Jupiters Legacy: Season 1 Review
and im doing everything i can to keep,this family from falling apart,its not working in an era when comic,book tv shows like amazons the boys and,marvels the falcon and the winter,soldier subvert genre expectations by,addressing topical issues in america,netflixs adaptation of the mark miller,and frank quitely graphic novel,jupiters legacy opts for a more,unambiguous approach to its storytelling,while not as illuminating or inventive,as those previously mentioned series,jupiters legacy delivers plenty of,exciting superhero action a compelling,story and memorable characters thanks to,strong performances from its leading,cast,jupiters legacy centers on the worlds,first superheroes and their children who,have mostly inherited unique abilities,of their own,the season one arc spans nearly a,century bouncing back and forth between,great depression era america,and the present this storytelling,approach keeps the shows momentum going,strong throughout its eight episodes but,at times lessens the impact of the,events taking place in the present day,especially when it comes to the younger,generation of superheroes the events,during the 1930s focus on the origin,stories of the founding members of the,union sheldon sampson aka the utopian,works alongside his brother walter aka,brainwave josh demille delivers an,impressive performance effectively,transforming his character from the,handsome and carefree son of a,millionaire,into a disheveled shell of himself that,no one wants to be around sheldons,psychotic break eventually leads him,his brother and an unlikely band of,misfits on a quest that feels very akin,to an indiana jones-esque adventure,involving strange symbols that need,translating graves that need pillaging,and even a daring captain that needs,hiring for a trip across treacherous,waters in search of an island no ones,ever heard of the other members of the,troop include george hutchins aka sky,fox,fitzsmall aka the flair grace kennedy,aka lady liberty,the future mrs sampson and dr richard,conrad aka blue bolt while we get to see,sheldon walter grace and fitzs,respective stories develop over the,course of several decades the children,of the founding members simply dont get,that kind of attention and suffer a bit,in development relative to their parents,this story-driven dilemma makes them,feel more one-dimensional than they,probably ought to be the sheldon,siblings have predictable storylines and,personalities,brandon is the loyal son who wants,nothing more than to please his father,and take over the family business,while chloe is the drug addled and,rebellious daughter who hates everything,her family stands for,the most interesting member of the new,generation of superheroes,villains doesnt have super powers at,all hutch is the son of skyfox and what,he lacks in strength he makes up for in,cunning determination and some powerful,gadgets hes a dynamic wild card to,watch in season 1 since its difficult,to tell,which side hell end up on in terms of,superhero action jupiters legacy,doesnt quite reach the theatrical,heights of the falcon and the winter,soldier but it does do an adequate job,of capturing the spectacle of demigods,trying to tear each other apart,most of the action takes place in the,present day story with a particular,thrilling battle in the premiere that,serves as a great showcase for the,variety of superpowers these heroes,possess,with the help of some solid visual,effects,jupiters legacy season 1 is filled with,memorable characters with impressive,powers and mysterious locations to,explore though many of the compelling,aspects that make this series work are,centered around the founding members of,the union during the 1930s rather than,the kids adventures in the present day,there will hopefully be time for them to,take the spotlight later on for more in,the world of entertainment be sure to,check out our review of the series,premiere of star wars the bad batch,and what new anime to watch in spring,2021 and for everything else youre,already in the right place,[Music],ign

so jupiters legacy is,out it is sort of like netflixs the,boys,or their version of invincible and,unfortunately the first impression,is uh really bad uh,the costumes look uh ridiculous uh you,know i know theyre comic book accurate,first let me just say the comic book is,amazing all right its a,comic book you should read its good but,the series adaptation,i think is one of the uh more uh,poor adaptations uh recently it is,uh got a lot of really boring elements,to it,daddy issues the superhero series uh,with the daughter character,and the sun character just so awful the,daughter is this annoying coke head,huge daddy issues same thing with the,sun wanting to live up to the father,and its just weve seen this stuff done,far,less annoying and far better and stuff,like uh invincible,and and then the other stuff which is,like basically you know,dealing with the superheroes code uh,does the superheroes code of honor,and not killing actually work in a,modern day world well weve seen that,done better,uh in you know the boys and series like,that so,i just think it makes a really poor,first impression especially,with the uh the way the characters look,everybody looks like theyre wearing,fake beards,spray painted white um just awful,and all the special [ __ ] done in like,after effects,a low budget version of after effects,they really build up these fights like,their amazing fights theyre not,uh they tried to do a little bit of,brutality with some blood and,decapitation and stuff like that but it,is uh,pales in comparison to what weve seen,in the past,um and uh i think it just kind of draws,out its story um,in the comic books its about four pages,where you learn where they get their,powers,here they drag it out through the entire,season going,back and forth between 1927 something,like that and current day,and i think thats why the actors had to,wear that ridiculous age,aging makeup uh for modern day stuff and,the the the past stuff aside from silver,fox who i find really fascinating sort,of like this universes batman,um aside from him