A Simple Book Notes Template (for Notion)!

READING JOURNAL SETUP ON THE IPAD | book reviews, reading tracker, and TBR lists | Flourish Planner

[Music],hey guys and welcome back to the, flourish planner youtube channel thank, you so much for tuning in to this video,im super excited about this video, because today we are going to be talking, about books which has become one of my,favorite topics, and specifically we are going to be,revamping the reading journal and, planner that i have on my shop i,started filling it out whenever i,launched it and then i slowly trailed, off and since then ive read quite a few, books and just havent logged them and i,thought that i would share with you the, process of doing that but first i wanted,to share with you guys some of my,favorite books i also wanted to share, with you the current reads that i am,currently reading as well as some of the, ways that i consume my book so that im,able to read even more so if youre, interested in any of those topics just, keep on watching,[Music],so,[Music],first of all i just want to say i read, mostly as,just a,escape a,pleasurable activity, you know they may not be the most, educational, books in the world, but,i enjoy them so,thats that the first, books that ive read this year was the, throne of glass series by sarah j maas, and by the way i get all my book, recommendations on tick tock so,i read this whole series, absolutely loved it and i am in the, midst of reading her, second series right now im on the, second book and it is,everything i also have been really into,rom-coms um,the um honeymooners i dont know how i,how do i organize this video, how do is this very haphazard,im just gonna talk im just gonna do it,i mean whatever,i also read honey girl by morgan rogers,my friend sierra sent me this hating, game,i dont know about this one the ending,it didnt do it for me,another book series ive really been, enjoying which i never thought that i,would like, but it is heart stopper and the reason, why i didnt think id like this is,because it is a graphic novel so it,reads like a comic oh two other books, ive read, are by colleen hoover, and i read ugly love, and all your perfects which, dont even get me started on this cover,i dont understand why people put people,on the cover,so the three books im reading right now,are a court of mist and fury which is,the second book in that series i was, telling you about by sarah j maas,so good so far,my non-fiction book that im reading, right now is sapiens which this is,really really fascinating im reading, this very very slowly,um like a couple pages at a time because, its very dense, and then i havent started this yet but,i am going to be reading the third, volume in the heart stopper series by,alice oseman, this these books just give me serotonin, like these are just its just a feel, good book,i just really love it,so before i get into setting up my,reading journal for the rest of the year,i,wanted to share with you guys some of,the ways that i am some of the ways some,of the things that i use to read and, read more so the first way is obviously, just physical books i love reading,a physical book of course love stacking,up books on my shelves and having it,there,i dont know if that is like,i dont know if the stacking the books,on the shelf thing is like a,ego thing of like i just want to look at,all of the books that ive read but i do,i also love audiobooks i know some, people dont consider, audio books as reading, but i do personally, and my,new favorite audio app i used to use, audible just 15 a month for one credit, and then i recently got script 10 a,month for unlimited audiobooks i love, having audiobooks for, when im cleaning when im on a walk, when im driving when im doing mundane, tasks i can just throw on an audiobook, and then i also, recently caved and i bought a kindle and,i dont know i dont know what got into,me i just decided that i wanted a candle, and i love reading this in bed at night,i also like its waterproof so i can, read it in the bath or at the beach, and its very compact so i can travel,i also have kindle unlimited so theres, tons of books that come with kindle, unlimited that i can just download on,here honestly dont know if this is,excessive um having three forms of,reading audiobooks physical books and, and, digital books, but whenever i get obsessed with, something i get obsessed with it like i,cant stop myself i just have to,i just i have books on me at all times, now because i love, reading,i also love this because of the, anonymity is that,is that the word, and,[Music],i love the anonymity um,i mean look at me im saying big words i,read books, anyways um i,could read on my ipad you can get the, kindle app on your ipad however,i am on a screen quite literally the, entire day from the moment i wake up,until dinner, and i just dont, like reading on the ipad,so now that ive explained, and justified my entire, reading system, lets set up the reading planner,[Music],[Music],so i thought i would just take you, through what i have on my planner at the, moment so,this is the so this is the cover page, and then you swipe over and, this is my reading goal for the year, which is 25 books which ive actually,i think ive already hit this ill have,to check my goodreads but,um,yep so and this all has you know, the stickers that i made that come with, the planner as well if you want to get a,little more creative and then of course, the tabs up here are linked tabs, that you can just tap on and it will go,to,so here is my book board um,this is just like a vision board with, all of the books that you want to read, over a year or maybe the summer maybe, you can make your like summer reading, list one and i just kind of like