Mare of Easttown HBO Series Review
my question before we get started is,what is the best show on tv right now,and why is it mayor of east town, what is up flick fans welcome back to my,channel mayor of east town has been, premiering on hbo over the last several, weeks, finally watched the finale just a bit, late and i just want to briefly talk, about why,i believe this show stands out in the, year 2021,and why you should binge it on hbo or,hbo max right now,a detective in a small pennsylvania town, investigates a local murder, while trying to keep her life from, falling apart and that detective,is played incredibly by kate winslet one,of the best performances,i have seen all year the stress that she,is having to deal with in this show, along with past traumas combining with, the mystery of this, entire situation its a lot for one, person one character to handle but kate, winslet does such a great job,of somehow balancing all of this yet we,still get those deeply personal moments, with her and it all kind of culminates, with that finale,uh but well get to that here in just a,second shes incredible the rest of the, cast from, gene smart to joe tippett to evan peters,i mean the ensemble here,is ridiculous and they managed to shine,in each and every episode as this, mystery engulfs this town well both, mysteries and were going back and forth, between those two storylines, and of course the tragedy of that first, episode getting, attached to that character and then that, happens and immediately i was on board, and i knew this show was going to be,something special that along with the, gorgeous haunting cinematography,uh the way that these characters, interact it feels so natural and real, and with a show like this, you want that small town vibe captured, accurately i came from a small town and,im looking for those pieces to kind of,fit together and feel natural and i,think the fact that they chose a small, town,to shoot this in and everyone feels like, they fit their role so perfectly,it does indeed capture that but you have,to have a compelling lead character a,compelling lead actor actress,to carry something like this and this is,indeed a character study kate winslet, has the ability and opportunity to carry, this entire show on her shoulders and,she is so committed to this role, she is essentially trying to balance, being,a brash character on her surface but at,the same time, shes sympathetic she has this, grittiness that weve yet to see,on this level from winslet it was nice,to see that and thats why i believe,an emmy nomination probably an emmy win,is in her future, for this role and then of course the, tragedy of it all this entire situation, and then getting into the genre hbo, always does a great job with these,crime-centric dramatic mysterious shows, this is no different but whats so,compelling about this mystery is the, fact that i,never really honed in on who it,inevitably was,no spoilers in this review in the finale,i would pick someone and say okay,i feel like it might be this or that, person next episode that would, completely wipe away id have to start, fresh, and i was basically and you know this is,what the filmmakers wanted i was, basically, trying to solve this along with kate, winslet and nothing, was ever too obvious in my opinion i,mean you may feel differently but,i never locked in on who it was and i,never really, guessed how everything would go down in,the finale and really the last three, episodes in my opinion and the first, four were really good its one of those, shows that, takes the idea of a slow build up and, really locks in on,that but at the same time youre, learning about each character, youre understanding what their role is,in the situation youre also just kind,of like,is it you huh no not you is it you no,its not you, julian nicholson is one of those, characters that,i thought that performance was maybe, even on the level,of kate winslet and i could say that, about three to four different, performances, everyone is so good in this show and, because everyones so good, when youre following along and were, thinking about both of these tragedies, these story lines the idea of love and, loss and who is behind what, and uh the intrigue of what this show, was able to bring us,i was really so locked in throughout, this show, even though the first four episodes its,a lot of build up im completely okay, with that because the final three and i,was skeptical going into the finale i,said, episode seven they have to deliver even,if it doesnt, surprise you at least intrigues you and, allows you to feel a certain way,and for me the finale did that my only, big thing,is that there was a character maybe two, that i just feel like didnt quite get,the finality, that they needed im like well where did, they go you know i wish they could have, came back in towards the end,and then you do have the pacing which, may throw a more casual goer off but,if you are locked in by the end of,episode one then i have a good feeling, youre gonna be locked in throughout the, entire show i know i was, part of me wishes i would have done, individual episode reviews but, this was one that my wife and i would, just tune in to have a lot of fun with, trying to figure out this mystery get, really emotional, with winslets character what she has to,go through behind the scenes,at home beyond what both of these, mysteries, entail and then of course you know, seeing that gorgeous cinematography, along with the, excellent filmmaking from everyone, behind this show mayor of east town,is a compelling and special show that, dives into these characters in a way, that feels,oh so satisfying in terms of favorite, episodes five