welcome to the whisky vault Rex hey Rex,do you have a you have an outro I will, adhere give me 45 40 I can happen lets, start drinking butter ready go,[Music],so by request from you c12 he said you,see 12 you see 12,hey guys yesterday I managed to mooch a,glass of angels in me off my grandfather, with his permission this time but unlike,my fathers Blantons and it was so good,i think its the first ones get tasted, that i prefer on the rocks instead of,with coke huh hes transitioning the, real Wizard of progress I looked through, depe soda cant seem to find one on it,would you mind reviewing it yes today is,the day of my friend but we dont have, rocks because Daniel is lazy I am lazy, and I dont want to have to go,downstairs we were just down stood but, were not going to pour angels in beyond, the rocks because this is too good is it,- guys this is this a special life ok so,heres the story Lincoln Henderson yeah,in his son Wes Anderson and before he,died his grandsons now all started this, company called Angels Indy Lincoln,Henderson used to work for brown-forman,Jack he was an inductee into the Hall of,Fame like inaugural inductee into the,Hall of bourbon Hall of Fame yeah or,distillers all of it and one of those my,mind just went blank on which one it was, anyway a whole bad thing theres name, involved here is always shades but hes, responsible for doping Woodford Reserve,Jack Daniels select Jack Daniels single,or gentlemen Jack and single-barrel,yeah hes a badass ok he died recently,we toasted him on one of our my god, banned for the damn with we toasted in,his honor, now heres the cool thing his son Wes,Henderson is now the head dude in angels,Indy came out and poured us Angels Envy, for our first ever which keeps them all,a classicist this is a bourbon this is a,bourbon finished in port wine barrels is,that special for birds special for, bourbon because normally only Scotch, does things like that yeah so Lincoln, and Wentz together decided lets source, these whiskies will pick the mash Phil, will follow them will age them as needed, and then well move them into put hand, selected pork barrels and, finish them for I think it was four to,eight months in port barrels after five,to eight years and original girl Im,getting on the more smoothed out, sweetness adverse to get a bourbon, sweetness theres a little bit of a port, kind of nose to that though do you I,would guess more of an almond II kind of,note Oh Mandi yeah think of it like a,tawny port instead of a ruby port, theres nothing wrong with that I really, like I really well you can see why they, charge eighty to a hundred dollars a,bottle for this mmm-hmm so am i tasting,it mmm yes so you see you have you have,high-end taste, turns out no well Im also Bobby Mac,requested this too sure whats going on,in here, theres its not the so many good things, its not just the the stereotypical, bourbon,it is a bourbon but theres more going,on there they feel its because that all,be coming from this port wine yeah it,might be I get blueberries for some, reason could that yeah theres always, this all the port its all for yeah its,all the fourth right more more bourbon, should be doing this absolutely I know, well guess were going to do do we have, access to port wine girls were going to,make them, sure yeah were doing what you do,because you just decide to do that, without any government approval yeah I,get you know what I get here this is a,really weird something just popped into,my head honey and youre going to,crucify me for this one or the Reveres, that I get blueberry pop-tarts ah you it,just popped into my eyes you know its, been $80 for blueberries oh no its, better than that this is popped into my,head is honey Gala apples my brain keeps, one me say vanilla but if I think about,it like now that would just be like the,Oh berries and cream berries berries in,green berries and cream yeah I was, trying to land on what it is so at one,of my restaurants like dig they serve, just an old English style you know, double cream and berries getting a,little cinnamon in there too its really, nice so its a mixture of different, kinds of berry notes yeah the the honey,is very strong yeah honey berries and, cream pie little tiny not heavy on the, barrels, hide a little bit of soo-min on there, you, its not overwhelming overwhelmingly, port but it feels like its given a,really nice amount of accent flavors, theyre sort of hanging to the back end,of that yeah I think thats a little bit,of the wood tannins but its so mild yep, this is I think they left it in with, that port like exactly the amount of,time they needed to for it to be perfect, speed wreck take two is redirect for the, blames video the buttons said take two, ounces of Blantons and add two ounces,of Bulleit rye 95% MGP rye and you have, heaven alright are we doing this yeah, were doing this,Judas beautiful thank you speed right,so basically sing a two to one ring Im,thanking him before we even tasted it,because Im like anaphora for for,Yamazaki ah but he said hes taking away, some of your thanks he said two to