2021 Mazda CX-30 review – best family SUV yet? | What Car?

this is the mazda CX 30 and if youre,familiar with masters lineup then this,new SUVs name might be a bit confusing,Mazda has already got the CX 3 and a,cx-5 this cx30 sits in the middle of,those two cars and its not the CX 4,because Mazda had already nabbed that,name for another model in China and,right now you can save more than 1400,pounds on the CX 30 by going to work on,and before we start the rest of this,review by telling you everything about,this car make sure you subscribe to our,channel because weve got loads of new,car reviews going live every week the,master cx30 is a rival two SUVs like the,Skoda karach and a say attacker but the,pricier versions of it also get pretty,close to the Volvo XC 40 now the car,itself is actually based on the new,Mazda 3 hatchback but in fact its been,made to be slightly shorter and the,first thing you notice when you get in,the car is that this really doesnt feel,like an SUV so you dont sit noticeably,high off the ground in fact it feels no,higher than just the normal hatchback,but if that isnt such a problem for you,then there are lots of things to like in,the CX thirties interior to start with,plenty of adjustment in the steering,wheel and the steering wheel itself,feels really nice its not awkwardly,chunky and big and its not too skinny,it is just right feels like really nice,material around it as well and the seat,also has loads of adjustment too youve,even got the option of lifting up the,front of it to support your thighs but,you cant get adjustable lumbar support,on the trims below the top two ones,these front pillars could be a little,thinner they can sometimes get in the,way of your view when youre trying to,pull out with junctions but the view,over the shoulder towards the back is,okay but youve got pretty small rear,windows and also the rear screen itself,is pretty small as well so its not a,patch on the nice large glass area that,you get in the Skoda karach but its,still not awful either and also you get,front and rear parking sensors and a,reversing camera is standard and you can,also get one of those birds-eye view,360 degree cameras too another good,thing about the driving position is that,you get a part did you,to drive a display now its not fully,digital so it doesnt show you the,breadth of information and its not,quite as customizable as that in the,sayit and Skoda SUVs but its still very,crisp very clear and you also get a,head-up display as standard on every,model but where the cx30 really stands,out against every rival you can put it,up against is the build quality in here,because its excellent,so all these materials on the dash are,incredibly plush feel really nice solid,durable and all the buttons have a real,good feel of quality to them as well and,you can also get this nice kind of,two-tone leather effect on the dashboard,too and you can also have a nice bright,leather interior for your seats too so,the quality in here is excellent youve,got to jump up to cars like the BMW x1,and the Volvo X and 40 to get close to,what the cx30 offers another area where,the cx30 stands out from its rivals,inside is with its infotainment because,its got this 8.8 inch screen which is,recessed into the dashboard and,centrally mounted here but its just a,screen its not a touchscreen because,instead its got this rotary dial down,here with some shortcut buttons around,it and you can only use this and the,shortcut buttons on the steering wheel,to control it Mazda has decided not to,use a touchscreen because it says that,its too distracting to use on the move,and you cant really argue with that can,you now do not despair at all that this,isnt a touchscreen because its,incredibly simple to use very responsive,just as responsive as the other systems,available in say Skoda SUVs as well and,these shortcut buttons are very,intuitive its got a simple menu layout,and really its just great to use plus,dont forget it comes with apple carplay,and android auto as well as a DAV radio,and bluetooth which of course youre,coming to expect now now a space up,front is pretty good even with this,panoramic sunroof fitted theres plenty,of headroom,and as weve said loads of adjustment in,its driving position even if youve got,long legs youre gonna be fine up front,it also feels like a relatively wide,interior and for storage youve got this,slidable,armrest here which is actually very well,placed I must say and when you slide it,back you can see underneath here youve,got this storage compartment with a USB,port and further up on the centre,console,than here a couple of cup holders which,are very neatly disguised with this lid,when its closed and a head of that a,very handy tray we can chunk your keys,as with the glovebox,pretty good size nothing particularly,special but generally hugely impressive,up front in the cx30 but in the back,things arent so good and it starts with,the doors because if you look they dont,actually that big and they dont open,that wide either so getting in is a bit,more of a struggle than it is in other,SUVs and then when you are here the,legroom isnt as good as a Skoda karach,or a set attacker especially fuel behind,a tool driver obviously but there is an,okay amount of room for your feet under,the seat in front Headroom is alright,too,but generally a gives you a far,greater sense of airiness in the back,especially because if you can see these,windows are pretty small here in the,back of a CX 32 so it just doesnt,really feel very spacious and you also,only have a 60/40 split-folding rear,seats whereas a croc gets 40/20/40 split,folding seats you also cant fold those,rear seats from the boot but the space,you do get is more than you will in a,Volkswagen Golf or any other hatchback,of a similar size but by family SUV,standards this is below average its,around the same as in this on cash code,but smaller than the say attacker and,karach you dont have a two-level boot,floor either but an electric tailgate is,standard on all but the entry level trim,lower trim levels of the master cx30,apprised pretty much in line with the,equivalent versions of a Skoda corrupt,but as you go up the trim levels then,you get closer to other versions of the,Polo X and 14 so in other words this can,be an expensive car but to save more,than 1,400 pounds on one right now go to,what caro-kann official emissions,figures are decent and as for the fuel,economy we managed 37.6 miles per gallon,from the skyactiv-g during our testing,not quite matching official figures,Mazda has a pretty good reliability,record and every cx30 comes with a,three-year or 60,000 mile warranty which,is the same offered by Audi say at Skoda,and Volkswagen in urine cap safety tests,the cx30 was found to afford outstanding,protection to the driver and front seat,and achieved an excellent 99 percent,score for adult occupant protection this,helped it towards receiving five stars,the organizations top rating the cx30,comes with automatic emergency braking,blind spot monitoring lane departure,warning with Lane Keeping assistance a,rear cross-traffic alert system to warn,traffic in your port on reversing into a,road and a driver attention alert system,as standard thats more standard safety,equipment that many competitors can,muster now there are a few problems with,the master cx30 on the road well start,with the engines because were used to,this in every other master it offers,naturally aspirated engines rather than,turbocharged engines which many of its,rivals have and the downside of that is,that it just doesnt offer low rev in,gear flexibility that you get in the,karach and in the attacker so it means,these engines can feel a bit weedy now,there are two available and of them,its the skyactiv-g 2-liter which is the,better one to recommend because it gets,120 brake horsepower and the SKYACTIV X,gets 170 80 brake horsepower and it,actually gets lower co2 emissions but,its so much more expensive and you need,to be working it pretty hard to notice,that extra pace that it

TRAVIS LANGNESS: The Mazda CX-30 caught our interest,when it debuted in 2020.,It falls between extra small SUVs like CX-3,and compact SUVs like the CX-5.,Yes, the similarity in names is a bit confusing,,but thats besides the point.,We generally like the way Mazdas look,and how they drive so we were curious to see,how the CX-30 would stand up to a year long test,from our diverse staff, where we treat vehicles,like normal shoppers.,While we usually like to purchase long-term test,vehicles for evaluation, the cost of running a full fleet,prevents us from doing so.,So from time to time well borrow vehicles,for the purposes of evaluation, and thats what we did here.,We received this CX-30 in September 2020.,And now, at the time of this recording,,weve got about 15,000 miles on $20,000 range,,our premium package with all-wheel drive,totaled about $32,000.,Our CX-30 has the 2.5 liter four-cylinder engine,with 186 horses.,Thats a lot of power for an SUV of this size.,And its something we loved when we tested a CX-30,with that engine separately.,It went 0 to 60 roughly two seconds faster.,As for the rest of our CX-30, its slightly firmer ride,means you definitely notice bumps and ruts,but the firmness also gives you a sensation of sharp handling.,A trade-off that more than a few of our editors,were happy to make.,The smallish cabin because of the overall smaller size,was a debate amongst the taller people on our staff.,One staffer, whos just a touch over six feet,,said they were 50-50 on the interior space,and they wondered if they could live with it on a daily basis.,They loved the sunroof, but they didnt,like that their hair was brushing that roof every day.,So taller people or those with longer torsos, that,might be something to keep in mind.,Lets keep talking about space because its important,when you consider that an SUV of this size,needs to fit a family.,We found the CX-30 had a decent amount,of cargo space for daily errands,,stuff like a hike, grocery bags, or a couple of pieces,of carry-on luggage.,But if you surf, anything like the board or something,that long would take up a lot of the interior.,The parents on our staff with more than one child,found situations where they wanted a bigger SUV.,This is going to be the way things fall for all SUVs,in this category, not necessarily,this Mazda in particular.,But