six and seven, not necessarily in that order i would go,five at the top um,but either way it just brings it all, home in such a satisfying way,and the subtlety within this show and, some of these shots that we get and, again the emotion,it is absolutely devastating especially, when you look at,where everything ends up um i dont, necessarily know if i want more, because i thought there was a good sense,of finality to it and i know, the filmmakers have come out and said, theyre not necessarily going to do more, all of that being said ive got to give, you guys my score going a um,going to 92 percent i found so much, within this show it was very satisfying, and what this video is its essentially,a spoiler-free recommendation video for,you all,to binge this right now on hbo or hbo,max i know a lot of people who havent, watched it i was one of those it took me,a little bit to catch up,finally watched that finale but let me,tell you um and i do want to give a,shout out to everyone on youtube who has, been doing this, episode by episode like a movie files, you guys have done an excellent job ive, tuned in a lot of your videos,it was fun to kind of sit back for once, and um,just enjoy it for what it is and of,course i had to review it eventually all, right, you guys the best thanks so much for, watching and ill see
MARE OF EASTTOWN Ending Explained | Episode 7 Breakdown And Full Series Review
okay so mayor of east town has been a,really gripping murder mystery thats, had some big twists and turns in it,episode 7 of season 1 has just dropped, and in this video were going to be,recapping the plot, explaining its ending and giving our, thoughts on the show as a whole,if you enjoy the video then please smash, the thumbs up button and dont forget to,subscribe for breakdowns like this each, and every day, without the way welcome to the heavy, spoilers show im your host paul, aka the guy who doesnt cry over spilt, milk thats been thrown through his, living room window, now lets get into mayor of east town, okay so mayor of east town has centered, around the mystery of who killed aaron, mcmenamin, all the men are in suspicion and its,led to several of them being under the, glare of our mayor, played by kate winslet years ago miss, lady hawk was a bit of a hero in the, town, but since then her reputation has, started to fall and shes now,not regarded as hailey several years ago, meis son took his own life, and since then shes lived with her, mother helen played by jean smart, throughout the season mel losing her, child has been reflected in several of,the other characters, namely dawn bailey whose daughter katie, had been kidnapped,at one point she admitted that she had, lost her daughter the drug several years, before she was taken, and this series in some ways is very, much about mare trying to right the, wrongs of the past,so others have spared her pain meres, daughter also lives with her,as well as her grandson who was, entrusted to her due to his mothers, drug addiction, however she was back on the road to,recovery wanting to gain full custody, and after mare planted drugs in a car,and got caught, she was let go from the case mayor took, things into her own hands, leading to a big revelation after, teaming up with colin zabal played by,evan peters, the pair managed to track down a man, that had been abducting women in the, area, colin caught some quicksilver and it led,to him being one of the most tragic, characters in the entire show, colin was a prodigy detective who we,discovered didnt actually solve the, case he was famous for,and though he and mayor went on a date,it was purely so she could stay close to,the case, mail like colin was very much someone, who had fame overshadowing their current, work and it led to her wrestling with, the pressure of living up to her past, colin still ended up a boner in the end,and the show has used several elements, like this to paint out its dour and, depressing tone, the entirety of east town is just a,miserable location, and people are willing to ruin their, relationships to get away from it,its one of the grimiest settings ive, ever seen in a tv show, and the place could genuinely be,improved by pennywise, however what it does provide is a,gripping show and though colin and man, managed to discover, the man who had abducted katie it was, revealed that he had an alibi for the, night that eren was murdered, mayor was put back on the case and the, prime suspects lined up with deacon mark, admitting to being with her the night, she was killed,he also tried to hide her bike from the, police but in the end,he was vindicated aarons ex was also, put under the microscope,as his girlfriend brianna came forward, and told the police, that he was missing on the morning that, she died however it was a man named john, ross who looked to be behind the crime, now being made a mystery there are, several twists and turns, and johns brother billy was even, implicated in the crime, episode six culminated with mayor going, after the latter,as they took a fishing trip together but, there was something that showed things, werent as they seemed, and characters dylan and jess went to,chief carter who was overseeing the case, they presented a photograph of aaron in,bed with john and we discovered that he,was actually the father of her child, episode 7 opened with may stumbling, across jon pointing a gun at his brother, and after apprehending him he confessed,to it all,jon stated that he was aarons secret, lover met her that night, and they fought over a gun which went, off and killed hit in the process,it all seemed to be tied up in a nice, little bow but as we know from mayor of,east town, nothing