one, right no I said two ounces the two, ounces 1 2 1 o 1 2 1 2 ounces of blends, and two ounces of bullet rec all right, thats easy alright so for bullet dry, going in were going for 4 ounces now, were not were just going to equal, amounts all right bullet right in the, glass Blantons pouring it in with, bullet ride you know speed racks request,I have a feeling Im gonna like this one,no effort let you have a member richs, ally after I let you have a sip I need, all the help I can get so dude that, smells really good and that whiskey will,be mine yeah its gonna enjoy that ship, well you can mmm because now this is,mine oh its kind of mapley though oh,wait wait wait as it lingers it gets, sweeter and sweeter and sweeter ooh it,does well I was weird it evolves it very,my first nip it kind of went flowered, and spicy and I thought it wonderful and, then as it lingered I get sweeter and, sweeter for me it got more and more ride, yeah like everything faded away but the, rest now it clings ok so heres the, thing I love boy it tasted when I first, stepped it I love you fella but not, liking the Africa I love the first 51%,yeah and then look the back end is not,bad but I am NOT a hardcore reigai yeah,I still am holding out hope though, okay heres a witch so we really try, another run we recently did a video of,the Crown Royal Northern harvest right, you got the whiskey of the wit best in,the world is some big deal its all in,the comments there are people saying, look no no your Trent youre trying the, wrong Crown Royal Ryan oh my gosh, theres a hell one theres still help, for me we were trying to round one like,no we labeled the video wrong and I,tried the best thing in the world for a,Crown Royal and but lets compare it to,this this blends in right thing we just, did yeah yeah I got to get back down, again yeah theres a lot of mooching and, then no there was this for science to be,thorough, what do you Im getting my angels anyway,we didnt have to take that oh thats, what all new just say by the way we,discovered the mooch call and the mooch, kryptonite just an unattended whiskey, and we will come running, unbounded devious ask how do you make, holy water damn it did you really mean, you really did yes I did Ben I was, trying to get rekt to read a dad joke, and I almost succeeded he realized what,is happening halfway through haha,no I youre claiming the comment heres, the thing I saw this holy water its, like its just some kind of proprietary, tasting water to mix with whiskeys it,does a special thing oh this is what, happens when you dont print your own, comments is you got to read this stuff, and welcome to my [ __ ] list undone oh,geez how do I totally water you boil the, hell out of it ah my people theres your,Crown Royal riot compare it to what are, mixed lips yeah yeah yeah okay, unbalanced has a bigger sweetness not, unbound but yeah no no no it is the, speed rice P rec fever I had up its a,bigger sweetness theres more flavors, going on I still like it better than, thi

all right weve got welcome to the, whisky vault by the way yes, welcome to the whisky vault I am Rex Im,Daniel,he is a level 3 whisky somolia hes the, master mooch and were finally caving, the pressure yes we are selling out, specifically selling out to a one-carbon,price,[Music],Karson price this is your damn day now,Im all punchy so Carson this guy is he,has the persistence of pitbull he does, how many videos that wouldnt you start, watching it was like a hundred episodes, again everything for 500 straight, episode hahaha, what theyll fail hes been in the, comments this is simple its a simple, comment angels in vitro effect oh yeah, then he drops the mic and walks away and, theyre all the new people the way this, usually works is you donate a whiskey it,gets bumped up to the top of the list we,got a bunch of donations but it makes it,more it makes it faster for us to get to,it the requests in the comments will, eventually get to you can this guy has, been so doggedly persistent I know we,just cant to give it to him you ever, just gave up like guys to give up no,just gave up but at the same time its, angels Envy yes so its not its not a,tremendous sacrifice yeah its not a dog, fight or anything so this is a right I,could drink all day you know even not, being a rye fan because my god the,Caribbean rum they finished this 18,months in Caribbean rum yeah, this is the Henderson family remember, got Lincoln Henderson and his son West, founded this now Wests sons are, involved and all theyre doing is taking, really classic bourbon and rye and they, are finishing it in other things so oh,this is super unique coffee this is,super unique this is the black liquor, licorice nut you usually get as the, dominant note and right now its not, there its buried not there its buried, and which is actually exactly why I love,it,good black licorice yeah so this brings,me into like almost half a dozen rise, that Im excited about my concern is,theres so much other stuff going on,here I dont know if this is like a,straight-up,rye I mean this feels no its not so if,you