having, this and making these because it just, inspires me to read and i just love, looking at all of the beautiful pictures,of the books, and yeah its a little bit of a nerdy, thing but honestly a lot of people, really enjoy this spread and i really do,too so,thats that, here we have our reading list which i,need to redo this i need to erase this,and,re-do my,reading list these can be,you know books you want to read, and some of these still stand but i need,to,kind of refresh this a little bit,and then here is the digital bookshelf,so as you can see,i have in here a page filled with some,of the books i read, but i dont have all of them in here and,i need to this is like the main thing i,need to do and i need to add in all of,the books that ive read this year and,add them to this spread so that i can,see all of my ratings, and then of course we have the book, review section which i probably, wont go back and review each of the, books ive read this year just because, that is going to be a lot so i might go,in and just do my most recent like, couple reads in here, and just kind of do that so ill, probably do it for my most recent two, reads and then we have a quotes page, which as you can see is completely empty,i have not filled this out at all so im,going to go through and look up some, quotes from some of my favorite books so,far this year and write in some of my,favorite quotes in here so now lets get, into filling out the reading journal i,wanted to show you guys that i was, watching the outer banks as i was doing, this, and yeah so the first thing i did was i,set my reading goal for the end of 2021,so you saw at the beginning of the year,i set my goal to be 25 books and ive, already hit that which is really awesome,so i thought that i would set another, goal for the end of the year and the, reason why i set a reading goal is,because it motivates me and inspires me,to read rather than you know scroll on,social media or watch tv and plus ive, just really found a love for reading, this year and so im more than happy to,try to hit my next goal of 25 books for,the end of 2021 which would leave me,with 50 books which is so much more than, ive ever read and i used to not be a,reader at all growing up i honestly, hated reading and i dont know whats, come over me i think ive just found, books that ive actually really enjoyed, and therefore im able to fully enjoy, the process of reading and now i,definitely look forward to it at the end,of every night and its just something, that

Atlas of the Heart by Brene Brown | Book Review

atlas of the heart by brene brown bernie, brown is an excellent author whose work, occupies a unique important and often, overlooked space in every,self-development junkies library lets,be honest tackling topics like, vulnerability courage shame belonging, and more its meant to open up a,nationwide conversation about human, elements missing from most everyday, lives in a country like america i have, reviewed all her books and she comes out, with another one what makes this one, different what can we learn from it what, can we expect is it actually good is it,any better than our others these are, questions were gonna try to answer in,this review and basically every review,on this channel going over a summary of,it including my thoughts on the chapters, standout quotes who i recommend this, book to and what books to maybe check, out next just so you guys know there are, affiliate links in the description and,if you guys buy anything through those, links like for example this book then i,get commission which helps me build this, channel and keep making these videos, welcome back to my channel my name is,sam and i want to make self growth, normal because people should not have to,look this information up it should just,be mainstream knowledge if you agree, please make sure to smash that like, button brown has a tendency to talk, pretty often about herself and her work,on occasion throwing in this big, relation to larger things like heres, how this applies to people today she, leans much of this weight on her writing, skills on the art of storytelling it,seems however that shifting from this to,studies and quoting certain well-known,researchers sometimes even movies or,novels or maybe songs as well as,honestly how she taps into these things, this ones a little bit more mature and, balanced than i was expecting which is,probably saying a lot because her books, are usually pretty mature despite her,fun-loving southern personality and, relatable sense of humor this book she, wants to be an atlas for all of us,because with adventurous hearts and the, right maps she believes we can travel, anywhere and never fear losing ourselves, even when we dont know who we are i,love what she was saying about the, differences between stress and overwhelm, using her experience as a server at a,restaurant during college as a reference,we feel stressed when we evaluate, environmental demand as beyond our, ability to cope successfully but, overwhelm is an extreme level of stress,an emotional or cognitive tense, intensity to the point of being unable,to function and when i think of this i,think that what used to,overwhelm me now kind of just stresses,me the following chapter about, vulnerability and comparing yourself to,others really stood out where she take, where she took a plunge into the, differences between jealousy and envy it,seems like through the structure here, understanding the language we use to,navigate the emotions we associate with, what matters to us is paramount to being, the map makers and travelers that shes, talking about at the time i got to the, boredom chapter i realized that what, shes doing in this book is just showing,us all these