its worth noting.,Weve also had some debate on the infotainment controls.,Unlike most modern cars, you dont get a touch screen.,Instead you have this rotary controller for all functions,,including phone projection like Apple CarPlay.,Some on our staff preferred this setup and others,think its a deal breaker.,You want to spend some time playing with it,and remember theres a learning curve before you decide.,[MUSIC PLAYING],There were two recall campaigns for this model year CX-30,and our car was subject to one of them.,The problem was a power liftgate that may slowly,lower slightly when open and parked on an incline,and theres a chance someone could bump their head into it.,[MUSIC PLAYING],Mazdas maximum service interval is 10,000 miles or 12 months,,whichever comes first.,Or 5,000 miles or six months for severe use,like in hot or cold climates or in extremely heavy city use.,While this kind of maintenance is stuff you can generally,do at home if youre mechanically inclined,,we like to stick with dealership service departments,to mimic the ownership experience,of a regular customer.,And it was fine.,No issues at all.,[MUSIC PLAYING],How about reliability?,We had a broken windshield but thats not the cars fault.,The CX-30 was flawless, just as it should be.,[MUSIC PLAYING],While we usually like to have around 20,000 miles,on our long-term test cars by this point,,it was a pandemic year and all, so we didnt get there.,In this case, we got close to 16,000 miles,,which is still enough to get a decent read on fuel economy.,We averaged just shy of 26 MPG.,We didnt quite match the combined rating of 27 MPG,,but we did more city driving than usual over the last year.,So that checks out.,[MUSIC PLAYING],Whats our CX-30 worth now?,The only way to know for sure is by selling it.,Using the Edmunds appraisal tool helps,us get a value for our specific trim level, the options,,mileage, condition, and location.,After tallying it all up for our region,and calculating based on our mileage,,our values are around 26 grand for a private party sale,and 24 grand for a trade-in.,Thats pretty dang good considering the roughly $32,000,starting price.,But remember, were the mazda cx-30 is a kind of,hatchback come suv designed to plug the,gap between the brand cx-3,and cx-5 models its effectively a mazda,3 on stilts but we really like that car,here at car buyers so,perhaps thats not such a bad thing will,um pick the good,the bad and the ugly in this video,review but before we do make sure you,like this video,subscribe to the car by youtube channel,and hit the bell icon so you never,miss a video,[Music],now its not often we start with what a,car is like to drive but this like many,mazdas,is one of the best cars in its class,from behind the wheel its perhaps not,quite as sharp,as the mazda 3 but its not far off,take this six-speed manual gearbox for,example,many buyers in this area of the market,probably are looking at automatics but,unless you really need one we wouldnt,bother its just so sweet,it reminds me a little bit of driving an,mx-5 and theres not,many crossovers you can say thats about,its perhaps a little firm,for a car of this type but the trade-off,is engaging handling that puts it on par,with cars in the family hatchback class,let alone something with jacked up,suspension,and all-wheel drive,not all models are equipped as such,entry-level models are front-wheel drive,and those are the ones wed recommend,this isnt a car you take off-road so,the 4×4 system feels a little,unnecessary,okay it might give you some extra,confidence in grim weather but it adds,little to the driving experience the,rest of the time,while wed have no trouble recommending,those entry-level front-wheel drive,models,wed steer you clear of the skyactiv-g,120 horsepower entry-level,petrol engine in favor of this the,flagship 178 brake horsepower,skyactiv x mazda refuses to fit,turbochargers to its petrol engines,so i would have no qualms in pointing,you in the direction of one of the lower,powered,peugeot 3008 for example the punchier,cx30 is definitely the one to go for,its quiet but its just so much more,responsive than that entry-level engine,not 62 miles an hour takes eight and a,half seconds and it just feels,far more flexible and more adept at,quick overtakes if youre a high mileage,driver,unfortunately the diesel was dropped,shortly after launch,that lack of a diesel engine and no,plug-in hybrid on the horizon,will win at few fans in the company car,market,still if youre running one with your,own money theres plenty to recommend,this skyactiv x engine uses clever,technology to produce more power,with cleaner tailpipe emissions,resulting in figures of up to 47.9 mpg,and co2 emissions as low as 105 grams,per kilometer,for the front-wheel drive model with a,manual gearbox however its worth noting,that these can drop to a less impressive,40.4 mpg,with co2 of 128 grams per kilometer for,the four-wheel drive skyactiv-x model,with an automatic gearbox,if you want an electric monitor theres,the new mx30 a similarly sized crossover,model with a small battery and a,relatively modest 124 mile range,a range extender model with a plug-in,hybrid rotary engine is due in 2021,anyone whos sat in a new matter 3 will,find it very familiar in here its,pretty much a carbon copy in fact,but thats not a bad thing because,theres plenty to like about this,interior things like the chunky climate,controls theyre easy to adjust on the,move,and the big central speedo presents all,the information you need right in front,of your eyes,quality is really good in here with the,simple layout all controlled by this,click wheel,on the center console now from being,very picky,it does just feel a little bit monotone,in here things are lifted by these light,coloured seats but the dash,is a sea of dark materials the screen is,just a little bit narrow too which just,makes it feel,a little bit too far away the mazda,cx-30 is available in five different,trim levels,the basic sel is surprisingly good value,but you have to make do with dinky,16-inch alloy wheels,cloth seats and air conditioning instead,of climate control,all cars come with automatic led,headlights and parking sensors however,as well as a suite of the latest safety,kit speaking of which the mazda cx-30,remains one of the safest cars ever,tested by euro end cap,sel lux upgrades that air con system to,full climate control,and adds heated seats but wed probably,go for the sport lux spec,which brings tinted rear windows bigger,alloy wheels and adaptive headlights,that dip the cars full beam,automatically,you dont get leather seats though so if,thats a big deal for you gt sport cars,like ours get a bose stereo,and those all important cowl covered,seats,range topping gt sport tech features an,array of high active sense safety,features,such as a 360 degree camera system,take a seat in the back and youll,quickly discover one of the cx-30s,biggest,weak points now that sleek shape really,doesnt give it as much space back here,as some of its rivals like the volvo,xc40 both knee room and headroom are at,a premium,and if youre unlucky enough to have to,sit in the middle seat youll have to,contend with this,huge transmission tunnel which runs the,full length of the car,things arent quite as bad in the boot,the 430 liter capacity should be big,enough for most small families,the cx-30 cant match the 500 plus,liters offered by models like the skoda,karak,the mazda cx-30 prioritizes a sleek,shape and sharp handling over outright,practicality and low running costs,for what are the deal makers and the,deal breakers,the cx-30 has the sweet mx-5 roadster to,thank for some of its handling prowess,this is one of the best suvs to drive,while it might feel a little bit dark,inside quality is really very good,with a safe solid feel to the way the,controls operate,[Music],there should be a spec to suit all,budgets ranging from the entry level sel,to the range topping gt sport,tech,[Music],[Applause],theres no diesel and no plug-in hybrid,making this a tough sell for company car,drivers,if your budget will allow its worth,stepping up to the punchier petrol,its not the most spacious family suv,space in the back is at a premium and,rivals have bigger boots,theres plenty to like about the mazda,cx-30 but only really shines,in the driving department otherwise it,just doesnt really stand out,so yes its good to drive and it feels,well built but with a limited engine,choice and compromised practicality,an area shares the exact same,platform as the cx-30 now looking at the,mazda 3 and the cx-30 back-to-back its,not too difficult to see how the two,crossovers are related they do have a,very similar exterior and interior,design the major differences being that,the cx-30 does have a higher ride height,and it also has that black plastic,cladding around the wheel wells for a,more rugged crossover look not only do,they have a very similar design and,share the exact same platforms but they,also share the exact same drivetrains as,well,as is the case with the mazda3 as well,as the larger cx-5 crossover you can get,the cx-30 with either a 2.5 liter,4-cylinder engine or a 2.5 liter turbo,and in canada you can also get a base,model with a 2-liter 4-cylinder engine,as well now whats really nice about,this 2.5 liter 4-cylinder engine is the,fact that it does produce a lot more,power than you typically find in a lot,of these small crossover suvs it,produces 186 horsepower and 186,pound-feet of torque which gives it,plenty of performance for a small,crossover like this and because it is a,relatively large displacement engine too,it feels very smooth and quiet it,doesnt feel like its struggling for,power like some of these smaller 2-liter,engines that you find on other similar,crossovers but if for whatever reason,this engine is not enough power for you,you also have the option of a,turbocharged 2.5 liter engine that,produces 227 horsepower and 310,pound-feet of torque although this,engine is fine using regular you do get,a little bit more power if you use,premium but lets face it with todays,gas prices thats realistically not,going to happen for many buyers either,way 227 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of,torque is plenty for a small crossover,like this you just plant your foot down,end,yeah it takes off extremely well it,actually feels comparable to a lot