wanted to introduce someone to a,classic ride angels in me is a classic, ride its a unicorn okay and its not, hard to fall in love with unicorns there, are amazing magical creatures Im,excited that I found another right that,Im like but this is actually making me,a bit more excited for Rome because I,absolutely tell all the stuff thats not, very poor g-ronn zacapa no hmm Im gonna, its awesome, well go to the rum bolt we have a rogue, vault so I get all the Maypole I get all,the sugar I get all the cinnamon but the,run those entering all of the, interesting other stuff cinnamon and, maple and this is a dark rum cask I,would guess this is not your you know,Bacardi white man right this is theres, some type of like rounded off ripe fruit,in that rum in there hmm thats really, nice okay now the Bourbon I feel is in a,similar category so they specialize in,doing whiskeys and unique casks yes so,theyll age them in normal new oak for, like all legal requirements for Ryan, bourbon yeah and then they will finish, them in other casks so the rum cask, finish they said is 18 months for the, ride for the Bourbon they say its, around 8 to 12 barrels at a time for, around six months mm-hmm and they blend, them together afterwards that is,simultaneously complex and its not,Barty just wood Im about Im about to,get that spike that I would typically, get from any average bourbon it just, rounds up thats exactly what it is yeah,so for me bourbon always starts sweet, and then ends with a barrel punch yeah, and thats why Im not Im having a hard, time getting in love with it but this, one starts sweet and friendly and then, has complexity but its all around and, never arise in that hmm new oak, punch really nice so its not mean so,its definitely bourbon right, its definitely legally yes its deadly, bourbon but you cant find another, bourbon on our entire shelf that will, give you that oh thats not true,Bell need so bourbon recently started, finishing and the other one in the, trifecta because I remember angels envy, being seemingly more bourbon yes hints,of classicness but more nuanced and, complex yes are you ready yeah treat, yeah Im being treated Oh wouldnt box,and everything the angels in the cask, strength oh okay all right, have I had now this is a port no I have, not had this is 64% alcohol is this the, most typical Angels envy of this bourbon, here yes Id like to go to thats the, standard okay why did I remember that, being more classic this is the 2015,bottling right, this is batch number c4 bottle number, six nine four nine sixty three point, nine five percent alcohol hmm thats up,there with George stag yeah I dont, remember this one at all its open so,obviously I tried it when I bought it,but I have no memory of that its so,potent she tried that much and it just, annihilated all memory I passed out, right yeah instantly first sip well you, know the nose is not as vibrant not as,well why is that not what you would, expect from cask strength and Im not, even getting the alcohol bite in the, nose that I would expect mmm yeah mmm, does that worry shows that mmm you know, your hair makes you look like a mad, scientist right now thats white or just, mad this is really potent and rich, almost syrupy almost servo rich nah, thats ditz yeah I mean that is,this is absolutely the best way to,describe that yep its the first angels, gonna be sort of spread out with little, nuance and friendly concentrated yeah, this one is a like vanilla concentrate, right whoa yes waters the dashboard and, then Ill drop a cube of ice in there, just a dash first and well see what, happens,oh there it is,now it gets a little bitey in complex, and bourbon II yeah it needed just a,dash of water to come alive and start to,pick a fight and it does you know it,comes out swinging yeah it does whoo of,these you know what the surprise for me,is that damn Roy Gainesville the angels, and meek Caribbean rum cask yeah that, was a shocker strangely enough I,hesitate to say this on camera, nobody well thats my preferred whiskey,of the three theres this thats I think,I prefer the Rye thats okay Im just, saying red-letter day here that is a big, moment for me,Daniels all grown up you can drink rye,now Peter missing chicory is that blue, flower we yes you see on the side of the, road in Michigan Michigan thank you,you can roast it like coffee they use it,in this they used it in the Civil War as,a replacement for coffee,it is great tasting yes and actually if,you buy the chicory coffee from coffee, them on in New Orleans now its a mix of,chicory and coffee beans now Im not, surprised that this is so empty this is,so good because Im so damn good I know,Paul Darnell so glad to have you -,youre the Gandalf of my whiskey quest,Im trying to experience a special thing, hes not talking to me with that comment,Ive tried to experience a scotch with, salt brine and seaweed kelp taste oh so,many things anything that youd, recommend yes if you want to go classic, start with Obon and then try talisker, and then try buna hoppin and, then theyre really serious get the,Ardbeg dark