insights about what, emotions are each one of them and that, adds so much cohesiveness to this book, also explaining how some researchers, believe all inducing events may be one,of the fastest and most powerful methods,of personal change and growth shell add, something like we dont have to stand on,a cliff and see the northern lights to,feel awe or wonder although hashtag, bucket list i definitely want to stand,on a cliff and see the northern lights, but sometimes i feel like my dog lucy is,staring into my soul and i feel a huge, sense of wonder like how did i end up,living with an actual ewok in my house, its unreal at this point writing the, review i realized in my video about what,to expect from this book i mentioned, that there are what is it like 78,different emotions we experience that, brown talks about ableists of the heart, seriously went in on these emotions but, again that balance of like heres a,little about me and heres what we,learned in our research its there were, talking about stuff like irony sarcasm, nostalgia wonder envy bitter sweetness, curiosity anguish hopelessness despair,no theyre not the same thing and at the, same time shell add in certain, compliments to these like info about the, learning curve of the skill of setting, realistic goals and what life is like, when youre living with grief i know i,know its this thing of like i dont, want to talk about my feelings no,never lets talk about feelings and when,i say talk about feelings i mean about, feelings she goes much deeper and, concisely too which is astounding into, these things than just definition its, definitions differences occasional humor, occasional instructions like the dos,and donts of empathizing versus, sympathizing and this very organized, layout of these emotions that make atlas,of the heart so good like if you add, bernays browns personality onto that it,makes for a wonderful very enjoyable, piece of work whats pretty significant, about this is that brown tends to,understandably talk a lot about really, certain emotions not this whole breadth,of them so to hear her take on very very, specific individual ones it was it was, illuminating a lot of them she maybe she,has talked about them in other books but, nothing close to the degree in this one,and again it was very concise if the, audio version was like eight hours long,to talk about that many emotions so,deeply in that amount of time is its,its very impressive to say the least, heres one thing she said that stood out, about embarrassment if youve raised, teens or tweens and been in their, general vicinity you know that they can, oftentimes spend more time being, embarrassed than not embarrassed its, constant cringe when we start seeing, ourselves through others eyes and it,stays that way until we get to mid-life,and fall apart before we realize it just, takes too much energy to try to manage, perception if i havent said like 97,times in this review she talks much more, about her studies in research in atlas,of the heart than i thought she would, something else that fascinated me was,the chapter about joy where she, discussed what joy does to us and why,its so hard to describe the feeling of,joy in my opinion joy is such an,underrated emotion possibly because it,may not be something that a lot of us,experience or see every day with joy, colors seem brighter physical movements, feel freer and easier and smiling, happens almost involuntarily who doesnt, want that,i mean probably anyone at a funeral or,in the hospital finding out that a,relative has a life-threatening disease, and then she talks about the, relationship between joy and gratitude, describing it as an intriguing upward, spiral the more grateful we are the more, joyful we are and the more joyful we are,the more grateful we are some of what, youll hear in atlas of the heart which,i also found interesting i find so many, things interesting in these books i,cant imagine how many times i use the, word interesting in each review youll, hear brown correcting herself from her, previous work or bouncing off of things, that she said about each of these, emotions in her previous works theres a,passage in her other book braving the, wilderness the first of hers that i,actually ever checked out a long time, ago by long time i mean five years, talking about times and places where, demographics of people were referred to,as sub-human or animals dehumanization, through language and she explained here, for example it came from some form of,specifically disgust no one talks about, these things no one like atlas was, really a dive into emotions like unlike, any other compared to her other works i,would say its more cohesive its very, organized very balanced what, occasionally on this channel will refer,to as the study story ratio which may,not be practical because how do you, quantify that is again very balanced the, topic is useful and not often explored, and she wa

Book Review Template in OneNote