of,small luxury suvs like say the bmw x1 or,the audi q3 which is quite impressive,so if you like the idea of a small suv,that gives you plenty of power theres,no question this is the one to have if,you look at other brands like subaru,honda and toyota their suvs have nowhere,near the same level of power the closest,thing would be the kia celtos or the,hyundai kona with the optional 1.6 turbo,engines but even those ones dont,produce as much power as the cx-30 turbo,having said that though even though the,cx-30 has great performance the one,thing that its not so great with is,fuel economy whether you go with the,naturally aspirated 2.5 liter engine or,the turbo engine the cx-30 is only able,to achieve between 23 to 30 miles per,gallon or roughly 9 to 12 liters per 100,kilometers which is a little bit,unimpressive for a small suv theres no,question if you go for something else,like the honda hr-v or the toyota crawl,across you are getting much better fuel,efficiency but then again i guess that,is the trade-off for having a much more,powerful larger displacement engine and,unfortunately mazda doesnt offer any,kind of a hybrid option either although,the cx30 might not be the most fuel,efficient small crossover that you can,buy i have to say that im more than,happy to trade a little bit of,efficiency in exchange for having the,simplicity and mechanical reliability,that you get with mazda unlike other,brands which not only use turbo engines,across the board but also cvt and dual,clutch transmissions mazda is one of the,few brands that not only has a naturally,aspirated engine but also a conventional,six-speed automatic transmission,although a trendy cvt or a dual clutch,transmission might be a little bit,better for efficiency you just cant,beat the reliability and the simplicity,of a conventional six-speed automatic,thats also the case with a naturally,aspirated engine although i do like the,optional turbo engine in the cx-30,having a turbo does add a lot of,complexity and also adds a lot of heat,and pressure to the engine which is,ultimately not great for its longevity,although admittedly mazda has had great,reliability with this 2.5 turbo a simple,naturally aspirated engine is always,best if youre the type of person likes,to buy and keep their cars for upwards,of 10 to 15 years,another area where mazda thinks about,reliability is the fact that they dont,bother with an annoying engine start,stop system like you find on most other,cars im really not a big fan of engine,start stop systems the way they shake,the whole car every time you stop at a,light and the way they also put more,wear on the engine and the starter so,the fact that mazda doesnt bother with,this feature is a huge bonus in my,opinion and that just goes to show that,mazda is a company that really cares,about its long-term reliability and,build quality which is something the,company is very good at mazdas are not,only known for their performance and,their reliability theyre also known for,delivering a very fun and sporty driving,experience too which is something the,cx-30 is certainly very good at theres,no question this is a great handling,crossover it feels very sharp and well,balanced with excellent body control,this is an suv that youd be happy to,toss around into corners and have a bit,of fun with which is something that you,couldnt save other similar small,crossovers from other brands and not,only is it a lot of fun to toss around,but its also fairly quiet and you also,get great ride quality too,in terms of the ride and handling,balance this is probably one of the best,small crossovers that you can buy which,is no surprise really because thats,something that mazda has always excelled,at another area where mazda really,excels is with its interiors,every time i get inside a new mazda im,always amazed at how luxurious and,upscale everything feels especially when,you compare it against other brands like,subaru and toyota which are nowhere near,at the same level,mazdas use of materials the quality of,the switch gear and just the overall fin,finish are really top notch,in addition to the really nice materials,and switch gear another luxurious touch,is the fact that mazda gives you a lot,of choices when it comes to the colors,of the interiors unlike most other car,brands which pretty much only give you a,black interior mazda gives you the,choice of a black interior a light tan,interior like my test car here or you,can even get a red leather interior,which is very nice,and not only is the interior of the,cx-30 surprisingly luxurious but its,also filled with a lot of great tech too,for example you get a really nice clear,digital gauge cluster plus a really,great infotainment system that comes,with both apple carplay and android auto,capability although you do need to,control it using a dial on the center,console as opposed to having touch,screen capability it is fairly,straightforward to use this is also a,v

the,rest of mazdas crossover lineup,it ditches the larger taller look of the,cx-5,and it really retains more of a car-like,silhouette its essentially,a mazda 3 on stilts its got very,familiar lines down the side and its,profile is like well more reminiscent of,a sportback,now back to the cx-30 the front clip,features led headlamps in a very,striking shape and you can see its very,recessed in here,adding a layer of depth and paired with,its huge grille it makes for a pretty,darn good looking front end and it,achieves this,through minimalism by not adding too,much angles and unnecessary thingamabobs,common on modern crossovers,whats not so minimal is the plastic,cladding on the side,there is just a bit too much here maybe,a darker color can help quote-unquote,hide it somehow because on the sole,crystal red which is a choice color,it really does stand out for better or,worse i guess the whole point of that is,to make it look a little bit more rugged,a little bit more capable which i do,understand,but to me mazdas are a bit more of an,elegant car and this,really doesnt look all that elegant it,doesnt look like a rough neck no lets,not go that far,but it does sit on 40 millimeters more,of ground clearance,than the mazda 3 which is ever so,apparent if you look at the wheel wheels,look at this,wow it also sits on 18s with 55 series,tires,now mazda never really gives its cars,radically designed wheels,but really doesnt have to i think the,finish and look of it really complements,the overall design perfectly,and however hidden theyre stopped by,disc brakes all around which look great,the back is as handsome as the front and,the shape is very unique with the hatch,pointing outward,and also has a little more curve than,the mazda 3. there are more leds found,here,and much like the front the shape of the,tail lamps are very aggressive,also just for an extra touch of premium,the throne signals all around,dont just blink here but they,gracefully fade out you know like donald,trump,now no bias here just truth but this has,got to be my favorite in terms of look,in this particular segment,what i would love to know is what do you,think whats your favorite could it be,the celtos,maybe the kona or perhaps something else,do let us know in the comments below,because this should be interesting,the cx-30 shares the same platform as,the mazda3 so it would go without saying,that it shares the exact same engine,which is a two liter skyactiv g mated to,a six-speed automatic transmission that,produces 153 horses and 200 newton,meters of torque,now in the city youre doing about nine,kilometers per liter light traffic,youre doing about 11 not,bad when that clears up you can actually,push to 14. now on the highway,you can do up to 17 kilometers per liter,now with all those figures combined,youre probably thinking yeah great,nothing spectacular but,hang on this is an all-wheel drive,system and that,is a gasoline engine so 11 kilometers,per liter in the city,is not bad at all the plushness and,quality many are accustomed to in a,mazda is found in the cx-30,the cabin is almost a carbon copy of the,mazda 3.,soft plush leather is found in every,seat front to back,the armrests are also very comfortable i,wouldnt expect any kind of soreness,from leaning on these for a long drive,especially the center console,man this things like a pillow up in,front is a real treat to the eyes and,hands as the dash just,seamlessly contours around the cabin,only broken by the screen that pops up,in the middle its huge,and although no one really pokes on the,dashboards mazda did an impressive job,to cover it with the soft touch material,and to be honest with you this interior,is so good it can even rival those of,dare i say german cars the steering,wheel,is very nice to the touch as well and,the buttons all have a great feel to,them,the same story goes for the rest of the,switches and dials found here,everything here has good weight and,tactility its evident that mazda really,put time and effort to make this cabin,feel,special speaking of dials the 8.8 inch,widescreen infotainment found here is,operated by this huge one found in the,center,so the operations of the system is all,done through here,this knob controls almost everything,which is actually,a good thing so mazda says see by doing,so without use the use of a touch screen,and you leaning forward,you have your concentration more on the,road it does,it does take some time to get used to,because youre used to fiddling it with,it like this,but its actually better for you after a,day or two its really not a problem at,all,the infotainment in the cx-30 has both,android auto and apple carplay,now both work with almost no fault the,screen is very sharp and has good,contrast,and the response from the system is,almost instantaneous we experience,close to no delays in input you can also,access various settings for the safety,systems and features of the cx-30 and,trust me there are,a lot you can adjust the collision,avoidance alert,turn on and off the lane keep assist,radar crews cross traffic alerts and,more and trust me i do mean more and to,top it all off it has the same bose,system we fell in love with when in the,mazda 3.,[Music],now with all of that youre probably,thinking its so darn good theres got,to be something wrong right theres just,gotta be,well there is one thing and that is the,space back here is really,not stellar no not at all sure the seats,are