Cove,it will change your life forever yeah, man so many good options youre gonna, like all those okay Grif sickened dick,as a Colorado native what that really is,is hey dont make fun of the name it,could be a real name hes been made fun,of his whole life yeah youre being rude,to the media weve already lost some, people cuz Rex was so rude and they had, feelings all these feel theyre very, offended and that kept me up at night, yeah but I didnt laugh that at all as a,Colorado native I have to say that Casa,Bonita is absolutely the worst excuse, for Mexican kid what the hell Im,looking out for you here hello, yes thats because youre a man of,distinction now he may not even watch, this video because that was a video from, like three months ago commented on that, said everyone should go there and, experience it what once now but black,Barts cave does not hold up to your, childhood memories Im telling you it,does not hold that why how old

ANGELS ENVY Bourbon Review
this is a whisky im very excited about, try not to get jealous because this week,im reviewing angels envy,[Music],[Applause],[Music],welcome back to the channel my name is,matt im a whiskey nerd and this week,im reviewing angels envy so let me get, this into the glass and ill tell you a,little bit more about it now angels, envy is not a new whiskey but it is a,relatively new whiskey it was founded by,lincoln henderson a man who is no,stranger to the bourbon industry lincoln, henderson is kind of the brainchild hes,the master distiller behind things like, woodford reserve or some of the more, kind of eclectic special editions from, jack daniels such as the gentleman jack, and lincoln was joined in this endeavor,of starting this new distillery by his,son wes and lately by their grandson, nate so this is clearly a family that, knows its way around whiskey and, apparently they had this idea for angels, envy for quite some time now what makes, angels envy so special well it is a,bourbon but its not legally a bourbon, anymore because of what theyve done, because bourbon has all these rules that, what it can and cannot be theres, actually quite a limited variety of,flavors you can get in a bourbon and so,in order to make a kind of a new or,distinct whisky what the guys over at,angels envy did was they finished a,bourbon in port casks to kind of bring,in some extra fruitiness some richness, maybe some cocoa notes maybe some maybe, some nuttiness as well into the flavor, profile because otherwise youre kind of,more limited in what you can do with the, bourbon than you are compared to like, say scottish or irish whiskies and i for,one im pretty excited about this whisky, because i do like bourbons but i do find, that sometimes they can kind of taste, very similar like theres a narrow, enough window in which bourbons can kind,of take different flavor profiles so the, introduction of a new cast will, definitely add some different flavors, and definitely when its a port cast, because i really do like a port cast, finished whiskey in fact one of my,favorite whiskies at the moment is the, dingle single malt batch six which spent, its entire life in port casks giving it,this really nice rich dense juicy berry, taste so im hoping some of those berry, notes come through into this whiskey now,as to what goes into the whiskey let me,give you a quick little rundown now i,would imagine most of this whiskey is,sourced maybe from multiple distilleries,in kentucky i have seen some reports, that say the core of the whiskey is,sourced spears and that would indicate,to me that maybe theres some of this, whiskey in there in the blend is from, their own distillery that they are, making and maybe they are moving away, from the source, whiskey into their own distilled spirits, but i havent really been able to find, any literature about that or any reports,of them saying that they are moving to,their own spirit if you know for, yourself let me know in the comments, below because id love to find out more, about this distillery but they do tell,us about the mash bill this is 72 corn,18 rye and 10,malted barley so it should be leaning, into that sweet rich corn note with a,bit of the barley spiciness and then, some of the kind of malty biscuity, caramel notes rounding it out from that, inclusion it also comes in at 43.3,so its not as high as maybe normal, american bourbons are coming in at 45,percent but its not down at 40 so it,should carry some decent flavor and, lastly its a blend of whiskeys between, four and six years old that was then, finished in port casks for up to six, months so there should be plenty flavors,so its time we go in for the nose,oh wow that is,different so,okay, its recognizably bourbon of course, youre gonna get that, kind of classic bourbon nose going to,get, vanilla a bit of oak, some of those oak spices are coming, through,a bit of caramel as well maybe some, maple syrup, but then underneath all that theres, this nice kind of,light fruitiness its not really a heavy, fruitiness but,it does lean in maybe almost towards, like an apple like a kind of a like a,not