do you like reading books as much as i,do,but sometimes keeping track of all those, books could be hard, today i want to show you how i set up a,template to keep track of my books,in onenote,[Music],well hi everyone im crystal from a,crystal clear life, where we focus on planning organizing, and living a more simplified life,at least thats the plan anyway,im so glad that you joined me today and,im hoping that the light cooperates, today, the sun is peeking in and out and the, wind is blowing, and i think we might be getting some, shadows well see,its not me that you want to see anyway, its what were doing today,to create our template so lets get, started,if you see over here on my computer, screen ive set up a blank page,in my onenote planner,my goal today is to create a book review, template that i can use, over and over and over again im going,to start with an existing template, add to that and then save it as a,template that i can use in the future, okay lets jump right in the first thing, that i want to do,on my blank page is i am going to go up,here to the insert tab,and im going to go over here to page, templates, when i click on the down arrow of page, templates, youll see that it opens this whole list,of templates here on the side, now i have looked at all of these and, each one of these categories, has a list of templates that you can, choose from im gonna go down here to,decorative, because i know theres one that has to,do with books,ah there it is click on books, and you see that it brings up a little, stack of books with a brown line down, through, the edge of it im going to call this my,book review, template, now lets add some things to this i have, shared with you in the past that i,create a lot of templates, that i store in these little containers, that i can use on various pages, throughout my planner, well today i want to focus on my,book review that ive created and thats, right here,so lets quickly copy that right click, hit copy go back to our,2021 life planner to our blank page, and we are going to paste that in,and you see the container gets a little, bigger thats okay,we can adjust it by grabbing it up here,at the top,and changing it however we would like, now when i created this template all i,did was, give it a title book review and then i,put these, title author and rating items in here as,a placeholder,so that i would remember to include, those things,i also gave myself some lines here for, some highlights for the book, maybe i want to put a synopsis maybe id,like to do more in-depth discussion,i could list characters plots that kind,of thing, anything that i want in here just to,help me remember, what happened in the book its, especially confusing for me,if im reading a series that has 10 or,12 books,to keep track of events that happen at,different times,so i like to have some place that i can, write that down, now theres another part to this that i,want to add,so let me jump back over to my personal, notebook, and right here i have a list of books to,read,so im going to copy that take it back,to my 2021 live planner, again im going to paste that on the, side, books to read now im going to modify, this just a little bit,i want to do books to read by this, author, now lets make that a little bit bigger,so you may want to include here other, titles that that author may have written, that youre interested in reading, now you see i have lines that are here, because if i wanted to,i could use this on my ipad with my,apple pencil, and i could hand write those titles in,or if im using it here on my desktop, and i simply want to,type that title in all i have to do is,highlight the line, and i can type title,of book two and so on and so on,i can continue adding books that i would, like to read by that author,im going to copy this again because i,have gotten into reading a lot of series, lately, and i like to keep track of the books in,order in the series that im reading,so again i have lines below so that i,can write the titles,of the books in the series that i want, now looking at this page it looks a,little drab to me,lets stick it up a little bit, going back to my personal notebook im,going to jump over here to my stickers,im going to maybe grab a star, for a rating and well take that back to,our planner, and maybe we want to put those stars so,that they can be used,by our rating so lets move him over, and well make him a little smaller, lets add some more,if we go over to our, autumn splendor boxes there are some, beautiful post-it notes there,i like this sticker so im going to copy, that, take it back to my notebook, paste on the side move it up a little we,notice its a little big,we can make it smaller by grabbing those, corners, now youll notice that my list is going, underneath,so what i want to do here is go down to,order, right click and go down to order and say, bring to front, and that will put my list in the front, and that will put the post-it note,in the back i still can grab the post-it,note and make it the size that i need,to fit the box that i have, that looks much better yes now lets go,get something for the books to read in,this series,i dont want to use the post-it notes, again, that might be a little decorative that, ones kind of,nice i could use bullet dots,no lets use this one down here so were, going to choose that, copy go back to our notebook, paste on the side, send that to the back by ordering, and then you see it goes, right behind then we can adjust the size,as needed, and get it to fit, just the way we want now, that looks fantastic i dont have any, details in here yet, because remember were trying to set, this up as a template,so that we can add other things as we go,i think im going to copy this star, because id like to set up some star, ratings, come over here and work on the side, well make him a little bit bigger so we,can see what were doing, copy him again so theres a one star, rating, maybe we could give a two star rating, put them right close to each other, almost touching, but not quite then lets do a three star, rating, oops, another trick that i want to show you in,case you dont know,is you can go to the draw tool click on,the lasso, circle those two stars together, copy them and, paste them and they stay together, now i have a three star rating lets, paste again, and again, move those close together, now i have a four star rating lets go,for five, paste paste again, one more time, and we dont need six we just need five,so lets get rid of that last one, well