What is MAP Pricing?
if you dont hang on a second my name is,heather roberts and we help home decor, and furniture companies grow their, online sales,so mac pricing is an acronym for minimum, advertised price, and it is used um in a couple of,different ways so if you look at a,pricing tier of one two and three you, have your wholesale price, thats the price that lets say wayfair,or overstock is going to um pay you for,the product that you sell then the next, level up is your math price or your, minimum advertised price and then the, final is your msrp or manufacturers, recommended uh,suggested price yeah manufacturers, suggested retail price there we go got,it got tongue tied so msrp um okay so,anyway so those are kind of what i call, those three pricing tiers, now why would you use map pricing,in the most basic term it actually, started on online you know, back a few years ago especially when, there was a lot of pricing discrepancy,in particular with amazon was a big, reason map came into existence, and it was a way to kind of level the, playing field so this is a way to make, sure that all internet retailers will, not, price your product on an everyday basis, below your mac price so in other words, amazon well they dont you know lets, say home depot home depot cant undercut, overstock by 200,right it also protects you with your own, brick and mortar accounts because in,this day and age almost every brick and, mortar store also has a website and, theyre going to put your products, probably on that website which they, should right its more exposure but you,can make them adhere to the same map, pricing like i said it just levels the, playing field and it doesnt hurt you, know the brick and mortar it doesnt, hurt your other internet accounts it,just kind of makes it a fair space, now you are allowed to break map its, called when things go on sale or on,their own promotion right,so when somethings on promotion then, you dont have to adhere the retailer, doesnt have to adhere to map pricing, some people still do um they may price,it even a little bit higher but for the, most part you know theyll theyll want,to break map and thats okay its just, because map is for your everyday price,if you choose to do it um you know some, companies do they believe its part of,their brand integrity and strategy um,because they feel that its theyve, theyve been burned in the past where, you know whether a brick and mortar, brick and mortar store or you know a,internet retailer has you know, played a little funky um with the, pricing and because there are such, sophisticated crawler algorithms those, are the algorithms that in my head i,picture at night go out among the world, wide web and try and find you know all,of the pricing for the items that are on,their site and where they are priced, other places everybody does this um its, like that interconnected web um but its, super common, and we want to make sure that you know, with map pricing thats a way to go oh,okay were gonna stay here everybodys, about the same price everybodys selling, the same thing so thats why you do it,thats what it is and um a lot of,companies feel it is super helpful um,others its not a big concern so it just,is kind of up to you and what your, company likes,if you have any questions about map, pricing how you structure it um theres,a link down here thats uh and you can, book a call wed love to get on the call, with someone from my team and chat with, you about map pricing and why you use it,the strategy behind it and how it can, help actually grow your sales if you, need to um so if you want to you can, just book a call or if youre watching, this on youtube,or at all just give it a like right that, really helps you can also subscribe to,our channel all right yall appreciate,it bye

You Need To Understand This About Minimum Advertised Prices (MAP)
what should you do if youre drop, shipping and one of your competitors is,violating the price policy thats a,question that just came in on a coaching, call i host every month for members of,dropship lifestyle and i gave the answer,to the member that asked it but i wanted,to get this episode out share exactly, what i do what i believe you should do,so if this comes up as you do business, which it definitely will if you work, with lots of different dropship, suppliers so that you know how to act,and how to basically get this problem to,go away so first of all what am i even, talking about when it comes to price, policies well the majority of the, suppliers that we work with at dropship, lifestyle and the majority of the, suppliers our students work with are, suppliers that enforce price controls, through something known as map map, stands for minimum advertised price and, basically what this is is you cannot, advertise this product for less than, this price so lets just say i was, selling this ipad mini here i dont know, what it costs lets say it was 500 bucks, maybe minimum advertised price is 500,that means the lowest i can list it on,my store for would be 500,if you sold it 500 would be the minimum, and so on and so on now these policies, are basically in effect to protect, manufacturers brands for example if i,started selling ipad minis became an,authorized retailer for apple and sold,it for a hundred dollars well then now, this is 100 product everybody buys it,from me and you know the value is just, gone so thats why they exist but thats, not what this episode is about lets, just take a realistic example for, something that meets our niche criteria, that you might possibly be selling, something like this stand-up desk that,im at right now and lets just say, minimum advertised price for this desk, was two thousand dollars and you, uploaded it to your store