actually very comfortable you get a,center armrest with two cup holders you,got vents up front,but really the space is nothing,spectacular leg room,nothing great headroom also nothing,great dont even think about putting,three adults back here because the,center tunnel,man thats pretty high so really it does,have,one fault this this has got to be its,biggest problem or is it its,smallest problem i dont know im,confused,[Music],the cx-30 has a whole host of features,that come in handy for long trips down,expressways,you have radar crews which keeps you at,a safe distance from the car in front of,you,lane departure warning which alerts you,when there is a vehicle in your blind,spots and when changing lanes,and there is even a driver monitoring,which alerts you when the camera is down,here on the instrument cluster,notice fatigue or sleepiness now i could,go out and test it,yes thats true but im just gonna trust,mazdas word on this one,there is also another cool piece of tech,which is the heads-up display,which keeps you in check when you are,driving on the highway,if cruise control is not your thing and,trust me if cruise control is not your,thing,these paddles certainly are,now as for comfort in the cabin it is,thoroughly impressive about,how comfortable it is in here theres,barely any wind noise or tire noise that,creeps in and the ride,its its just so smooth coupled with,very comfortable seats going on a long,road trip in the cx-30,no problems whatsoever and there is also,over 500 liters of cargo space in the,back,which is actually more than the mazda 3,and that obviously more than doubles,when you fold the seats down,so you can pack more than enough luggage,and gear for two if say,youll go camping as you would since,mazda markets this car to be perfect for,individuals with,active lifestyles,now once youre out of the city and find,yourself on provincial roads,the cx-30 is more than capable of having,a little bit of fun in

whats going on youtube so mazda is in,the midst of a big brand revamp and one,of the first products in their move up,scale was this cx-30,this is their stylish and premium,subcompact crossover and after adding a,powerful turbo model last year is back,again with a new trim level and a few,upgrades,so is this the best in the segment or,should you consider buying this over a,mazda cx-5 lets go ahead and find out,[Music],[Music],so of course being a new product to the,mazda lineup does mean we have the,latest mazda design language,uh this is a very nice looking crossover,up here in the front youve got that,signature mazda grille like i was saying,now some of the lower trim levels they,do come with a matte finish on the,interior of this grille but the vast,majority of the trim levels will come,with this gloss black finish for this,mesh,this looks particularly good if you have,a contrasting color or if you want a,nice stealthy look like this one has,really looks nice as well,as you can see the chrome does come up,through here and this traces underneath,of our headlights which are standard,full led across the entire lineup now if,you choose a premium or a turbo model,thats going to throw in adaptive,abilities with these headlights and then,down below youre not going to find fog,lamps but you will find the separated,turn signal indicator which has this,cool fading in and out effect,as we come around here to the side,youre going to find,nice looking alloy wheels on pretty much,every single version of this cx-30 as a,matter of fact all but the base model,will come with 18 inch alloy wheels,of course you do have a couple different,finishes so we have the gloss black,finish because we have a turbo model,and also if you choose the brand new,carbon edition for 2022 that also is,going to have the gloss black finish on,these alloy wheels,and it will also have a gloss black,finish on these mirrors just like the,turbo model would even if we didnt have,this black now lets talk about some of,the features on board with the mirrors,you will notice we have the turn signal,indicator this also has the fading in,and out effect just like with the front,additionally youre going to find blind,spot monitoring on all with the base,model and starting on the carbon edition,is where youll have heating on board,now the cx-30 is a pretty compact,vehicle as you probably know by this,point as far as the overall length is,coming in at 173 inches overall which,does make this you know a decent size,for the segment but of course it is,going to slot down below then you know,something like a cx-5 as far as,different design elements we have chrome,trim around the windows at least for the,bottom portion and we do have some nice,silver trim up here for your roof rails,now,making our way around to the back of the,cx-30 of course for 2022 nothing really,changes in terms of the overall design,this is still a very fresh product from,the mazda lineup and i really do like,the way it looks now lets break down,some of the design elements we have an,exposure wiper right here we have our,mazda branding in the middle and then as,far as our tealights are concerned this,is one of my favorite elements about the,cx-30 these have,absolutely gorgeous full led tail lights,and thats actually going to be standard,equipment on the cx-30 so yes there are,a lot of luxury cars that do not have,tail lights as nice as this they have,full led elements we have a led fading,in and out turn signal and we also have,an led reverse light and then dropping,down to our lower area we do have a,black mac plastic thats going to be,staring on every single cx-30 although,it does blend in really nicely with this,black paint and also standard on every,single model are these dual exhaust,outlets i really like that touch its,going to be the same size regardless of,if you get the turbo or the regular,engine,now mazda has really done a great job,with the safety systems for the cx-30,theyre throwing in every single one of,them as standard equipment regardless of,which trim level you go for so thats,going to be ford emergency braking with,pedestrian detection lane keeping assist,auto high beam headlamps as well as,adaptive cruise control,now that said you can get a more,advanced version of that adaptive cruise,control if you go for a turbo premium,plus model that will throw in the,traffic jam assist as well as rear auto,braking,now for your warranty youre gonna have,mazdas standard warranty three year,thirty six thousand mile basic,five year sixty thousand mile power,train warranty no complimentary,maintenance but guys thats gonna wrap,up the exterior design of this cx-30 i,really like the blacked out elements on,this particular tester now lets check,out the in time,and in time instead of inside at the,inside and talk about the rear area as,well as the cargo department before we,take this,what are you trying to say i dont know,all right terrier before we take this,turbo model out for a spin,sliding up to our cx-30 well find,mazdas smart entry system on all but,the base trend level,and getting inside they do have a sensor,behind the handle so just grab it to,unlock,so of course this model is available in,a lot of different trim levels and as,such you do have a lot of different,material and color selections in regards,to your seating so the base model is,going to come with cloth seating,the select preferred and turbo models,those are going to have leatherette and,then if you choose that new carbon,edition thats where youll start to,have real leather and that comes in a,special red color,now on your premium and all of the turbo,premium models youre going to have this,right here this is a real leather seat,and you have the choice between black or,white in terms of the leather itself it,is very high quality has a nice,perforation of course you do have all,the signature stitching details and,stuff that youve come to expect,as far as the seats themselves theyre,going to be eight way power adjusting,on the preferred trim level and above so,thats the vast majority of them,additionally when you choose one of,those trim levels you will also have the,two-person memory seating which is,located right here,lets go ahead and start to talk about,the cabin materials in general here so,as you can see we do have a very nicely,finished door trim of course theyve,done a great job with this cabin making,it nice and high quality so you have the,leather that runs all across the armrest,with the stitching detail we have the,brown color contrasting leather with,also another stitching detail and thats,going to continue on to the dashboard,and everything is going to be soft touch,as far as the windows themselves theyre,going to be one touch auto up and down,for all four of them,and then like i was saying youre going,to see the color contrast brown leather,all across the upper dashboard so its a,very beautiful touch we have more,leatherette through here this is,finished in the black color,and then down below we do have a nice,pad for your knee to rest against with,again another stitching detail,everything is going to fit together,exceptionally well,and with the turbo models you do have a,special chrome accent around your,standard push button start,[Music],and after you start the vehicle up you,will be greeted with the premium mazda,gauge cluster this is actually standard,across the entire cx-30 lineup which is,a nice touch in the middle here weve,got the seven inch multi-function,display and you can cycle between more,traditional views,uh like your regular speedometer you can,put in trip information or you can kind,of go into this view which has the,enhanced safety systems as the main,focus,additionally if you choose,any of the premium trim levels thats,also going to throw in this head-up,display you see today,now as we pull back youre going to,notice rain sensing wipers one of the,nice touches that mazda suspension and this cx-30 but also,the Mazda 3 hatchback its based on this,takes Corners with ease I mean just I,see youre confusing the Power Wheels a,lot the cornering you go along a twisty,Road it handles so well in and out of,City traffic all right man Im a fan all,right well put you down as a Mazda fan,girl weve always said hey there are,some shortcomings with this cx-30 its,not perfect but the way that it drives,in handles,its like me not perfect oh my gosh,Im not saying anything because I dont,dance I Dont