click on him and delete, now because i have all of these stickers, separated, again what i can do is i can go over, here to the lasso tool, and i can circle all five of those stars, together, notice how they all stay connected i can, copy that,im going to come over here and im,going to paste, but not as an individual, picture im going to go down here to,paste as a picture, and you see theres our five star rating, and when i click on that again youll, notice that it is one big box now so you,can choose the five star rating, paste as a picture, and theres our four star rating when i,click on it,you see that all four of those stars, stay together,i can still adjust it i can still make,it smaller,if i want to choose this for my rating i,can do that,im going to speed it up while we do the, rest of these,[Music],lets come back in and erase all of,these stars, individually so they dont clutter up,our template,im simply holding down the ctrl key and, clicking on each star, and its adding it,there we go now we can delete, and well get rid of our sample delete, and our one star there also delete, there you go now we have our book review, and were going to save this as a,template so that we can use it over and, over again, its very simple lets go back over here,to the far right hand side, and if you look down at the very very, bottom of the templates page,it says save current page as,template were going to do that its, going to ask us to give it a template, name,i can type book, review, and i hit save, its that easy now if i want to add a,new page, all i have to do is go under the, templates my templates,

How to Write the Perfect Book Review

hey guys im dave chesson of,kindlepreneur and today were going to,be talking about how to write the, perfect book review now if you dont, know there are actually two types of,reviews were going to cover the first,is if youre writing an online review, like say for example for your blog or,for your website or if youre even, writing a book review report for a,teacher or professor, the second is what im going to call a,market review and thats if you decide, that you want to write a review of a,book on say amazon and you want to get,the most effective review out there so,as to help people either a decide to,write the read the book or b,maybe stay off of it now whatever your, reason is for writing a review the first, thing you should always do is think, about why youre doing it and that, should help influence exactly how you, structure this but in this video im,going to show you the four components, that you should absolutely include in,your review so that your words mean even, more to the market this could either, help out the author youre writing the, review for or get people more engaged in,your writing,or even get a better grade, but before i get into those four, important sections if youd like to,learn more about writing or book, marketing be sure to hit that subscribe, button as well as the little bell icon,to the right so you get notified when my,next video comes out and with that lets, begin, okay so when it comes to writing an,effective book review theres four, components that you need to cover, the summary, the results, the strengths and weaknesses and finally, your final recommendation lets go ahead, and cover those four the summary should,be a brief discussion about what the, book is you do not want to give away any,key information, most of the time you want to speak very, broad as youre covering it you dont, want to get into details, you need to give the reader a sense that, you have actually read through the book, and that you understand what its doing, when it comes to writing a summary for, review you dont want to go on and on,and write paragraph after paragraph you, want to keep it short and to the point,it should include like major events, characters or if its non-fiction some, strong strategic points as well as,benefits but do remember if youre, either writing an online review or a,market review that the person whos come,to read your review probably already, knows a lot of the details and has read, the book description one last point on,the summary as well is do not include, any spoilers or give away anything, thats going to ruin the readers, experience and youre probably going to,get a lot of negative feedback for that, okay so to recap do write about the main, characters and write what makes them, unique as well as major plot points, include the main conflict as well,do ask the main question that the story, answers or the benefits that it provides,if its non-fiction do not include, spoilers like plot twists or major, events do not give a full summary and go,into too many details all right lets, move to the next section which is,results for this section its going to,be very different between fiction and,non-fiction for fiction youre talking, about what kind of emotions or what kind,of path did the story bring you were you, excited scared did you care about the, characters these are all about your, mental state as well as emotional state,as you went through this journey in the, book be sure to cover those things and, what drew that out of you what made you, feel for the characters what made you, worried about the main conflict for,non-fiction youre going to talk about, more of the results for example what did,you learn from the book and how will, this affect you and your life moving, forward are you going to make any, changes because of this or has this, changed you in any way, basically youre going to take the, information that the book provided and, apply it to how it benefits you so in,recap, express the emotions the story made you, feel in the first person or express what, you learned and how this book