is as clean cut as it seems, looking back at the series as a whole, there are reoccurring themes in the show, that are repeated in several of the, characters,we very much get the feeling of guilt in,most of the parents, who feel they werent really there for, their children mayor believes her son, ended his own life because she focused,on her work instead of him, dawn lost katie to drugs and was, desperate to get her back when she went, missing, and johns confession feels along the, same lines, the entire series is pretty much about, family and what people are willing to do,for the ones that they love whether its, money or living a lie, they will sacrifice what they can in,order to make it so that their kids are, protected, how they blame themselves for the fate,of their children is of course reflected,in dawn blaming herself for katie going, missing, john and laurie for what well talk, about later and mayor first son taking, his own life, theres even dylan who though not, related to aarons child dj,still feels like he has to be there for,him and theres this constant repetition, throughout every character they very, much live lies and hold on to hope, and as mere states they must learn to,live with the unacceptable, well talk about this later on in the, video but its a very important idea to,deal with, john is sent to jail and at the, courthouse he asks his wife laurie if,she will raise dj,laurie has very much been a tragic, character in the series and she has lied,at several points to mare in order to,cover for her family,by the end of the episode her entire, life is ripped apart and between her and, mare theres definitely a feeling of,betrayal, she agrees to care for the child and, life starts to get, back to normal in east town also it,seems, deacon mark is freed and after mae says, she hopes the next place he goes to,treats him better,he states he has nowhere to go and that, east town is his home, mayor replies yep to this i think it,sums up how everyone is trapped within, the city, and though they know its possible to,have a life outside of it they dont, want to risk, losing what they have they also hope, that life will improve there, and theres daughter states that her, mother secretly loves it there, because she believes she can make life, better in the town now we do see some of,these glimmers of hope when katie is,given a new home, and dj gets the ear surgery he needs, though we can see, lori is fighting through it now i dont, know if its because the show has been a,constant kick in the balls,or because there was some dust in the, room but there may have,i said may have been a tear rolling down,my cheek during this, however its not all sunshine and, rainbows and carrie relapses and ends up,going back to rehab, leaving her son in maes care its a,bittersweet win for the latter, and she ends up parting ways with, richard played by guy pierce, hes moving to a town over and though, they say theyll keep in touch,we know deep down that theyll both, drift apart it seems like things are as,happy as theyll get,but something keeps itching away about, the case to mare, not only does she doubt the ballistics, her ex-husband also says that jon, dropped him off on the night of the, murder, and we learned that he wasnt having an,affair at the time that we were told he,was, after visiting mr carroll things start,to become clear, after he states hes been noticing, things have been moving about his, property, this includes an eagle championship mug,the worlds best pizza slicer, and a gun that matches the make and, model of the one that was used on eren,we discover this was kept in a shed, thats been a big focal point in the, series, and discover that there are two rounds, missing only he and another character, had access to it,and after mayor checks the cctv we see, that this is laurie and johns son ryan, she goes to

Mare of Easttown: Kate Winslet Talks Crafting the Emotional Bar Scene with Evan Peters
in his shot glass, that he drinks on camera, there was apple cider vinegar, which made him have that,[Music],that reaction and thats a very smart, idea ive never come up with that myself, thats a good one im definitely going,to steal that for sure since memory can, only take you so far and i find that um,when you take a shot of water its like, immediately you take the shot of water, and youre like im in a scene,so so it really helps to,to sort of give you a little bit of,something to to feel that burn and and,to um you know ignite you and and kind,of,kind of keep you going,[Music],hi im kate winslet and this is,varietys making a scene,i was executive producer and played the, lead role of mayor in mayor of east town,im evan peters i play detective collins, able brad ingles be here the writer and, craig zobel uh director of mayor of east, town and we are here to talk about, the scene in the bar with mayor, and a very drunk zabel, well how do you do their partner, how are you hey what are you doing here, hey, drinking, keith cunningham the production designer, had found this very interesting bar that,i was pretty excited about um,that had kind of a unique shape to it,and it it allowed for,us to put cameras very far away but on,on kind of long lenses which i felt, would help at least for the beginning of,the scene when its just mayor by,herself to sort of isolate her as kind,of the person not moving in this like, big space thats like filled with you, know people kind of having a different, night than she is it was quite a crowded, space i remember that and its,it was in a real bar that i have to be,honest like,it smelled like 10 bars in one so it was, quite an uncomfortable set to be on um,it was very dark,it was the middle