like a granny smith apple not like a,soft red apple somewhere in the middle, maybe like a like a braeburn or like a,gala apple something like that,im also getting a little bit of,nuttiness so,for me on a bourbon a pretty common note,is peanuts that kind of peanut oil, peanut brittle, that kind of note,im getting that here but maybe its not, exactly a peanut its, maybe heading, somewhere towards an almond, maybe a wall its just a slightly not, exactly peanut as theyve been softened,a little bit and i do like that, for me a poor cask finish often gives, this nice kind of dark deep kind of dark, cocoa note to a whiskey but,im not really getting that here, maybe a little bit but its maybe being, covered over by those oak spices,so maybe thats gonna be more apparent,in the palette so its about time i go,in for the palette, thats nice its definitely a little bit, softer, maybe than, normal bourbons like normal bourbons you,get this kind of caramel vanilla, sweet punch up front and then it takes a,second and then you get the oak spice, that kind of comes in right after, this is a little bit more kind of,smoothed out like you get sweetness up,front but then you get this kind of,fruitiness in the mid palate and at the,end of the palette you do get that oak,so its not this up down up its more, like it up and then fades into that, spiciness so it is quite, smooth there i think that poor cast, definitely does fill in a gap that i,often find in bourbons definitely, getting more of those apple notes and, maybe maybe a hint of orange so im,going to go in for a second sip and see, what else i can find, okay yeah, definitely some apples, definitely a little bit of tangerine, orange coming in towards the end,and then when the fruitiness fades off i,will get into the finish in a minute but,i do get this nice kind of oak barrel, spice but cinnamon, not really clove or nutmeg more of that, cinnamon inside there isnt a huge port, influence coming off this whiskey now i,do appreciate that it is small batches,so this is bottle number,9523 on batch number nine of why, whatever that is but theres not a huge, port influence on this i do like that, they go in for those small batches they,go in with those nice kind of lighter, and approaches to kind of make sure that, each batch does have a good flavor to it,but the port influence isnt, overpowering like this is still, definitely a bourbon even though it,might technically not be legally called, bourbon its still recognizably a,bourbon it still has all those hallmark, flavors of a bourbon without being like, overpowered by the porch i think thats,a good mix and with that being the case,i think its time i go in for the finish, and see how this performs as all those, notes fade away, okay,on the finish,im definitely getting that fruitiness, fades away quite quickly, leaves you with that nice kind of tingly, oak spice but then underneath that oak, spice im getting a kind of a berry note, its not like the cherry the blackberry, those dark rich red fruits that i,normally associate with a port, its almost lighter its maybe like a,blueberry you know that kind of like it,has a bit of tang its definitely a,berry but its definitely on the lighter, side and i think thats where that, portion was coming in its giving me,that lighter fruity note that you dont, generally get in a bourbon, and then thats competing quite well, with the oak spice as the rest fades, away, and then kind of just a general, lingering sweetness its quite a clean, finish its not overly dominated one way,or the other its got this nice bit of,berriness, its got this nice bit of oak its got, this bit of sweetness underneath, everything but its not dominated one,way or the other i think thats quite, nice its quite enjoyable it does only, come in at 43.3 percent alcohol so i,wouldnt expect it to have this huge, showstopper of the finish its just a,nice clean enjoyable finish this is a,whiskey that i was quite excited to try, because i can get it in ireland but

Which One is THE BEST Beginner Bourbon? | BLIND COMPARISON Basil Hayden vs Angels Envy REVIEW
welcome to stuff and whiskey im josh, and im aaron and we just did a totally, blind head-to-head between these two, easy sippers basil hayden and angels, envy stay tuned to hear what we think, when all potential bias from the label,is removed,[Music],welcome to the channel bringing a real, world perspective to the real world, whiskey consumer were not professional, whiskey tasters were regular people, just like you but what we will do is we,will randomly select one of these match, ups from our double blind pool well, taste them well give you our completely, honest opinions on them we wont know, whats in either of our glasses but you, will and youll be able to see that, information in the description below, youll see us discuss the things that, matter to us in whiskey the taste the, price and the availability and whether, wed buy it again or not in the end, well give each of these pours a real, world score and that is entirely, informed by what we find out in our, double blind tasting