and you listed,it at two thousand dollars now lets say,a month goes by you receive an email, from a potential customer they say hey i,just saw this desk on competitor xyz.com,and they have it for only eighteen, hundred dollars can you match that price, well first of all i would say if the, margin is there i would just say yes but,the next thing i would do immediately is,go to that competitors website i would, take a screenshot of the page i would, even go to google shopping and search, for that product and find the competitor,if its listed there as well and take a,screenshot of their listing at the 1800,and i would send that right to my sales, rep at whatever manufacturer made this, desk now does that mean im telling on,people yes yes it does but its for a,reason okay these minimum advertised, price policies are there to protect the, actual brand theyre there to protect, the actual retailer and believe it or,not that includes you and your, competitors if everybody just sold for, whatever they wanted it would become a,race to the bottom and the person that, would be okay with making a two percent, profit margin would do that these, problems need to be cut off as soon as,they arise so contact your sales rep or,whoever your contact is at the specific, brand where the price policy is being, violated as soon as possible now im,going to say this because a few things, can happen from there it could be a,supplier that actually cares about their, price policy which most do if you find, suppliers the right way the way i teach,in dropship lifestyle then they should, reach out to that other competitor, youre not reaching out to them directly, this all goes through the supplier aka, brand they will have them update their, price they usually give them some type,of window maybe three days five days, maybe even only 24 hours and if they, dont update the price then what the, supplier should do is cut that company, off as a retailer basically not allow, them to sell their products anymore and, thats whats going to happen in the, majority of situations but you will find, sometimes you see this violation you let, your supplier know about it and then a,week goes by and the price still isnt, updated on the competitors website well, what do you do then i follow up with my,reps i recommend you do as well well, what if another week goes by and its, still not updated well then get serious, say hey listen were having people ask,us about this its been two weeks at,least already the price still hasnt, moved this is obviously a violation of,the minimum advertised price policy what, can we do about it give them another, chance to take it seriously if they, dont and theyre not willing to,actually enforce their own policies then, you have to make the decision of do you, want to stop running paid ads for, products from that brand do you want to,remove them from your website entirely i,dont recommend you go with the strategy,of just lowering your prices to match, theirs again the options if your, supplier just is not enforcing their own, policy as far as what i do,is either just cut them off completely,or stop spending money on paid ads for, those products rely on organic traffic, now this will give you a good sense of,how legitimate and how much your, suppliers actually care about your brand, when this comes up when you have to,report a supplier its not going to,happen every day but if youre in,business for the long term if youre, drop shipping it will happen so,hopefully this uh this episode gives you, some some insight into what i do and, what you can do as well with that being, said if youre watching this or,listening to this youre brand new you, want to know exactly how we build Minimum Advertised Price (MAP) Policy
I guess do today its Alex here with,Purefoy or dog company guys today to,talk to you and our dealers mainly about, our math policy so today Im going to go,over a couple things as far as math, policy one big thing for everyone who, doesnt know math policy stands for a,minimum advertised price this is the, price thats set forth by us to sell our, products at so when a dealer is selling,to the public at this price this is a,standard price that all of our dealers, are supposed to be selling when someone, undercuts this price it basically takes, business away from other people makes it,not fair and it makes it a lot harder, for other companies to sell product if,other people are undercutting the price, and selling it for cheaper so what weve, done is weve taken our Mack price and, basically we came out with a new math, pricing sheet after all of our new, features we have into the air dog line, with the new air dog to 4G motor the new,kit styles and weve released our new, math pricing policy so our new mat, pricing is all set and forth all the, prices that theyre supposed to be set,at so as far as myself being the math, person here at air dog what Im doing is,Im searching and tracking down people, who are violating that mat policy so one,big thing that Im starting to do now, that I have been doing for the past, couple months if youre in map violation,Im going to contact you once I contact, you you have 48 hours from that time of,contact to change your price if that, price has not changed within that 48,hour time span you will be placed on a,30 day do not sell this this do not sell, this is sent to all of our wholesale, distributors and our wholesale, distributors, distribute that information out through, their network of their dealers so no one,is to be selling to that company who, violates policy once theyre put on that,do not sell this their time span will, run for 30 days and once that 30 days is,up if theyre not in violation they will,be able to resell our airdog product