of the day so wed, step outside and it would be 11 in the, morning and its that awful moment of oh,my god brightly and so this scene is so,important because its the, first time we see,a deeper side of his able where he opens,up in a way outside of just details of,the case procedural elements and, conversations he has with mayor about, the case itself get her a,15-year high score unit over tonight, because, its uh really high readers class of 05.,what are you doing what about you whats, going on im just trying to drink away a,bad thought zabel, was scripted as being, much more confident and flirtatious with, mayor, and actually evan, was he was just brilliant he said this, doesnt fit it doesnt feel it doesnt, feel right i dont think zabal has, enough confidence to really you know put, himself out there and kind of,woo this woman it started out with a,kiss song playing and i was singing, along tonight with my friends and, shooting pool and i do this like amazing, trick shot and like i was you know, working with a pool professional and and, trying to learn all these shots and then, and then craig was just like i dont, know if we should i was like it doesnt, really match our guy the wheels have, come off hes hes,had way too much to drink, cant control himself is loose of tongue, and, talks about his past in this very, fragile, vulnerable way its pretty awful,my ex was there,almost,ex-wife,she called on two weeks before the, wedding, evans performance,we very quickly were i very quickly saw, like this is what its really like being, drunk and sort of lost that i think, weve all had in our life at one point,or another somehow he knew exactly kind,of like how to ring that bell you know, over and over again in a movie set in a,way that i was just really impressed, with his skill as an actor i woke up one, morning and she goes, nope, not in love with you anymore, okay,it was really an opportunity to show,to show that there was something, off about this guy you know he didnt, have everything together he was he was a,little bit um floundering and and, drinking to sort of,uh,block some stuff out you know and and to,me it was you know this whole, arc is about living with this lie after, reunion after disappointment its, returning to him and i think thats i,think that i i i would say in in my,experience is pretty normal you know, its not every moment of every day, youre haunted by the lie but in certain, moments and quiet moments alone moments,it comes back to you,am i making any [ __ ] sense,i always imagined id be a cop so life, around me i didnt expect to fall apart,so spectacularly, mayor made the shot but where shes been,an imposter is by trying to put up a,front in the community of having it all, together and and we drop into her life,at this exact moment where shes not, able to,shes not able to continue that anymore, you know the illusion is is is,evaporating and its because her son, died shes divorced and now,you know the community that embraced her,as a as a kid really is turning on her, over katies case and now its, compounded by aarons case mayors story,um is so completely different to whats, going on for zabel you know shes, sitting there with two bags of heroin, burning a hole in her pocket and trying,to get that balance right between, slightly wanting the audience to think, maybe is she gonna actually take the, drugs herself finding that balance and, playing, completely level not giving too much, away, yeah there was a lot to juggle in that, scene, why you were a good mother,no,no i wasnt, committing to playing a character who, doesnt get things right all the time, and who can sometimes be completely, diabolical in terms of how she behaves, you know its a step its a step you, take, you have to somehow, make the character real enough and, redeemable enough and relatable enough, that the audience will forgive, her hopefully,i dont know if i want to go back with, them,i think hed rather stay here with you,i think it just comes out of him and and,and in the show you know the scene when, the way that kate looks at me i mean it,just like it just hit me i mean shes, just beautiful in the way that she looks,is it it was really really something to,to see her to look back at me like that, mayor was just the key of this whole, thing that she was powerful and almost, amused in a way to to to get him out of,his, funk to be a better detective a better, person move out of your moms house, theres been that annoying drunk person, herself, multiple times in her life, its just like you know meh theres, nothing she hasnt done and theres, nothing she hasnt seen,so it just doesnt face her and i loved, that about the way that scene was, scripted evan was able to i mean, obviously hes incredible in the scene, but just some of the lines he came up,with on his own the bagel line was, evans line which i think is one of the, most memorable lines in the series, really where, you know we had written in the script,i woke up one morning and she said nope, not in love with you but then evan added, wait what let me put my bagel down it,added that detail that took it from, being its a pretty its a decent line, into something really memorable even in,the most tragic, messed up crazy moments theres at least, you know something funny will happen, some all fired or someone will drop, something you know you just you cant, help but continue to laugh and try to,get through it and and maintain some, sort of semblance of uh,you know normalcy, god love evan he was so,nervous i think he was so in his, character and,and so kind of like in the moment that i,i dont think he was able to be,metering that on his own and um and so,you know he came to me and was like, hugging me afterwards being like i dont, think i got it i i think i you know i,think i we missed it and i was like, trust me we we got it it works hes like,no i think we got it and im like i,gotta shadow you man im terrible i suck,i dont know whats going on here i,cant do it and i think looking back at,it now it was really me tapping into, this feeling of of all these, missed opportunities you know, failing of missing the mark of oh i,didnt get it and there was an,opportunity and and this was such a,i mean im working with kate winslow i,was like oh my god like this is such a,huge opportunity and i want to i want to,do this right and i just kept saying to,him just stop