all right lets do,our random selection okay we got to see, what were drinking tonight which pair,so weve got 18 pairs of our sample pool, out, six six so,five is in the middle six six okay cool, were gonna get these poured well be,right back with our first impressions on,glass one,[Music],lets get into the glass one,oh,super fruity sweet on the nose i get, stinky feet im sure youre not smelling, muscle ive been getting stinky feet a,lot lately maybe youve been on sneaky, people maybe its you or me maybe i have,to keep yeah and thats what im,smelling better hygiene is maybe, necessary, just kidding yeah a lot a lot of fruity, sweetness on this not much else, what does it taste like, its pretty sharp its sharp its good, its like, basic its very basic, yeah theres not a lot going on it,really falls off on the back end,it says in our first pour of the day, this is,interesting i dont know it has like a,asian food, like, theres something im getting, when i swallow, its like a soy flavor i think,i can kind of see what youre getting, there im getting kind of like a,graininess, its its pretty bland yeah its not,bad or necessarily off-putting,but i wouldnt call it good either, yeah yeah yeah its like fine its, pretty standard just kind of general, sweetness it kind of dies off i dont, know if id say it has much sweetness, yeah the sweetness is coming down but, what what youre getting there is like, sweet, alcohol, yeah yeah all right lets get in the, glass too all right, that has more sweet smell more sweetness, more richness no stinky feet im getting, like that banana laffy taffy i actually, got that yeah yeah i beat you to say in,it you beat me to saying it but i smell,it for the first time probably ever, thats more syrupy sweetness and more of,a banana sweetness, well,i really hit home with someone to think,of a banana laffy taffy or a run not, just like an actual banana, man this one just dies too yeah like, theres a better nose on it better no,but on the palate its very just, mellow, and, theres just not a lot going on there,id say theres more going on,but still not alive i dont know, this is like sweet alcohol and this is,just, like, really, mellow alcohol its a little tingly for,me yeah a little bit okay itll be itll,be interesting to spend some time with, both of these going back and forth, clearing out our palettes in between, starting with the second glass going, back to the first class, youve seen our first impressions were, going to give these their proper due and, well be right back with our results,[Music],all right after spending some time with, these what do you think lets start with, glass one all right so glass one on the, nose got just okay it was just okay,uh also on the flavor just okay,it was just okay, and experience it was just okay all, right last ones really blowing out of,the water we see pretty just okay class, one for me on the nose just okay i put, caramel corn sweetness thats about all,i got on the nose very simplistic not a,lot going on there, for the flavor i gave it a thumbs down,it was just,it was sweet alcohol graininess theres, just not a lot,of flavor there its just not very good,to me,and then on these tell me how you really, feel from the experience i gave it a,thumbs down,i oh my gosh this is like the worst, score in joshs this is the worst score, that ive given its flat thin and, bitter on the experience and its its,not good,i didnt like it lets go on to glass, too its fair where are you at on glass, too okay so for glass two,i gave it a thumbs up on nose uh it was, weird because i smelled like the runts, the banana runs or the banana laffy, taffy and then i went back and it kind,of had like a bacony smell i can get, that yeah like it it like morphed it was, very weird and i kind of loved it so i,gave it a thumbs up on the nose,um it got just okay on flavor because it,like,it left me as soon as i swallowed it,yeah um but it was fine and then but the, overall experience i gave it a thumbs up,because i liked the kind of the morphing,of the smells okay okay cool glass two,for me i gave it a thumbs up on the nose,i said it had a pleasant banana, sweetness it was very pleasant and there,is like an underlying, little bit of richness there kind of,like neediness or smokiness or something, theres something to me its more of,like a caramel like a mapley sweetness, yeah yeah but i can see how like a maple, bacon yeah kind of,thats going on in the nose so thumbs up,on the nose for me,flavors, just okay,i said that that pleasant banana, sweetness carried over but theres like,a sour note there that hits me that i,dont like so if that sour note wasnt, there and it just stayed sweet then i,would probably give it a thumbs up but,to me just okay on flavor experience i,gave it a thumbs down,it was flat thin and it had this drying, finish on it that i just did not like i,know the nose was good you didnt give a,decent experience look i dont like, either one of these okay i mean, obviously i dont like either one of,these i like the second glass more the, nose on the second glass is the