if,they decide to violate again in the, future its automatic ban they will not,be able to sell air dog you will not be,able to sell product to anybody who is,on the banned list so first violation, you have a 48 hour warning period after, that 48 hour warning period if its not, changed youll be put on a 30 day hold, after that 30 day hold if you come off,of that we will still be checking we,check every morning here so every time, somebody changes a price online were, gonna see it so after that 30 day period,if youre back in violation again and, youve already been on our list once you, will go on a permanent do not sell this,to where you will no longer be able to,fire a product from us or our whole set,of sugars so thats one big thing I,wanted to talk to you guys about today, weve been dealing with mat violations, for a long time its something thats, inevitable people are gonna play the, system and try and make more money and, undercut other companies its part of,what people are doing these days its, very wrong of people to do and you know, were trying to take care of it so with, our set forth strict mat policy that, were going with now were gonna hope, that its going to turn things around a,little bit and make stuff a little bit, better for our dealers and make people a,lot happier to be able to sell our, product not have to worry about people,on or cutting them everybody has a fair, chance of selling airdog so mat policy, thats what we just covered this has, been in place for the past couple months, thats whats going to happen warning 30,days if youre violating again after 30,days youre gonna be put on lifetime ban, thanks guys for watching if you guys, have any questions you can email us or,call us three one seven four two one, three one eight zero and you guys have a,great rest of your day thanks
MAP PRICING: Minimum Advertised Pricing Policy Explained! | Dropshipping in 2022
what is map pricing and why is it,important if youve been wondering then,be sure to smash that like button, because im going to go over that, exactly that,in this video so in this video this is,going to be a group of videos that i go,over just different terms phrases, terminologies in the drop shipping and,e-commerce industry where i can then use, these videos to later use at the top of,other videos as im explaining things be,like hey if you dont know about map, pricing then check out my video up above,so thats the purpose of this video, subscribe if you havent already and, without further ado lets just get, straight into it so what is map pricing,it stands for minimum advertised pricing, itll be right under there and basically, what it is is the lowest price that you,can advertise that item for from that, manufacturer,on your website does every manufacturer, have map pricing no,do a lot of them yes if you have a,higher ticket manufacturer higher priced, items a lot of them do implement map, pricing but there really is no rhyme or,reason as to who does it and who doesnt,do it its really just if the, manufacturer wants to implement, map pricing so lets go into why would a,supplier or a manufacturer mainly a,manufacturer implement map pricing the, number one thing i got my little list, down here so im looking down,is to not devalue their items what, happens all the time especially on,amazon is pricing wars you know, somebodys undercutting the other person,by a penny going down down and down and,it really just leads to,barely making any money and just, devaluing the the whole entire item so,at that point in time oh now you know, the person the manufacturer is selling, these goods soon youre not even making, money and now nobody even wants to buy,the items from them or even sell the, items because now theres no,profitability so thats why first off a,lot of manufacturers dont want their, items sold on amazon if they do they, want to do it themselves but secondly, its just it devalues the item it,devalues their brand makes them look, cheap if they can implement a strategy, such as map where they say hey you cant, sell these this item for less than this, this item for less than this then, everybodys on the same page you know, and you dont have to worry about it you, dont have to worry about customers come, and say hey i got it for this price here, yeah yeah, doesnt matter thats what map pricing, why a lot of manufacturers really like,it because its going to not devalue, their product its going to keep their, brand you know to be just a trustworthy, brand and keep the quality there and a,lot of people say hey if youre, constantly running deals and discounts, and theres people selling it like a,huge discount rate then youre probably, not going to keep the brand integrity, there why is this important as a drop, shipper number one reason why its, important as a drop shipper is because, say you know sometimes people say oh i,dont like map or whatever because you, could get in trouble maybe youre, selling it on amazon and you broke map,and that company comes in like, hits you with some form of a complaint,or some sort of issue because you broke, map yes that could be an issue but say, youre on your shopify store why would, you want map pricing and its pretty, much the same reason as to why, manufacturers want map pricing its so,that you can keep your price consistent, and not have to worry about the, competition under cutting you non-stop,if you have to sell the item at one, thousand dollars then everybody else has,to sell it at one thousand dollars you,can go worry about other things you can, wear about your website you can worry, about trying to increase conversions you,can worry about your email marketing you,can spend time on a plethora of other, things relaxing who knows without having,to worry