Mare of Easttown Ending Explained | Episode 7 Series Finale Breakdown
send available cars to the area,a suspect is wanted in a murder, investigation, hey guys pete here this is my mayor of,east town, ending explained video we got a big, twist, which means i guessed wrong about a lot,of things, and we pretty much got answers to,everything all the major stuff anyway,no crucial questions left unanswered but,a little bit of lingering mystery, ill break down everything that happened, what the ending means, and at the end of the video ill talk, about what worked for me and what didnt, really quick spoiler warning if you, havent watched the entire mayor of east, town limited series all seven episodes, then this video wont be for you,and with that out of the way lets jump, right into it,with about 10 minutes remaining in the, finale of mayor of east town, her therapist reminds mare that she, throws herself, into cases as a way of delaying her own, grief about what happened to her son, kevin thats followed by the question do,you think youre ready now to face what, youre avoiding, ill circle back around to explain the, setup for how we got there, but this is the core of what drives the, series its got a main character who, peaked early, finds herself in a position of relative, small town, power shes not just a cop but a,detective, whos also kind of stuck where shes at,and she cant confront her grief, and its real to be sure her son, struggles with mental illness, drug addiction and his eventual suicide, its a lot to carry when you cant, forgive yourself, mayers inability to move past it is,understandable, and at the same time we see how not, confronting that grief affects her life, and everyone around her,the big question is whether or not she,can confront her past and move on,we start out with answers about what, jess and dylan were up to,it turns out that burning the journals, was jesss idea, she was trying to keep aaron secret, about djs real father from, coming out and in her own words she was, just trying to honor her friend, dylan went along with this because he,cared for dj but also knew that his, parents wanted to continue to raise the, child, and that it would break their hearts if,he was taken away from them, jess changed her mind and we learned, that the photos she gave to the chief as,proof,is a shot aaron took of herself in bed, with her cousin john, ross whos next to her asleep this is,confirmation that john was the father, and the chief confirms the motivations, for why jess and dylan did what they did, this concludes the jess and dylan story, except for a scene later that confirms, dylans feelings for dj,he visits lauries house after hearing, about the surgery, and gives her money hed been saving, including the envelope he found in,aarons room,at the river we see that jon is,struggling with his plan to kill his, brother, billy had agreed to confess to aarons, murder but jon doesnt think that he can, trust him to hold up under questioning,at this point its hard to figure out,why billy would go along with it in the, first place, billy understood that he brought the gun,and suspected that he might be trying to,kill him,and when he learns that that is jons, plan he encourages him to do it that, hed be doing him a favor, and we get the idea that jon convinced, his brother by telling him that he had a,family to look after while billy had no,one,he cant go through with it though and, when mayor arrives he turns the gun on,himself, billy jumps on him stops him from taking, his own life and as mares cuffing him, john begs mare to just end his life, rather than taking him in,theres no need to look too closely at,what jon confessed to about the night of,the murder since we know that he wasnt, telling the truth,he does confirm that their relationship, and i say that with heavy air quotes, started at the reunion,he is remorseless about that and goes on,to tell them how he justified what he,was doing, saying that it was more than sex and, that they had a connection, and they could confide in each other and, blah blah blah, the kind of things you would expect, someone like that to say,if they found themselves in that kind of,situation, the other important thing that comes out,of this is that mayor asks if laurie, knew, and he says that he convinced her to lie,to her for him to tell her,it was billy that killed aaron later we,see john being arraigned, and he has a moment to talk to his wife, outside the courtroom,he asks her to take dj in and raise him,she doesnt say anything here but does, end up taking this on later, and after he leaves we see her and mayor, exchange a tense look, when she comes home helen asked if she, talked to laurie, and we learned that mares pissed off, that she obstructed the investigation, and at this point the tension comes from, her thinking it was all to protect john, she has a heart to heart with siobhan, about going to berkeley,at first she just says its her life she,can do what she wants but then when, shes