changed, you next is the strengths and weaknesses, imagine somebody whos reviewing book, and they say nothing but the greatest, things about it or on the other side the, person says nothing but the worst things, about it do you trust that reviewer or,do you think maybe theyre jaded thats, why its really important for a reviewer,to bring up both the strengths and the, weaknesses or the pros and the cons it,therefore shows that you have an even, keel and that youre a legitimate, reviewer who doesnt have some ulterior, motive for writing this review, furthermore in truth there really isnt, such a thing as a perfect book i know, some of you guys are probably gonna say, something in the comments about which, books are perfect but all in all there, really isnt such a thing so try to,analyze and see what could have been, done better one thing to note in your, writing style though is dont mix the, strengths and weaknesses dont go,strength weakness weakness strength, weakness no group them start off with, strengths or start off with weaknesses, but when youre finished with that then, move to the other otherwise youll, confuse your reader and it will be hard,to follow the pros and cons to the book, heres some other tips to strengthen, weaknesses you should write about, strengths and weaknesses in the first, person also use direct quotes to back up,your research do not confuse the reader, about what is a strength and what is a,weakness separate them in your review do,not use too many quotes to the point, that its no longer your own words all, right and the final and most important, part is give your actual recommendation,in the previous sections youve defined, what the book is what it did for you and, finally the pros and cons this is where, you group it together and you finally, give your personal take if however you, werent actually a fan of this book and, youre not going to recommend it one way,to really help the reader is to list, other books that you think would be good, fits this can help in two ways first off,is youre providing an outlet for people, who came to read your review on where, else they can go the second thing is is,that if that reader has read those books, before and they like them too then that, really brings in even more credit on,your review as well but one thing that,im going to say as one writer to,another writer is,if you really dont like the book do not, attack the author or the book itself i,would say be constructive and care about, the market but remember theres a human,on the other side the author so think, constructively so to recap and some, extra tips do wrap up all your thoughts, and suggestions give the reader, something to do or read next keep your, final thoughts short and to the point, and do not criticize the author or the, book only suggest alright guys so with, that using these four general areas as,well as the tips we talked about you can, create a much stronger book review, whether thats for your blog for a,report youre writing or even for an,amazon review i hope youve enjoyed this, lesson i cant wait to see some of your, reviews and by the way if you do have, some put a link to it in the comments, below so other people can check out your, review and see how you structured it and, with that im dave chesson of,kindlepreneur signing off cheers

How I Remember Everything I Read

in this video im going to take you, through the seven levels along the, journey of trying to remember everything, that we read hey friends welcome back to,the channel if youre new here my name,is ali im a doctor based in the uk and,on this channel we explore the, strategies and tools that help us live, healthier happier more productive lives, and if youre anything like me and, youre interested in personal, development, lifelong learning becoming a better, thinker and all that stuff youll know, that reading,is a very important part of this but if,youre anything like me youve read a,lot of books but youve probably, forgotten the vast majority of the stuff, that youve read, and probably havent applied it to your, life in the way that youd liked a few, months ago i realized that this was a,big issue for me and so ive been, actively working to try and remedy it,and so in this video im going to share, what i think are the seven levels along, this path of trying to remember more of,the stuff that we read and apply to our, lives we start off our reading careers,at level one,the muggle this is basically where we,read stuff but were just reading it,were not highlighting it were not, taking any notes were not really, engaging with the material beyond just, passively reading it and when were, muggles and trying to learn about a new, topic like entrepreneurship or whatever, well end up just reading loads and, loads and loads and sort of hoping were, gonna passively absorb stuff by,diffusion by osmosis whatever but were, not like, actively using any brain power to engage, with it this is fine if were reading, fiction but for non-fiction and when i,read non-fiction i kind of want to get, some insights from it i want to learn, stuff im a dumbass and therefore i just, forget everything that i read and, therefore this isnt good for me and,its probably not just me because there,is a phenomenon in memory research, called the forgetting curve which just, shows that over time our memory for, everything decays unless we find a way,to engage with it or consolidate our, memory of the thing at some point we,might realize that our muggle existence,is pretty unfulfilling and so well come, across, level two of the journey which is the, squid and when you become a squib at,level two, youre now reading stuff but youre, highlighting or underlining the things, that particularly