about oh well so and so you, know i sold this item five times last, month but now so and so undercut me by,fifty dollars and now you know im not, selling the item anymore now you gotta, worry about that thats its one less, equation or piece of the puzzle that you, dont have to worry about and i will pop,up examples right here of what map, pricing looks like so therell be a,little picture right here,of what map pricing looks like and as,you can tell, most if not all are at the same price, people in the on this listing can you go,above the listing yes but its minimum, advertised price which means that you, dont want to go below that price we got, that why do brands like it why do,sellers like it or why should they like,it so its going to be good for both, parties here and what happens if you, break it is it illegal i get this, question all the time is it illegal to,break map pricing or what happens so now,its not illegal if i like the laws in,the united states im going based off,the us here its not illegal to sell any, item at any price you could buy that, item for a thousand dollars and sell it,for 40.,i dont know why you would do it but you, know its theres no laws against it you, will not get legally in trouble unless, maybe you sign some form of contract and,in that contract it says that you will, get in trouble and when youre signing,up with these suppliers it will say you, need to follow the map policy but most, most of the contracts will say, that youre just going to get terminated, like theyre not going to sell to you, anymore so is it illegal no unless your, contract with your supplier says that, theyre gonna like take you to court or,something i havent seen one that says, that theyre mainly just gonna say hey, youll get like one warning two warnings, third warning youre done do i see, people that break map regularly yes ive, been on listings where home depots, breaking map if you see somebody, breaking map you know im not saying, they say snitches get stitches but im,im not against snitching in that type,of situation because if youre running, ads to your shopify store and somebodys, breaking map but youre following map, then youre just wasting money because, most likely somebodys just going to go,for your the other persons item because, theyre breaking map and theyre, undercutting do people do it yes i mean,is there times where theres mistakes, and oh maybe they changed the map price,or you were off by some amount or,something changed yeah thats fine they, usually will let you know hey the price,of this item is going up you know you,got you got two weeks to put it up to,this price or down to this, prices arent going down lets be honest,um,theyre going up and you know you have, two weeks to get to it and do it on time,is there honest mistakes that happen yes,but for the most part you shouldnt be,messing up they terminate their contract, with you sure big whoop well if thats, your best supplier then thats a big, issue if its not then its really not a,big issue but also again its your, reputation on the line here you dont, want you know to get bad reputation if,youre in a niched industry and maybe, one supplier you broke map with or you, caused a bunch of issues and ive had a,friend that i know for a fact you know, was just running this one supplier into, the ground on amazon they was getting,non-stop emails from them like youre, breaking map youre breaking map youre, breaking map,hes like screw you im gonna do,whatever and eventually they just like, terminated his account with it with them, say that his account was mainly based on,that niche or whatever and theyre going,to like trade shows then theyre gonna,be like wow this one dude really sucks, over here i wouldnt i wouldnt have a,contract with him hes a terrible person,to deal with is the likelihood high that, theres gonna be like talk or something, about what you do or anything like that, probably not but if youre in a more, very niche industry then there is a,possibility so what are ways to get, around map policy map pricing because i,know a lot of people also like to ask, that number one thing is its minimum, advertised price advertised thats what, has to be on your website it shows on,your website right there you can say hey, this w
Predictable Profits or Costly Trap? | MAP Pricing
most new sellers have never heard of map, pricing but it can be one of the best, things that a brand can implement for, their products now for you as an amazon, seller this can either be a,profitable opportunity or it can be a,costly trap,if youre not careful, whats going on guys marvin here welcome, back to another video like always make, sure to like comment share and subscribe,if you guys havent done so already also, make sure to turn on your post, notifications so you guys dont miss any,of my future videos and again, hit the like button if you guys do get, some value out of this video it doesnt, cost you very much and itll help, youtube jesus push this video a little, bit farther so lets get into, this video so before we get started you, have to understand, what map pricing is or a map policy or a,map, agreement and map simply stands for, minimum advertised, price it is the minimum price that a,brand has, implemented for its resellers when, selling a product so if a map, price is 20 you cannot go below that 20,because that is what the brand has set,for that specific product if you do sell, the product for below 20,like in this example then you are in,violation of the map, agreement or the map policy whatever you, signed with your supplier now this isnt, the same as,msrp so dont get the two confused msrp, stands for, manufacturers suggested retail price and,its pretty self-explanatory within the, name, its a