pressed, she tells her she thinks she should go,they have a moment here, and that pretty much wraps up the, siobhan story but we do see her leave, towards the end of the episode, and how hard it is for everyone to say, goodbye, after jons arrest time moves on and, several of the other plot points are, wrapped up,we see that dawn and beth helped katie, and kenzie,by giving them freddies house i guess, that makes more sense than his family, moving back in where he died,we see that laurie finally gets poor, little dj his ear, surgery and in the process see that the,dj stands for dylan john, the custody dispute over drew comes to,an end when carrie relapses, mare and frank are waiting at the, mediators whenever she gets a call, mayor has a conversation with her as,shes getting ready to leave for the, treatment facility, things start to unravel with the case, when the family are all out together, with frank and faye, helen asked frank if hes talked to john,he says that he hasnt, and he talks about how he cant believe, john did what he did and he still took, them home, acting like nothing happened on the, night that aaron died, theres one of those family generational, moments, when we see helen mayer and siobhan, talking, helen breaks down crying after they talk, about mares childhood, and how she took out a lot of her own, frustrations on her daughter, mares noticeably uncomfortable but says, that she forgives her,and helen says thats what she really, wants for mare to be able to forgive, herself, about kevin because it wasnt her fault, thats one of those truths that you can, think, that you can hear someone else say that, you can intellectually know,is true but accepting it is a whole, different ballgame, and this is a major point that the, shows trying to make mare may know this, but she hasnt been able to forgive, herself she goes to the bathroom and, runs into sandra,in their conversation she learns that, jon wasnt, actually having an affair with her this, time and that makes her think more about, jons story,so we see her go back and start watching, the tape listening to him talk about, not being able to remember what kind of,gun aaron had, while shes doing that we learn about, billy rosss fate, when the chief comes and tells her that, because he cooperated, hell be eligible for parole the next, year frank is able to move on,he repaired his relationship with faye, and everyone attended their wedding, and there is a conclusion to richards, storyline we see that mare and him get, together, things look pretty good but he had, already accepted a different, job so hes going away for a one-year,contract,and in the end he was just a nice guy, that came to town and fell for mayor,i suppose his leaving is essential in,mares journey she needs to move on,and the way its set up hes not a,necessary ingredient,in that recipe the big reveal the big, ending comes by the way of us going back,to where we started, mares in bed and she gets a call from, betty carrolls number, and thats odd because bettys now dead,of course its her husband, glenn and luckily his eagles mugged from, the championship, game and that really nice pizza cutter,he had went missing, also something strange happened wi
Mare of Easttown | Finale Review Spoilers
hello everybody and welcome back to,another episode of nerd soup i am aaron, the nerd super monkey along here with bo,oliver here to discuss the latest hbo, mini mayor of east town mayor mayor,i like saying her name a lot and this is,a show i think gained a lot of,popularity as it was going because, like with a lot of these mysteries and, these detective type shows the intrigue, just builds week to week, and obviously the mystery was there but,i think the show really, excelled with its characters and kind of,going deeper into these characters, especially with the mare character and, kate winslet, absolutely fantastic uh we havent seen, what else is coming out this year but,i mean this episode if you didnt think, before i think sealed the deal for her,and me yeah maybe definitely and it just, sealed the deal for the show being a hit, yeah that it it stuck the landing going, into it i was frustrated by episode one,i thought to myself this is the most hbo, show ever i feel like ive seen this, show already i know these characters i,know the setting, the way that it was shot yeah but i,think the show did a great job of,of breaking those tropes and also, subverting some of the expectations for, these characters like you said, the mystery was great but what brings, the show together is the community the, realism and,the interactions between these, characters the relationships the, parallels, easttown is its basically its own, character right definitely and the, central focus,is mayor so appropriate title right, mayor of east town the title really does, matter here and, youre introduced to her shes a,character thats kind of being backed, into a corner by so many different, aspects of her life, her job the cases that shes unable to,solve her life her personal life kind of,falling apart around her and like the, priest says at the in the final episode, its about her kind of just trying to,fight back into the circle,by any means necessary and at times she, makes choices that, can be seen as criminal or as abusive um,shes not a perfect character and thats, why it was it was so,perfectly casted with kate winslet to,bring this character to life i mean i,was drawn to this character right away, once you put cheez whiz on a,cheese ball im like yeah i got and that, was a suggestion by kate winslet if you, watch that uh,i dont know why i changed her name, there at the end but she was saying hey, maybe you know this