resonate with you this,is easy enough to do if you read on a,kindle,or you can use one of these like old, school things i dont even know what to,call anymore because who even uses this, stuff and this is what i was doing since,i first got a kindle in around 2008 2009,all the way through to 2018 when i,discovered that actually there were more, levels along this path and this is fine, because highlighting stuff is,kind of nice and its kind of fun to use,one of these old-fashioned antique, devices, but the problem with highlighting stuff,is a we actually dont, remember the stuff that we highlight and, there is a mountain of evidence that, shows that highlighting or underlining, does nothing to actually improve our, memory of the stuff and we also run into, the issue that weve got all these, highlights but theyre sort of hidden, away inside our book or inside our, kindle and we dont really have a reason,to go through them so that was me from,2008 all the way through to 2018 those, were the dark days, but then in september 2018 i reached, level three which were calling, hufflepuff and level three hufflepuff is,when you have a systematic, system for reviewing your highlights so,in september 2018,i discovered this amazing service called, readwise link in the video description, and what readwise does is that it,automatically connects to your kindle, account and it pulls in,all of the highlights youve ever, highlighted from all the books that, youve read and what they do is that, every day they send you an email with, five random highlights so i started, using read wise in september 2018 and,ive been getting this email every day,and for the first few months,i was religiously reading this email and,i found oh well, this thing that i highlighted five years, ago is now very relevant to me today and,the read-wise email has surfaced it for,me which was really awesome, but over the last two years ive kind of,become less and less religious, about reading my five daily things in,the read-wise email i still get it i,still open it from time to time but its,a bit too passive for my liking, and that is when we get to level four, and were calling level four ravenclaw, because i couldnt think of anything, else and i deeply apologize for playing, into the stereotype i didnt mean it im,work, trust me but level four is what i talked, about in my video about the magical, insight logging framework which will be,linked somewhere up here and basically, this is a system whereby you, automatically pull in your highlights, into a central note-taking app,and so we can see here ive got my,read-wise database which has all the, books and it shows all the,all the highlights ive made in each one,so i can look at the books and we can,see ive got 126 highlights from tools,of titans all of which are going to be,in here, and it also links very nicely to the, location and it opens it up in the, kindle web app if thats what i want to,look at we also have articles over here,so this is taking all my highlights from, instapaper, and we even have tweets so these are, tweets that have saved to read wise that, are automatically coming into notion, and we have podcasts that this is,podcast air quotes that ive taken, through the app air to io,again a lot more details about the, system in my magical insight logging, framework video which will be linked up,there, and so this is level four this is where, weve got a tool that automatically, pulls in our highlights and because i,use notion for absolutely everything in,my life, pretty much its all very convenient, when its sitting there but, level four is still a little bit, problematic because this is still very, passive all were doing at this point is,were bringing in highlights, and were hoping that our future selves, will at some point revisit the, highlights just because we want to and, again ive been doing this for a few, months now but i found that inevitably, other things were coming up and i was,not finding the time or making the time,to actively review the highlights of the, stuff that id read,in notion and this is where we start to,get into the fun territory because now,we have level 5 which is dumbledores, army and when youre at level 5 or a,member of the da,you engage with books by taking quick, notes on the stuff that youve read now,im going to show you how i do this in,notion so ive got this book known to,database that has,all of the books uh that i read fiction, and nonfiction and for each of these, categories fiction and non-fiction ive, created templates that i use,for my very quick book reviews and so if,ive just read a non-fiction book i will, put a non-fiction book template here,so it asked me to give the title of the, book i can select a genre so lets say, productivity philosophy, and magic why not and i can say the date, that i finished it lets say that was, today and basically what this notion, template does is that it creates these, categories for me so firstly the book in,three sentences, impressions how i discovered it who, should read it how the book changed me,and my top, three quotes from the book so this is,actually very quick, and this level level five is what i,regret not doing with everything that, ive ever read, because if you can just summarize a book,in three sentences thats like a really, fantastic way of actually engaging with, the content and as someone like richard, feinman would say,its a way of actively ensuring that you, actually understand the concepts in the, book and so here are some notes that i,took on show your work by austin cleon, the book in three sentences share your, thoughts and your process and your work, online for free, you dont need to be an expert to share, your work beginners can easily help, othe