i think the the past,stuff kind of really sucks,uh it really slows down the series makes,it kind of boring,um and the present day stuff when its,dealing with the kids,is awful now there are good moments to,the series like hutch,i really like hutch hes got like this,lightning rod thing that he could,teleport anywhere,and at first you think hes like a peon,or an underling of higher level bosses,but you realize no this guys a [ __ ],badass dude,um so i like his character and,i dont know its just josh dumas looks,so ridiculous as the utopian,and i just dont buy it i just see like,actors wearing,makeup and and hairspray and and hair,coloring,and it just rings hollow and it might,just be,coming at the wrong time um you know,because weve,we have so much superhero content so,much really good superhero content,wanda vision uh you know the falcon,and winter soldier on disney plus uh,invincible and,amazon the boys and that here,along comes this series which tries to,adapt a comic book thats also really,really good,uh but its just doing it in a long,drawn-out,way it just results in a lot of cringe,uh and a lot of you know i dont know,its not as poignant as it seems to,think that it is,and it makes some changes from the comic,book some character deaths,uh happen that dont really happen in,the comics uh,at least towards the end the big reveal,at the end um,its the first two episodes make a,horrible first impression at least me i,didnt want to continue but i kind of,forced myself through it,obviously im really into comics really,into uh you know,superhero stuff being a big superman fan,um and i just kind of wanted to see what,the utopian dude was all about,and after watching it theres not much,here not much i care about,uh and i i hope season two will be,better maybe season two will be better,but,uh as it stands now i think that if,youve got some free time,you could put this on in the background,but its not something you need to run,out and watch honestly,uh its not one of the better ones so,im gonna give jupiters legacy,a five out of ten i think it gets its,average,it does uh you know half of the things,right its got some interesting,elements to it especially when it really,focuses in on whether,superheroes should kill and what happens,when the super villains kill,kill the heroes and the younger team is,struggling with why are they allowed to,kill us and we cant take revenge and,kill them,uh and maintaining the code thats where,its at strongest,but where its at its weakest and most,annoying is when its focusing on the,children,when its focusing on the daddy issues,because all of it is unrealistic stuff,its like shut up,nobody cares you know your dad is,literally,saving the world right a lot of this,character motivation stuff would be a,lot different,if it actually played out which is,trying to do its trying to say that,what if all this was real,it wouldnt go down like that um it just,feels forced at times,in order to you know advance the plot so,i dont know,uh theres theres some interesting,betrayals towards the end,and uh where they go with it i want to,see silver fox,uh he was sidelined the whole season,brandons character,mercifully was sidelined the whole,season the utopian son,not in it much uh theres one member of,the six people that got their powers you,dont ever really get to see him i guess,theyre saving him for season two,so maybe season two will be a little bit,better but this particular season,i thought it was hokey cringey uh,scraping the bottom of the barrel,uh not a very good adaptation uh gets,interesting when you invest,eight hours when you dump eight hours,into it youre gonna have a,a little bit of a s uh you know sunken,cost,fallacy where you you know theres,definitely some things to defend and,youre gonna like in it but ultimately,it could have been done better and uh,its,its like if we get a lot more of these,i think people are gonna get sick of,superhero content,uh rather than stuff weve been seeing,on disney plus and,amazon lately so netflix a little bit of,a dud here with this one,uh but maybe itll get better in season,two who knows so,thats my opinion uh i know its,probably gonna piss off some fans of it,because theres fans of everything,and there are always crazies out there,but jupiters legacy,not for me uh not that great all right,thats my review ill see you guys on,the next angry jail show bye guys

hello everyone its me,nick mason im here to tell you that,this is the introduction to our review,that we did on the weekly planet,for jupiters legacy therell be some,spoilers and therell be time codes,below but also in the video i think we,say,spoilers apologies for the lack of very,rapidly moving images,got some other stuff in the works at the,moment that im trying to focus on so,this manages to keep things brief,anyways leave a like if you want and go,back and watch the sore caravan of,garbage videos because theyre getting,bloody suppressed by youtube thats,right im one of those youtubers that,are like,youtubers suppressing my videos theyre,trying to stop the truth,the public needs to see my saw videos,thats who i,am im that guy now im nick mason and,ill see you guys,at a different time is the time to talk,about the thing that we watched this,week,uh jupiter ascending this is uh the,first,miller world production uh netflix,yes because have you will you do it,james were you doing a joke or not a,joke there what did i say i said jupiter,or same thing jupiters ascending,nope jupiter is legacy ive actually,written,jupiters ascending here thats,incorrect what you said,thats a different movie and see what,what i initially assumed there was you,were going to do one of your classic,fake outs,where youre going to read the summary,jupiter ascending,with channing tatum or whoever mila,kunis and,and then edward and i was going to be,like james james james but then it,turned out,i wasnt doing it youre operating in 40,all the time every time,apologies i could have led that into a,great joke but i didnt did i,no so its yeah heres the thing if you,call it jupiter sending again ill just,let it go yeah and i will,yeah and i definitely