best, thing thats happened in either of these, glasses tonight thats true ill agree, with you otherwise like i couldnt care, less if i ever see one of these again, wow i just dont like them i just dont, like them, this is like, these are the worst, like breaking news josh this is a very, rare time like experience i like it i,like whiskey i just dont like these too, okay very much at all thats fair i,guess we should find out what these are, yeah its time lets do a reveal lets, find out,[Music],glass one is number eleven and glass two,is number 10. okay so lets talk price, first yeah were going to find the price, out before we find out what they are and, react to that completely blind first so,theyre pretty comparable on price so,price so glass 11 11 about 40,are you serious and 10 is 45,ouch so,comparable on price but not super cheap, either no,like not expensive i would not i would, not pay that for either one of these,i dont like that price on either one of,these, all right do you want to find out what, they have to hit the button lets find, out glasses one, basil haydens, okay, and, glass two is angels envy wow,you like angels envy usually right um i,mean we did that smoothest bourbon as,kind of like a fun thing and also it is,smooth it is smooth and it doesnt have,a lot of flavor it is pleasant that you, know this makes sense now that little, bit of the drying finish i got yeah i,wouldnt have guessed these were these, yeah but that little bit of drying, finish i got is kind of characteristic,of finished bourbons and angels envy is,a finished bourbon in a port wine, barrel,so,that drying note makes sense flat and, thin checks out, yeah well the banana sweetness is weird, theyre pretty low proof though basil, haydens is 80 proof and angels envy is,86.6 proof so theyre pretty low in the, proof point which, makes sense as to why the finish, probably is just like bye yeah theyre, both super low proof these are both, super approachable i mean i put flat and, thin Angels Envy Port Wine Finish Review | The Whiskey Dictionary
today we talk about heavenly bourbon, angels, and,[Music],angels and, angels and all right get it relax,[Applause],my,everybody and welcome to the whiskey, dictionary where i do the research i,teach you a little something about what, youre drinking, tonight were going to be talking about, one of my most requested bourbons, basically ever on this channel this is,the angels envy kentucky straight, bourbon port wine finish, now this was an innovative whiskey and, still is but this was an innovative, whisky because at the time,at least to my knowledge nobody else was, finishing bourbons, and specifically in port wine instead of,something like sherry which is way more, popular up in scotland,it was a little surprising to to read, about that but in august 19th,2010 lincoln west and kyle henderson all, poured their first whiskey, into a port ruby port barrel and thus, was born angels envy, now the name lincoln henderson might, sound familiar to you if it does, great for you if it does not no big deal,he was the master distiller at brown, foreman for about 40 years, and we owe gentleman jack and woodford, freaking reserve,to this guy so thats pretty awesome i,mean woodford reserve right i have, recommended that to so many people it,was one of the first bourbons i ever, loved, and its just very meaningful to me and,im,psyched that that guy made it so good, job lincoln i know that you passed away,a few years ago but im still, appreciating it so,to your family good job anyway,in march of 2011 angels envy released, their first product which was this, and its been doing great ever since, its always got great marks even this, little tag here says 98 points right so,this thing is always at the top of the, charts but,for a number of years theyve been, producing this after about a year they, started making the cast strength, and that was one that lincoln always, said that he really looked forward to,because he was able to kind of be a,little bit more choosy, and really make something that he,absolutely wanted to dial in the flavor,of and i just think thats great i have, not personally tried the cast strings or,the rye which ill talk about in a sec,but it just i cant wait to right its i,mean this is so good,im im a big fan already anyway,in 2013 they ended up winning best, whiskey by i think it was spirits, magazine, for this guy and they also broke ground,on their own distillery clearly they, knew that they were going somewhere,in 2016 they opened the new distillery, and they started making all of their own,uh whiskey now i failed to mention, earlier so obviously with a years time, frame in between, pouring that first whiskey into the, barrel and releasing their product, thats not enough time to make a,kentucky straight bourbon,so they ended up having a source from, other kentucky distilleries which,no big deal you know obviously they took, what they knew and then they, adjusted it with the port ruby ruby port, finish,so you know no harm no foul and now they, make their own stuff,so everything is great anyway it