Dance he doesnt dance he,lied Ill stand at the Ill stand at the,table and sort of Wiggle around a bit,yeah I dont get out there if youre in,Vietnam I hit the Dance Floor Zach I I,videotape the fun yeah all right lets,get into the way this thing looks uh the,color is killer this is not rental car,red totally not rental car red this is,an absolutely beautiful color and very,popular for Mazda this comes standard,with LED headlights and LED tail lights,our turbo model has the black piano,Grill and it has available 18 inch,wheels which we have on our test model,there is a lot of controversy and a lot,of comments and youre gonna write below,you jumping on this one so this car has,very thick cladding along the bottom of,it and it sits high on its Wheels as,well I think they put the cladding there,to kind of anchor the look of it because,it really is a jacked up all-wheel drive,version of the Mazda 3 hatchback but you,know what I think it looks okay it,doesnt bother me a lot of people cant,see past it and it looks really good in,different colors remember the gray one,yeah yeah the good and the gray one and,I think it looks good I dont really,love the cladding I got to tell you its,extra thick on this cx30 you know what,Id love to see Mazda do come out with a,signature model painted oh wouldnt that,be perfect yeah charge a little more,Mazda theyre already charging a lot,right now,thinks the cx-30 doesnt do well and,were gonna get into that after,questions coffee and cars in our Hot,Topic what it does do well is offer a,premium experience in a non-premium,brand because this is basically the top,model and when you get any you kind of,feel like youre getting your moneys,worth I really like the color combo in,here youve got brown and white and,black theres mostly soft materials you,use very little hard plastic and I love,the traditional shifter one thing I,noticed we were going in and out of two,vehicles one has the traditional shifter,one had a column shifter and this is,just so natural I dont even need to,look down to shift I love it you know,what a lot of these push button rotary,things theyre the answer to the,question nobody was asking this works it,has worked for decades stick with what,works this comes with an 8.8 inch,display and a seven inch LCD meter,display no digital driver display in,here and no touch screen thats a,question for questions coffee and cars,coming up as well you know what I like,though is the Rotary redial its very,reminiscent Ive mentioned it many times,of the older MMI Audi system I like the,fact that you know you dont have,fingerprints and dust on this well you,can get dust but no fingerprints on the,screen you control everything with this,I wish when you went into the radio when,you went to tune it would go from the,station that youre actually on it,starts you right back down at the,beginning so if youre on satellite,radio and you say youre on Channel 28,my favorite spectrum and then I want to,tune to something else it goes back to,hits one and I hate hits one I love hits,one you know I like the poppy Tunes,its just me plenty of front row leg,room in here and these seats are,comfortable Mazda put these in the CX-5,and the cx-50 and everyone will be happy,Id be okay with these on a longer Road,Track yeah its a very comfortable car I,like the seating position there is no,height adjustment here on the passenger,side but I think that its its well,positioned now this top trim has,everything we need including a 360 view,monitor what it doesnt come with is,ventilated front seats or heated rear,seats now you can add some packages to,the lower trims like the 2021 Mazda CX-30 review – best family SUV yet? | What Car?

this is the mazda CX 30 and if youre,familiar with masters lineup then this,new SUVs name might be a bit confusing,Mazda has already got the CX 3 and a,cx-5 this cx30 sits in the middle of,those two cars and its not the CX 4,because Mazda had already nabbed that,name for another model in China and,right now you can save more than 1400,pounds on the CX 30 by going to work on,and before we start the rest of this,review by telling you everything about,this car make sure you subscribe to our,channel because weve got loads of new,car reviews going live every week the,master cx30 is a rival two SUVs like the,Skoda karach and a say attacker but the,pricier versions of it also get pretty,close to the Volvo XC 40 now the car,itself is actually based on the new,Mazda 3 hatchback but in fact its been,made to be slightly shorter and the,first thing you notice when you get in,the car is that this really doesnt feel,like an SUV so you dont sit noticeably,high off the ground in fact it feels no,higher than just the normal hatchback,but if that isnt such a problem for you,then there are lots of things to like in,the CX thirties interior to start with,plenty of adjustment in the steering,wheel and the steering wheel itself,feels really nice its not awkwardly,chunky and big and its not too skinny,it is just right feels like really nice,material around it as well and the seat,also has loads of adjustment too youve,even got the option of lifting up the,front of it to support your thighs but,you cant get adjustable lumbar support,on the trims below the top two ones,these front pillars could be a little,thinner they can sometimes get in the,way of your view when youre trying to,pull out with junctions but the view,over the shoulder towards the back is,okay but youve got pretty small rear,windows and also the rear screen itself,is pretty small as well so its not a,patch on the nice large glass area that,you get in the Skoda karach but its,still not awful either and also you get,front and rear parking sensors and a,reversing camera is standard and you can,also get one of those birds-eye view,360 degree cameras too another good,thing about the driving position is that,you get a part did you,to drive a display now its not fully,digital so it doesnt show you the,breadth of information and its not,quite as customizable as that in the,sayit and Skoda SUVs but its still very,crisp very clear and you also get a,head-up display as standard on every,model but where the cx30 really stands,out against every rival you can put it,up against is the build quality in here,because its excellent,so all these materials on the dash are,incredibly plush feel really nice solid,durable and all the buttons have a real,good feel of quality to them as well and,you can also get this nice kind of,two-tone leather effect on the dashboard,too and you can also have a nice bright,leather interior for your seats too so,the quality in here is excellent youve,got to jump up to cars like the BMW x1,and the Volvo X and 40 to get close to,what the cx30 offers another area where,the cx30 stands out from its rivals,inside is with its infotainment because,its got this 8.8 inch screen which is,recessed into the dashboard and,centrally mounted here but its just a,screen its not a touchscreen because,instead its got this rotary dial down,here with some shortcut buttons around,it and you can only use this and the,shortcut buttons on the steering wheel,to control it Mazda has decided not to,use a touchscreen because it says that,its too distracting to use on the move,and you cant really argue with that can,you now do not despair at all that this,isnt a touchscreen because its,incredibly simple to use very responsive,just as responsive as the other systems,available in say Skoda SUVs as well and,these shortcut buttons are very,intuitive its got a simple menu layout,and really its just great to use plus,dont forget it comes with apple carplay,and android auto as well as a DAV radio,and bluetooth which of course youre,coming to expect now now a space up,front is pretty good even with this,panoramic sunroof fitted theres plenty,of headroom,and as weve said loads of adjustment in,its driving position even if youve got,long legs youre gonna be fine up front,it also feels like a relatively wide,interior and for storage youve got this,slidable,armrest here which is actually very well,placed I must say and when you slide it,back you can see underneath here youve,got this storage compartment with a USB,port and further up on the centre,console,than here a couple of cup holders which,are very neatly disguised with this lid,when its closed and a head of that a,very handy tray we can chunk your keys,as with the glovebox,pretty good size nothing particularly,special but generally hugely impressive,up front in the cx30 but in the back,things arent so good and it starts with,the doors because if you look they dont,actually that big and they dont open,that wide either so getting in is a bit,more of a struggle than it is in other,SUVs and then when you are here the,legroom isnt as good as a Skoda karach,or a set attacker especially fuel behind,a tool driver obviously but there is an,okay amount of room for your feet under,the seat in front Headroom is alright,too,but generally a gives you a far,greater sense of airiness in the back,especially because if you can see these,windows are pretty small here in the,back of a CX 32 so it just doesnt,really feel very spacious and you also,only have a 60/40 split-folding rear,seats whereas a croc gets 40/20/40 split,folding seats you also cant fold those,rear seats from the boot but the space,you do get is more than you will in a,Volkswagen Golf or any other hatchback,of a similar size but by family SUV,standards this is below average its,around the same as in this on cash code,but smaller than the say attacker and,karach you dont have a two-level boot,floor either but an electric tailgate is,standard on all but the entry level trim,lower trim levels of the master cx30,apprised pretty much in line with the,equivalent versions of a Skoda corrupt,but as you go up the trim levels then,you get closer to other versions of the,Polo X and 14 so in other words this can,be an expensive car but to save more,than 1,400 pounds on one right now go to,what caro-kann official emissions,figures are decent and as for the fuel,economy we managed 37.6 miles per gallon,from the skyactiv-g during our testing,not quite matching official figures,Mazda has a pretty good reliability,record and every cx30 comes with a,three-year or 60,000 mile warranty which,is the same offered by Audi say at Skoda,and Volkswagen in urine cap safety tests,the cx30 was