character would, like to eat more junk food in these, moments, yeah but to dive into her depression too, obviously she has that tough exterior, and then as the episodes progress and we,find out what happened to her son and,all the trauma shes carrying with her,day in and day out,i mean the performance was fantastic it,was very subtle at times but,in the therapy sessions and when she, finally lets it out,its it really brings that character to,life in a way that,i think very few actors can and kate, winslet nailed it talking about another, character julian nicholson as lori that, final final scene uh that final episode, the whole episode but those scenes in,the car and at her home, were some of the more real scenes that i,have seen and thats what really made, the show great in my opinion and,i mean the whole final episode too i,think was it was one of those things, where everything happened,so early on that you knew there was more, well see thats another thing where, these hbo shows they always do that they, wrap up the mystery early in the episode, and the finale and then the rest of the, finale is tying up loose lens its its, like an epilogue, yes but no they the mystery goes even, further its,its the [ __ ] kid i figured that out,i was like whoa,im not upset that i figured it out, because i think it was fairly easy to,telegraph once you realize that, there were certain things werent adding,up and how it wrapped up so quickly and,the only person that, that john would cover for that would, make sense would be his son,and right but they the way they explored,it i wasnt upset that i figured it out,you know it wasnt like i dont think oh,its predictable or anything like that,i think how they went into that and how,it all came together, and the characters reactions to this, revelation was really, the driving point that uh exceeded the, mystery in my eyes, yeah yeah its everything thats, surrounding it its how these characters, react its,its how they show sympathy towards, characters who are put in these, situations like i said with, you know such genuine and pure, expressions of emotion, and with mayor being able to come to and, underst not well, with mayor being able to understand what, her friend lori,is going through you know in many ways, its like she lost her son as well like, mayor so she could be,she can relate to that but dude thats, tough just to hold her,to comfort her in these moments not, everything is going to be okay but in,this moment at least, you know that theres someone there for,you and i think that even going to the, last scene,of the finale for her to finally, confront the trauma that she was holding,so deep inside of her throughout this, series and for the past couple of years, since her son died it was,a beautiful ending that not everything,is going to be fixed by this but,its a step its a step in the right, direction and a lot of these characters, where they where they are left off they, have to continue taking those steps,i mean its still such a beautifully, and in ways tragic ending as well yeah, very bittersweet, especially when you think of when you, think of the mayor character and her, development throughout the season its a,good ending for her she seems free, but for laurie its just beginning right, yeah and, thats kind of the tragedy of this show, and even getting to that point once they, booked john for killing aaron, and kind of just the tone of the show, was a little bit more bright and, optimistic uh feel around all these, characters, especially mayor and for that just to,turn in an instant when she comes to the, revelation that when she comes to the, realization that,it was ryan who did it and just all that, coming back down it was,the way they play with that i thought, was very well done but yeah, for her to even come out on the other, side and have the strength to go back to,where her son killed herself i thought, really put a strong wrap on her story, yeah i mean you gotta induct her into, the hbo main character hall of fame, after this run,she really is one of my one of my,favorite characters not for just hbo, shows but,in general and also detectives able,up until his untimely death which was, very shocking that may,may have been the most shocking not, twist but moment of the show,i thought he was going to come in and be,the hot shot detective try and take over, this case but they broke that trope, entirely its just a good guy, yeah and like many other characters in,this show he hes got his,his past demons that he deals with in,his own way and unfortunately he does, you know hes a character who dies, tragically,um but i i love the relationship between, those two the platonic, kind of teetering into romantic at times, and also her relationship with the guy, pierce character again,i thought this you know its a trope, that weve seen before, the morally gray complex lead thats, kind of,brought down to earth by a new love, interest um,and i i thought his character was great,he i cant imagine the game that he,picks up at pta meetings, the dude is just a silver fox devil, right, jeez guy pierce man hes married to,melisandre so,what a life but yeah the the loops of,this show, like you said whens uh mayors, character kind of comes to,the end of her arc but for a character, like lori its just beginning and you,see that throughout with um,you know kevin having a child at a young, age and aaron mcminiman having a child,at a young age,you know just by chance last night i,watched you only live once henry fonda, old movie from the 30s and there was a,great line about, how all men are born with the nobility,of a king, until the stain of life denies them of,their birthright, and you s