will so its the,first miller world production because,they got,purchased by netflix so you know hes,worked on previously kick-ass kingsman,people who dont yeah he wrote hes,written a bunch of comic books that have,been adapted,to movies with more or less,accuracy and quality yes like its its,wildly varying like some are quite,similar kick-ass is very similar,wanted almost no correlation at all,kings been pretty close yep uh but its,kind of more sci-fi,in the movies yeah miller world has kind,of switched from being a guy who creates,comics and then they get adapted to,to movies and tv shows and hes more,like a guy who comes up with tv and,movie concepts and then hes allowed to,do a comic book if he wants exactly but,hes got a bunch of stuff sort of still,in the tank that are going to be turned,into things,so many and this is so many things down,the line yeah so what did you think,about this,or what did you think the story was oh,okay so,its on netflix as well if you havent,seen it were gonna do non spoilers and,then some spoilers yeah and i think,probably,we might spoil a little bit of the comic,book in spoilers maybe yes also i dont,know anybodys name in this,okay thats quite all right you can we,can we can refer to them as the actors,names,okay the colors of their costumes kano,you know,um so basically uh the premise is yep,uh ver the very short version is that in,the 1930s,a uh a group of uh six people,are drawn to a mysterious island yep and,then they return,from that island after some mysterious,circumstances they return,with superpowers they become the worlds,first six superheroes yeah,and then uh in the modern era uh theyve,been theyve been,doing superhero stuff for decades,theyve all,the world has changed uh and and how,they how they deal with that,thats interesting because in the comic,book yeah the,moments on the island are very brief,like that,there is a comic dedicated to it but i,started it and went,im not really into this stupid circle,yep or ascending,and jupiters kano,but yeah so that was the part of the,narrative that i wasnt really that,familiar with yeah so well so so the the,the comic book basically starts with a,couple of pages where the characters are,like oh its the 1930s and youve got,had this dream you want to go to an,island and i think youre,i think youre but youre youre off,your rocker but im im going to bally,well join you,theyre not british but theyre theyre,like were going to go to the island and,they go to the island that just cuts to,the modern day and theyre super heroes,basically,and then in like jupiters circle,theres a little bit more of theres a,few more pages of that,but its its like five percent of the,narrative yeah and this,the the the journey to the island and,the reasons for them,going to the island and everything that,happened before the eye thats half this,series,this series alternates between the,modern day and and the 30s,and uh pretty interesting initially for,me with the,30 stuff i was like i wish there was,kind of,less of this okay or they did one,episode of it,just took one of these eight and went,well just do the island stuff yeah,right then by the end,i was i think that was the storyline,that i actually preferred of the two,yeah right because the other storyline,kind of didnt get to where the comic,immediately goes to almost immediately,yeah yeah well i mean,i think maybe weve mentioned this past,i think that one of the reasons that,mark miller does get to make so much,stuff in hollywood is he seems to be not,precious at all about what its turned,into,yeah like the idea of wanted was about,super villains,and in the movie its just about like,assassins and the loom and,yeah like it seems people are just like,yeah he just you know he licensed it out,and let people do what he wants yeah and,and changes have been made in this like,some in small ways,some in big ways like there is so much,more stuff in the past,yes but yeah this this is the the the,characters have spent their lives living,their superhero lives anyway living by a,code that,sheldon whos played by josh demelle,sort of has set up its like we dont,kill we dont interfere with world,affairs we dont do all this,we just save lives and and stop crime,and do good we kiss each other and kiss,each other and,thats one of the reasons thats theyve,sort of i think,kind of candidly been like okay why is,it that this world isnt completely,different from our world,yeah and theyve gone okay well its,because theyve decided not to intervene,in anything yeah they didnt intervene,in world war ii,they didnt intervene in the vietnam war,iraq somewhat into,intervening world war two yeah yeah yeah,but theyre but theyre like okay were,not were just gonna,were gonna uh were gonna stop trains,that are crashing well stop training,we dont do anything like that and and,half of the,people in this group are like okay,thats good and this is how this is how,the world should work and how we should,operate but there are other people who,are like,we have all these powers why dont we,change the world yes,and also its kind of its leaning,towards the younger people because,theyre a descendants of superheroes,and when that when they get the powers,from the island maybe a bunch of people,got irradiated to a lesser extent,its a its a good yeah its never,really explained in the comic books or,in this,i think it might be a case of this this,this just is a superhero universe,in the sense that some people fall into,toxic waste and sometimes theres aliens,and sometimes theres you know spirits,or what have you and its all just super,science and its all just a combination,of things,but i think there is a scene i dont,think this is really spoiler but i think,that,when they gain their powers on the,island theres a sort of a burst of,radiation and it goes on to the boat,thats what i yeah thats out for you,thats waiting for them and you see it,sort of irradiate the,yeah because every everybody else whos,not like the core six,or the children of yeah have like lesser,powers and theres some exceptions like,one super villain in particular that,you know well well get to a