confusing,,but thats besides the point.,We generally like the way Mazdas look,and how they drive so we were curious to see,how the CX-30 would stand up to a year long test,from our diverse staff, where we treat vehicles,like normal shoppers.,While we usually like to purchase long-term test,vehicles for evaluation, the cost of running a full fleet,prevents us from doing so.,So from time to time noting.,Weve also had some debate on the infotainment controls.,Unlike most modern cars, you dont get a touch screen.,Instead you have this rotary controller for all functions,,including phone projection like Apple CarPlay.,Some on our staff preferred this setup and others,think its a deal breaker.,You want to spend some time playing with it,and remember theres a learning curve before you decide.,[MUSIC PLAYING],There were two recall campaigns for this model year CX-30,and our car was subject to one of them.,The problem was a power liftgate that may slowly,lower slightly when open and parked on an incline,and theres a chance someone could bump their head into it.,[MUSIC PLAYING],Mazdas maximum service interval is 10,000 miles or 12 months,,whichever comes first.,Or 5,000 miles or six months for severe use,like in hot or cold climates or in extremely heavy city use.,While this kind of maintenance is stuff you can generally,do at home if youre mechanically inclined,,we like to stick with dealership service departments,to mimic the ownership experience,of a regular customer.,And it was fine.,No issues at all.,[MUSIC PLAYING],How about reliability?,We had a broken windshield but thats not the cars fault.,The CX-30 was flawless, just as it should be.,[MUSIC PLAYING],While we usually like to have around 20,000 miles,on our long-term test cars by this point,,it was a pandemic year and all, so we didnt get there.,In this case, we got close to 16,000 miles,,which is still enough to get a decent read on fuel economy.,We averaged just shy of 26 MPG.,We didnt quite match the combined rating of 27 MPG,,but we did more city driving than usual over the last year.,So that checks out.,[MUSIC PLAYING],Whats our CX-30 worth now?,The only way to know for sure is by 2022 Mazda CX-30 AWD Turbo Snow Adventure Review

[Music],on todays episode we take the Mazda,cx-30 on an accidental snow Adventure,thats coming up right now on driving,sports TV,no cut cut thats not gonna work,[Music],[Music],this is of course the 2022 Mazda cx-30,turbo now the model we have here is a,premium plus and it goes for slightly,over thirty six thousand dollars two,years ago we did do a complete review of,the 2021 Mazda cx-30 which with the,naturally aspirated 2.5 liter engine now,that thing was a little bit Pokey but,other than that its identical to this,vehicle one of the things this vehicle,does have however is a surround view,camera system which well try out a,little bit later other than that its,basically the same vehicle so I thought,today lets not just re-hash the past,lets try something new so were going,to go on an adventure to Lion Rock now,this is a climb into the mountains and,its perfect for this vehicle because,the first I dont know about quarter of,it is all paved road which is ideal for,the cx-30 yeah this is a crossover but,with less than eight and a half inches,of ground clearance and a side note on,that Mazda is a little weird about their,ground clearance they say its 6.9 and,the Press stuff yet when you ask them,they say its actually over that its,like 7.6 7.7 as high as 7.9 so lets,just say for sake of argument it has,more than seven inches of ground,clearance but less than eight inches of,ground clearance because Mazda is not,terribly specific about this at all,anyway,back to my main point on paved surfaces,thats really what the Mazda is designed,to excel at however the path were going,to take today it starts paved but then,it turns to gravel and then that gravel,turns to rock as we head to the lookout,and today there is actually a small,possibility of snow in the upper,elevation so this could get really weird,real fast now the things were going to,test out today is of course the,all-wheel drive system this has Mazdas,clutch based all-wheel drive setup and,then theyve added a new Trail mode in,the older Mazdas you actually disable,traction control to go into a trail mode,well now its official there is a trail,button down here,so with a 2.5 liter turbo engine you,would expect pretty good performance,well lets see what it does with the,zero to 60. Im going to keep myself in,Im going to put it in sport mode,transmissions in drive Im going to,preload with the brake pedal kind of a,pseudo launch control and three two one,and go oh a little wheel spin up front,and 40 50 and 60 in 6.5 seconds which,actually is pretty good,but I would expect a little bit more,considering 310 pound-feet of torque,that said it did wheel spin a little bit,in the front which is kind of,interesting for an all-wheel drive,vehicle I also would expect more power,to go to the back than what I was,getting still not bad definitely faster,than most the other vehicles in this,class,so lets head into the mountains and see,how this cx-30 does in the real world,so on this first leg of the trip we are,on a super smooth paved surface which is,great for testing out the handling of,this little crossover and yeah its a,crossover but it still has that kind of,Mazda zoom zoom mentality I mean its,you think of this more as a little,sporty car than you do really a rugged,off-roader because clearly thats how,Mazda designed it,the handling is really good body roll is,very well controlled through the corners,the throttle is a little sluggish to be,honest I kind of would expect a little,bit more with what the power theyre,claiming this thing outputs but its,still kind of fun you know now there are,paddle shifters,I can shift the paddle oh yeah thats,pretty good you know it is a six-speed,automatic transmission so you know dont,expect dual clutch performance here,because youre not going to get it,little rough surfaces here I think,thats,just a taste of whats to come Ive got,to watch that shift so the paddle,shifters are very small kind of,awkwardly placed I mean theyre not big,enough to to find in a rush I dont,really find this an enjoyable way of,driving the car yeah its a way you,could do it but its just not ideal so,instead Im going to forget about that,whole manual override and were just,going to be in drive I think for the,rest of the trip though this is kind of,has that you know Mazda zoom zoom,mentality its really not quite as zoom,zoom as say,the standard Mazda 3.,but with some additional ground,clearance this definitely makes it a lot,more practical especially if you live in,a place like the Pacific Northwest now,we are east of the mountains so its,going to be sunny and cold today uh,the road surface is probably quite cold,so the tires arent really getting a,chance to heat up but thats okay,still has pretty good grip even these,stock tires are actually doing just fine,kind of expected them to be a little bit,more screechy but theyre not also that,was a big bump and the dampers,soaked it up nicely,now tight corner I throttle in do I feel,any power in the back there yeah,not a lot it really feels a lot like a,front-wheel drive vehicle but not so,much as that youre getting massive,understeer into the corners but its,definitely a thing its still an issue,with this vehicle they really need to,get more power to the back sooner to,make this a much more lively Driving,Experience,and hey look at that already some ice,now these are all season radials so I,dont know how far were going to get,today honestly this this could be a,disaster in the making,hopefully thats the only major snow,along the Route well see but well,definitely be giving this all-wheel,drive system a workout,wow snow,uh wow hmm yeah its its getting worse,very quickly,but its okay I enjoy ice and snow as,much as the next guy,what Im kind of surprised with is just,how hard packed this is clearly a lot of,vehicles have been up here oh wow we got,drifts okay and we got a truck now,trucks are a problem just whenever,youre up in the mountains its quite,possible to run into other people and on,these single tracks you got to be really,careful and typically I I,uh were not getting out of that,doing good there,[Music],this little things all-wheel drive is,so bad I didnt want to risk that side,thing there but thank you have a good,one,okay and on we go over the snow,kind of like this its like little yumps,but I cant get too excited because,thats a cliff and thats an upwards,Cliff so clearly uh we have hazards all,around us right now,oh it is starting to get deeper huh did,not expect a snow episode but lets uh,lets roll with it and see how far we,can get,did I bring any snow recovery Gear with,me no I did not,so uh were only going to take some,minor risks here,[Music],yeah this is getting deep I think we,should give this a try though wow,ooh were scraping already the ground,clearance is not great on this thing uh,still I think we should give it a shot,oh it is icy under there I think were,on a couple inches of ice,lets see what this all-wheel drive,system does shall we and lets floor it,yeah thats all we got now we havent,engaged Trail modes so I still have some,more options up my sleeve here,huh that trench Im afraid were gonna,scrape if we hit it so now were going,to try this corner were going to try it,without Trail mode were just going to,see if we can get around this,oh thats pretty good,oh yeah we got this,oh gotta watch those holes though,you know this thing is doing really good,lets see if we can kick it out here and,then were gonna go around the corner,now this is standard mode so traction,control is definitely kicking in,still fun,okay so now were gonna reset and were,gonna do the hi everybody,we are back welcome to yscom driving,once again,and its a beautiful wednesday morning,and the sun we started a little bit late,today its 8,11 in the morning and the sun is,just over the hills so one of the rare,occasions when i had to put the sunshade,down,because the sun is a little bit high up,in the sky well hopefully the traffic,remains clear here,and what car are we in we are,in the mazda cx-30,hey but i did take the cx-30 up before,right,well this one is different guys this is,the cx-30,all-wheel drive version and so oh i,gotta turn off this one