was not, from mgp it was from other kentucky, distilleries,so while i was doing my research i came, across this quote from wes henderson, that i really liked because i found that,it kind of,it really exemplified the idea of,somebody being both a businessman, and somebody who really appreciates the, craft so i just want to read this to you, real quick, wes says i think that at the very, beginning i personally wanted to find a,port that was a little more on the, exotic side or very rare, something with sizzle at the end of the,day however from the taste profile, standpoint, the ruby port barrels we chose worked, for our needs better than any of the, others, one of the exciting things about the, experimentation is that we were able to,try a number of different, port barrels and varieties now i love, that because if you kind of read between, the lines essentially what hes saying,he wanted something crazy and he,probably tasted something crazy, but it wasnt in the volume that they, were going to need so instead he went, with, the regular you know ruby port and that, was a good call because, again this is delicious so speaking of,which lets talk about this whiskey, now angels envy is clearly a play on,the term, angels share now the angels share for, those that dont know,i am the whiskey dictionary after all, right angel share,is a reference to how much whiskey, evaporates out of a barrel every year, now in some places like scotland or,ireland it can be as low as two percent,of the,of the volume of the barrel but in,places like india can be as high as 12,percent,so in the case of angels envy it was, only about 5 so the joke is essentially, that theyre getting a better deal, than the angels this time so theyre, envious but, this it has a mash bill of 72 percent, corn 18,rye and 10 malted barley it is 43.3,abv and it is actually one of the few, that i would say is calling themselves a,small batch, but not on the bottle but they still, refer to themselves as a small batch, and actually deserve it because their, barrels theyre going through about 8 to,12 barrels, for every batch which is small enough in,my mind to really qualify for that now, small batch doesnt really have a formal, definition more of an understood thing, but if you look at something like knob, creek they refer to themselves as small, batch but theyre doing like 100 barrels,at a time if not even more,so its it varies but this is typically, aged about six years,it is no age statement but its between, four and six years theyre more trying,to match up flavor profile than they are, necessarily a number,um additionally uh this is,finished for three to six months in 59,gallon ruby port,uh barrels sorry um,made of french oak and imported from, portugal all right so anyway one last, thing i want to show you before i kind,of get into tasting this,so and ill do a close-up here on the, cork there is a 10-10,now it took me a little bit to even, notice this is it says expression1010,what that means is a reference to the, date that they were originally supposed,to,release this it was supposed to go out,in october of 2010.,however lincoln didnt feel it was ready,so they let it sit for another six, months, and i thought that was interesting that, they leave it on here you know 11 years, later at this point which,is very cool so if youve ever wondered, what thats about thats what it is,all right lets go ahead and get into, the nosing and the tasting of this, delicious whiskey, all right so its been a little while, since ive reviewed not only a whiskey, but a bourbon, and im quickly reminded of the fact, that most bourbons have a lot of the, same notes so some of those classic, burpin notes are going to be,oak vanilla caramel butterscotch things, like that, now in this specifically im finding, vanilla, and i am also finding,a little bit of oak a little little, barrel um but, raisins is high up there for me as well, its kind of this dried fruit, nose that youre getting maple syrup, and and part of that is at least for me,it must be from the very high corn, right so its going to be very sweet but, mixing with typical bourbon notes, and such a high corn content youre, going to get a sweet kind of,maple syrupy smell, now there was one more thing in here and,you know ive mentioned to you guys, before i take a lot of notes before i do,my videos just because i dont want to,come on here and kind of bumble through, the the notes, but i usually do end up kind of doing, some ad hoc as well, now this is one that i actually didnt, write down but im getting right now,and it took me a second here its part,of the reason im kind of kind of,working through this right,it its like its like dusty peanuts,or possibly toasted macadamia nuts,i realize those two things smell very, different but its its still, like a subjective smell thing so im,trying to work out between the two,im going to lean towards toasted, macadamia nuts because i just think that, thats,i think thats what im getting its, reminding me of i i literally used to,toast macadamia nuts we went on a trip,to hawaii when i was,re