suggested price that a,manufacturer has implemented, for all of its retailers to follow okay,so,if they have an msrp of 25,for example then that is the suggested, price that this brand has told all of,its retailers, they should sell it out its a its a,suggestion but if they also have,a minimum advertised price policy on,that same exact product of 20,then they cannot go below 20 suggested,25 they cannot go below 20. now who is,going to give you a map policy or a map, agreement well, your supplier obviously but it can come, from your brand directly if youre, working with a smaller brand that has a,map policy or a brand in general they, will give you a map, agreement that you will need to sign in,order to sell their products or you can,get it from a distributor, who is doing it on the behalf of the, brand so theyll just provide you with, the exact same paperwork,as the brand would provide you you need,to sign that and then give it back to,your distributor who will then give it,back to the brand that theyre working, with now there are many reasons why a,brand will want to implement a map, policy but some of the biggest reasons,is brand protection, and margins for its retailers brands, want their retailers to be able to make, money, obviously right because if theyre, making money then the brands making, money, and theyre going to continue to reorder, from the brand or from the supplier,in order to everybodys going to be,collectively making more money,by selling more and more products but if,you have a certain product that has a,map policy in place to protect those, margins for its retailers, but its just getting killed on price, constantly to the point where its,the margins are just razor thin or its,not even profitable anymore the chances,of the retailers reordering at the same, capacity or the same volume, isnt gonna be good so theyre gonna be,making less less money, and then the brands gonna be making, less less money so obviously thats, gonna be a bad, thing thats one of the big reasons why, they implement map policy, the other reason is for brand protection,if a product is going,up and down in price multiple times a,week if not multiple times a day,it just doesnt look good on the product, doesnt look good on the brand, and honestly just cheapens it in a way,so what does this mean for you as an,amazon seller and i know some of you, guys are already telling yourselves oh,map pricing sounds amazing, almost guaranteed profits because its,the its the price and nobody can go,below so if i sign this map agreement,im going to pretty much be guaranteeing,my profits to a degree, for the months and months that im going,to be having this product,in my inventory and in a perfect world, this would be the case you pretty much, know exactly how much youre making at,all times, for as long as you have that product and, inventory but the amazon fba platform is,not a perfect world, and if you sign a map agreement there is,something that i call the map, trap that you could fall into if youre, not careful which im going to tell you,how to avoid in this video so when it,comes to map pricing, some brands have a more difficult time, implementing and enforcing a map, policy on the amazon fba platform which,is a big, problem if youre signing a map, agreement and this could be for many, different reasons, maybe they have way too many, distribution channels so its harder for, them to really narrow down, where that leak is coming from which of,their suppliers is allowing this person,to break map and allowing them to,constantly be reordering the product so,they can continuously, break the map agreement or maybe they, just arent enforcing it they have the,map policy in place but they dont care,if anybody follows it,or maybe they just dont have any clue, how to implement and enforce, their map policies on the platform to,really narrow down, and get rid of all these people who, arent following this agreement and this,is a big problem because if you get in,contact with a supplier who has a map, policy in place, and requires you to sign it before you,can purchase any products, but nobody else on the platform is,following it then youre not going to be,making as much money as you thought, virtually that map policy becomes, irrelevant because no one,is following it now if you violate the,map policy in place, will the brand come after you i dont, know im not your lawyer, the best piece of advice i can give you,is if you dont plan on following it,dont sign it so what do you do what is,the solution, well this is where that 17 a month, subscription,to this software that nobody wants to,pay for comes in handy and saves the day, exhibit a if youre looking at a product, that has a map policy in place you need,to look at the data, first you need to look at that keep a,data go back as long as you want,at least a year if you can and see what, the keepa data shows you,is that by box staying steady is it,completely erratic if its a screenshot, like this, this is just an example but if its a,screenshot like this, and or if its keeper graph like this, and the data goes back, you know many many months or maybe even,a year if you can,and its 95 straight as an arrow most of,the time 95,of the time and chances are everybodys, following that map policy, okay its pretty evident that everybody,is following that map policy, and maybe if somebody dropped the price, and they got dealt with immediately, because thats what im saying 95 so,most of the time,if everybodys following it then this is,a great thing then yes, sign that map policy follow the map, policy make profits with everybody, selling alongside you, that has also signed that map policy, because this is a supplier who is,monitoring, enforcing and following the