the,lane watch is still on and uh,so okay this uh cx-30,all-wheel drive version comes fully,loaded its got the full eye,active sense the lane departure warning,and lane keep assist and the,adaptive cruise control and the,collision mitigation braking system so,it comes with a full complement,and uh price well with all-wheel drive,at all its about 10k,more than the base two wheel drive,version,uh not the base two the fully spec,two wheel drive version and this is,another 10k,more to give you the all-wheel drive so,youre looking at,170 000 ringgit if you want to buy,this fully specced fully decked so this,is the top of the range uh,cx-30 okay,so uh whats the difference well its,got,all-wheel drive for a start and,therefore,it promises you so much better traction,both in the dry and,especially in the wet and of course it,still has the 162 ps,230 newton meter engine and,also g vectoring plus which makes you,more comfortable driving through the,corners and gives you more confidence,going through,and what else yes a six-speed gearbox,that is very unique to mazda and it has,lock-up clutches in all the gears so,this 6-speed gearbox,is or rather in behavior its like a,manual because theres,virtually no slip so,this is one of the best gearboxes you,can get in the market,and its in the cx-30,okay in terms of wheelbase uh in terms,of the car build,this is built based on the mazda 3 the,new,mazda 3 architecture but in order to,give the same,type of handling they have shortened the,wheelbase,from 2710 i think for the,mazda 3 or is it 2720 im not sure,but its down to 2655 for this one,so its 265 mm,wheelbase so which makes the car a,little bit shorter,but well its a suv so its got a high,roof and its got all the good stuff,and of course it has the versatility of,the suv too,and now we are going to go up the,mountain,and were gonna check how good this car,is,okay so it also has paddle shifters but,im gonna do one more step,im gonna turn on the sport mode which i,just did a little button here,very nice little,easy to use just push it forward it goes,into sport mode,and of course it has a head up display,which you probably cannot see,but just check okay the cameras are,still recording,and we do have a little bit of traffic,here,in sports mode the engine takes on a,more urgent note,and the uh,gear changes are dragged a bit longer,okay and so here we go,and there is a long truck there waiting,and uh okay,we have to follow behind this bezel okay,im,invoking the,pedal shifters and we are sharing this,corner with this bezel,and thank you he is moving over and here,we go,okay so all-wheel drive technically,gives you more grip,so im just going to put it to the test,[Music],okay im going to shift the manual yes,i put in the manual and we are now i,think in second year yes manual second,gear,pulling up the hill coming to the,right hander lets take the line,oh very nice the rear kind of tucks in,okay i forgot to mention my fluorescent,struts in the front,and at the back you have the unique,master,torsion beam arrangement which is got,varying thickness so therefore,it handles very well and i hope this,motorbike,realizes we are behind him,thank theres nobody behind us,yeah,[Music],okay for those newbies who are watching,for the first time,im not all over the place this is a,control,drive and we are using lines,to make the most of the road and we are,able to use lines because theres no,traffic beside me,theres no traffic behind me and things,like that so,uh please understand that and if you,dont,well go and do a bit of reading up here,so we are not all over the place and we,have to be careful,okay hes not sure hes letting me go,thank you very much,so you have to be careful when youre,driving fast,you dont want any incidents,and you drive as fast as your skill,allows you,ok,thank you,hmm,[Music],and so guys were at the roundabout,okay that was quite a nice drive,and not the fastest in the world but,its enough,okay its enough for you to enjoy the,drive,and also good to for you to hone your,driving skills,and of course the all-wheel drive system,helps,were now at the roundabout and we are,heading down the hill,and we are in normal mode now in,automatic,so lets take a quick look at the,right okay based on what i have seen so,far,the cx-30,is got a firm ride oh theres some,firemen here,dont know what theyre doing theres no,fire okay,okay back to the cx-30 and lets talk,about the ride,well to me its a very nice and supple,ride,and if you ask me to classify it,well take the middle spot between,comfort and sporty,so this is slightly to the,sporty side of comfortable okay,oh the lane keep is,on yeah,the lane departure warning is on we have,turned it off,well this uh safety,stuff is good for people who have,attention deficiency or youre,absent-minded,or you forget you know i normally turn,all systems,off i will turn off as much as i can but,some of the systems you cant,and i like to be able to rely on my own,senses,for driving of course it helps if you,are,sleepy or something you turn on your,your,lane departure warning it helps and then,it also is good training for people,so they learn to use their signals okay,but driving on a mountain,well you dont really need it of course,also they have the collision mitigation,braking system,thats also very good for people who are,not very good at driving or maybe have,slow reflexes but usually it gives you a,warning to tell you youre near the car,in front,brake if you dont brake it will break,for you so these are all the driving,aids,and uh theyre good to have but to me,well not really necessary but its up to,you okay,so the ride is good and,it lends itself to good handling so,far we have not reached any limit or,breached any limit,the car handles superbly,it has lots of grip uh also thanks in,part to the 18-inch,wheels and of course the all-wheel drive,system helps a lot,and if you just drive normally like this,you will still enjoy quite good fuel,economy we got,an economy of about 10 kilometers per,liter,thats exactly the same as 10 liters per,hundred and that was with,along the along the way from pj to,gotongjaya which included this very,vigorous,hill climb now weve come to the sharp,corner,we give the van a bit of a room,and we use up all the road here and,were going to,go up this part because i 2021 Mazda CX-30 AWD Sport Review – Behind the Wheel

[Music],uh,[Music],ah,[Music],[Applause],[Music],we were quite impressed when we tested,the mazda 3 back in 2020,stunning looks great drive extremely,high levels of refinement,but see the world is changing and it did,so ever so,dramatically in the same year,[Music],yeah theres no way i can do it as good,as the rock crossovers are slowly,becoming the choice of many,overshadowing sedans and hatchbacks,alike and this,is mazdas answer the cx-30 all-wheel,drive sport,maybe i need a bottle of tequila or,[Music],something,unlike its much larger siblings you,definitely wont confuse this with the,rest of mazdas crossover lineup,it ditches the larger taller look of the,cx-5,and it really retains more of a car-like,silhouette its essentially,a mazda 3 on stilts its got very,familiar lines down the side and its,profile is like well more reminiscent of,a sportback,now back to the cx-30 the front clip,features led headlamps in a very,striking shape and you can see its very,recessed in here,adding a layer of depth and paired with,its huge grille it makes for a pretty,darn good looking front end and it,achieves this,through minimalism by not adding too,much angles and unnecessary thingamabobs,common on modern crossovers,whats not so minimal is the plastic,cladding on the side,there is just a bit too much here maybe,a darker color can help quote-unquote,hide it somehow because on the sole,crystal red which is a choice color,it really does stand out for better or,worse i guess the whole point of that is,to make it look a little bit more rugged,a little bit more capable which i do,understand,but to me mazdas are a bit more of an,elegant car and this,really doesnt look all that elegant it,doesnt look like a rough neck no lets,not go that far,but it does sit on 40 millimeters more,of ground clearance,than the mazda 3 which is ever so,apparent if you look at the wheel wheels,look at this,wow it also sits on 18s with 55 series,tires,now mazda never really gives its cars,radically designed wheels,but really doesnt have to i think the,finish and look of it really complements,the overall design perfectly,and however hidden theyre stopped by,disc brakes all around which look great,the back is as handsome as the front and,the shape is very unique with the hatch,pointing outward,and also has a little more curve than,the mazda 3. there are more leds found,here,and much like the front the shape of the,tail lamps are very aggressive,also just for an extra touch of premium,the throne signals all around,dont just blink here but they,gracefully fade out you know like donald,trump,now no bias here just truth but this has,got to be my favorite in terms of look,in this particular segment,what i would love to know is what do you,think whats your favorite could it be,the celtos,maybe the kona or perhaps something else,do let us know in the comments below,because this should be interesting,the cx-30 shares the same platform as,the mazda3 so it would go without saying,that it shares the exact same engine,which is a two liter skyactiv g mated to,a six-speed automatic transmission that,produces 153 horses and 200 newton,meters of torque,now in the city youre doing about nine,kilometers per liter light traffic,youre doing about 11 not,bad when that clears up you can actually,push to 14. now on the highway,you can do up to 17 kilometers per liter,now with all those figures combined,youre probably thinking yeah great,nothing spectacular but,hang on this is an all-wheel drive,system and that,is a gasoline engine so 11 kilometers,per liter in the city,is not bad at all the plushness and,quality many are accustomed to in a,mazda is found in the cx-30,the cabin is almost a carbon copy of the,mazda 3.,soft plush leather is found in every,seat front to back,the armrests are also very comfortable i,wouldnt expect any kind of soreness,from leaning on these for a long drive,especially the center console,man this things like a pillow up in,front is a real treat to the eyes and,hands as the dash just,seamlessly contours around the cabin,only broken by the screen that pops up,in the middle its huge,and although no one really pokes on the,dashboards mazda did an impressive job,to cover it with the soft touch material,and to be honest with you this interior,is so good it can even rival those of,dare i say german cars the steering,wheel,is very nice to the touch as well and,the buttons all have a great feel to,them,the same story goes for the rest of the,switches and dials found here,everything here has good weight and,tactility its evident that mazda really,put time and effort to make this cabin,feel,special speaking of dials the 8.8 inch,widescreen infotainment found here is,operated by this huge one found in the,center,so the operations of the system is all,done through here,this knob controls almost everything,which is actually,a good thing so mazda says see by doing,so without use the use of a touch screen,and you leaning forward,you have your concentration more on the,road it does,it does take some time to get used to,because youre used to fiddling it with,it like this,but its actually better for you after a,day or two its really not a problem at,all,the infotainment in the cx-30 has both,android auto and apple carplay,now both work with almost no fault the,screen is very sharp and has good,contrast,and the response from the system is,almost instantaneous we experience,close to no delays in input you can also,access various settings for the safety,systems and features of the cx-30 and,trust me there are,a lot you can adjust the collision,avoidance alert,turn on and off the lane keep assist,radar crews cross traffic alerts and,more and trust me i do mean more and to,top it all off it has the same bose,system we fell in love with when in the,mazda 3.,[Music],now with all of that youre probably,thinking its so darn good theres got,to be something wrong right theres just,gotta be,well there is one thing and that is the,space back here is really,not stellar no not at all sure the seats,are actually very comfortable you get a,center armrest with two cup holders you,got vents up front,but really the space is nothing,spectacular leg room,nothing great headroom also nothing,great dont even think about putting,three adults back here because the,center tunnel,man thats pretty high so really it does,have,one fault this this has got to be its,biggest problem or is it its,smallest problem i dont know im,confused,[Music],the cx-30 has a whole host of features,that come in handy for long trips down,expressways,you have radar crews which keeps you at,a safe distance from the car in front of,you,lane departure warning which alerts you,when there is a vehicle in your blind,spots and when changing lanes,and there is even a driver monitoring,which alerts you when the camera is down,here on the instrument cluster,notice fatigue or sleepiness now i could,go out and test it,yes thats true but im just gonna trust,mazdas word on this one,there is also another cool piece of tech,which is the heads-up display,which keeps you in check when you are,driving on the highway,if cruise control is not your thing and,trust me if cruise control is not your,thing,these paddles certainly are,now as for comfort in the cabin it is,thoroughly impressive about,how comfortable it is in here theres,barely any wind noise or tire noise that,creeps in and the ride,its its just so smooth coupled with,very comfortable seats going on a long,road trip in the cx-30,no problems whatsoever and there is also,over 500 liters of cargo space in the,back,which is actually more than the mazda 3,and that obviously more than doubles,when you fold the seats down,so you can pack more than enough luggage,and gear for two if say,youll go camping as you would since,mazda markets this car to be perfect for,individuals with,active lifestyles,now once youre out of the city and find,yourself on provincial roads,the cx-30 is more than capable of having,a little bit of fun in

only do,they have a very similar design and,share the exact same platforms but they,also share the exact same drivetrains as,well,as is the case with the mazda3 as well,as the larger cx-5 crossover you can get,the cx-30 with either a 2.5 liter,4-cylinder engine or a 2.5 liter turbo,and in canada you can also get a base,model with a 2-liter 4-cylinder engine,as well now whats really nice about,this 2.5 liter 4-cylinder engine is the,fact that it does produce a lot more,power than you typically find in a lot,of these small crossover suvs it,produces 186 horsepower and 186,pound-feet of torque which gives it,plenty of performance for a small,crossover like this and because it is a,relatively large displacement engine too,it feels very smooth and quiet it,doesnt feel like its struggling for,power like some of these smaller 2-liter,engines that you find on other similar,crossovers but if for whatever reason,this engine is not enough power for you,you also have the option of a,turbocharged 2.5 liter engine that,produces 227 horsepower and 310,pound-feet of torque although this,engine is fine using regular you do get,a little bit more power if you use,premium but lets face it with todays,gas prices thats realistically not,going to happen for many buyers either,way 227 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of,torque is plenty for a small crossover,like this you just plant your foot down,end,yeah it takes off extremely well it,actually feels comparable to a lot of,small luxury suvs like say the bmw x1 or,the audi q3 which is quite impressive,so if you like the idea of a small suv,that gives you plenty of power theres,no question this is the one to have if,you look at other brands like subaru,honda and toyota their suvs have nowhere,near the same level of power the closest,thing would be the kia celtos or the,hyundai kona with the optional 1.6 turbo,engines but even those ones dont,produce as much power as the cx-30 turbo,having said that though even though the,cx-30 has great performance the one,thing that its not so great with is,fuel economy whether you go with the,naturally aspirated 2.5 liter engine or,the turbo engine the cx-30 is only able,to achieve between 23 to 30 miles per,gallon or roughly 9 to 12 liters per 100,kilometers which is a little bit,unimpressive for a small suv theres no,question if you go for something else,like the honda hr-v or the toyota crawl,across you are getting much better fuel,efficiency but then again i guess that,is the trade-off for having a much more,powerful larger displacement engine and,unfortunately mazda doesnt offer any,kind of a hybrid option either although,the cx30 might not be the most fuel,efficient small crossover that you can,buy i have to say that im more than,happy to trade a little bit of,efficiency in exchange for having the,simplicity and mechanical reliability,that you get with mazda unlike other,brands which not only use turbo engines,across the board but also cvt and dual,clutch transmissions mazda is one of the,few brands that not only has a naturally,aspirated engine but also a conventional,six-speed automatic transmission,although a trendy cvt or a dual clutch,transmission might be a little bit,better for efficiency you just cant,beat the reliability and the simplicity,of a conventional six-speed automatic,thats also the case with a naturally,aspirated engine although i do like the,optional turbo engine in the cx-30,having a turbo does add a lot of,complexity and also adds a lot of heat,and pressure to the engine which is,ultimately not great for its longevity,although admittedly mazda has had great,reliability with this 2.5 turbo a simple,naturally aspirated engine is always,best if youre the type of person likes,to buy and keep their cars for upwards,of 10 to 15 years,another area where mazda thinks about,reliability is the fact that they dont,bother with an annoying engine start,stop system like you find on most other,cars im really not a big fan of engine,start stop systems the way they shake,the whole car every time you stop at a,light and the way they also put more,wear on the engine and the starter so,the fact that mazda doesnt bother with,this feature is a huge bonus in my,opinion and that just goes to show that,mazda is a company that really cares,about its long-term reliability and,build quality which is something the,company is very good at mazdas are not,only known for their performance and,their reliability theyre also known for,delivering a very fun and sporty driving,experience too which is something the,cx-30 is certainly very good at theres,no question this is a great handling,crossover it feels very sharp and well,balanced with excellent body control,this is an suv that youd be happy to,toss around into corners and have a bit,of fun with which is something that you,couldnt save other similar small,crossovers from other brands and not,only is it a lot of fun to toss around,but its also fairly quiet and you also,get great ride quality too,in terms of the ride and handling,balance this is probably one of the best,small crossovers that you can buy which,is no surprise really because thats,something that mazda has always excelled,at another area where mazda really,excels is with its interiors,every time i get inside a new mazda im,always amazed at how luxurious and,upscale everything feels especially when,you compare it against other brands like,subaru and toyota which are nowhere near,at the same level,mazdas use of materials the quality of,the switch gear and just the overall fin,finish are really top notch,in addition to the really nice materials,and switch gear another luxurious touch,is the fact that mazda gives you a lot,of choices when it comes to the colors,of the interiors unlike most other car,brands which pretty much only give you a,black interior mazda gives you the,choice of a black interior a light tan,interior like my test car here or you,can even get a red leather interior,which is very nice,and not only is the interior of the,cx-30 surprisingly luxurious but its,also filled with a lot of great tech too,for example you get a really nice clear,digital gauge cluster plus a really,great infotainment system that comes,with both apple carplay and android auto,capability although you do need to,control it using a dial on the center,console as opposed to having touch,screen capability it is fairly,straightforward to use this is also a,v
