mortal kombat has finally arrived this,film has been in development for a very,long time we had the original mortal,kombat back in what 95.,paul w s anderson then a sequel mortal,kombat annihilation which was,an absolute abomination against humanity,and so funny i love watching that movie,oh my god,as long as i have the power khan you,will never rule this world,as long as the portal remains open your,world becomes,my world but all these years later we,have a new adaptation of the film thats,rated r,and very bloody and very violent this,film tells the story of mma fighter,cole young who seeks out earths,greatest champions in order to stand,against the enemies of outworld,in a high-stakes battle for the universe,when it comes to the mortal kombat games,my friends and i always enjoyed kicking,each others asses in them but i never,really got into the story,i know theres a lot of story to mortal,kombat never really interested me,i liked ripping peoples spines out what,can i say thats about it,so thats really all i wanted from this,movie i wanted really,bloody brutal epic fights that felt,weighty that had impact to them it was,rated r,and thats what was promised me the,first like 10 minutes of the movie i was,like holy [ __ ] this is like way better,than i thought it was going to be,because my friend and i we were just,gonna we actually made popcorn and we,were just going to like watch this,and and kind of laugh and and stuff our,faces,filled with popcorn and candy but the,first 10 minutes of the movie were,surprisingly,great i love hiroyuki sonata i think,hes one of the best actors ever,check out the original japanese ring,last samurai the wolverine,the twilight samurai the guy is amazing,and so to see him in this,video game movie i was like oh man,theyre going for authenticity here,theres some serious [ __ ] seasoned,talent in this movie awesome,and then they pulled the 2014 godzilla,where that movie started out with brian,cranston got us wrapped up into that,character,and then pivoted to a far less,interesting character,in aaron taylor johnsons soldier this,movie does the same thing,by pivoting away from hiroyuki sonatas,hanzo hisashi,and going to someone named cole young,whos an mma fighter an invented,character has nothing to do with mortal,kombat lore,thats fine i dont give a [ __ ] uh do,whatever you want as long as the story,storys good i just,didnt really find this character very,interesting he was a down and out kind,of underdog fighter who wanted to,provide for his family and weve seen,that,21 000 times so i dont know,it was a strange choice to sort of have,him be the protagonist when there is,so many a plethora of other more,interesting mortal kombat characters to,make the protagonist,but beyond that i found the movie mostly,pretty entertaining especially when kano,came on screen josh lawson as kano is a,scene stealer without a doubt,hes so much of a scene stealer its,mind-boggling its like hes in a,different movie the other great addition,to the film is sub-zero,hes exactly what i wanted to see from,sub-zero a badass who shows up,in the real world sometimes kills some,people with ice and,uh does some [ __ ] up [ __ ] i really,liked sub-zero a lot in the film,hes what he needed to be as i said my,expectations for this movie were,give me bloody brutal fights and have,them say some funny mortal kombat,catchphrases and make me laugh,while i choke to death on popcorn and,for the most part,i got that however i do have one major,complaint with the movie and its,unfortunately the way they edited the,fight scenes if youve watched my,channel for a long time you know that,im not really a fan of quick cut,editing i never have been,and i dont really know anyone who is,for whatever reason,they decided to do that quite often,there is a considerable amount of,coverage,to these fight scenes and the they cut,around them a lot,and i dont understand why its just,ugly it doesnt have to be,that way and the other thing is that,while the fights are very bloody at,times,it seems very focused on the fatality,element like were going to kill this,person in a very gruesome way,at the end but before that its very,pg-13,the fights dont feel like they have,weight to them,theres not a lot of impact to the,punches characters get boulders thrown,on them and then the boulders are picked,up and they have like dust on their,shoulders and thats it,theres theres not a lot of blood until,somebody gets sliced in half,by a spinning hat okay thats [ __ ],awesome,but for the most part it doesnt really,feel like people are,being hurt or are in danger like i look,at a movie like the raid for instance,that to me feels more like mortal kombat,characters in that movie,feel like they are being brutalized and,truly viciously savagely hurt,here it feels very pg-13 until theyre,killed and i wish that there was more,impact to the way these fights happened,and they didnt feel so,superhero-y where it feels like everyone,can just kind of get up and walk away,thats not how i envision mortal kombat,and when youre going for a rated r,and you have that opportunity to make,incredibly well choreographed fights,that are also very brutal and you feel,that pain,and they dont do it i would say that,was the movies biggest,actual flaw for me you know i mean the,character stuff,i expected to be cheesy i expect the,world to be silly and over the top i,i wanted all of that and the movie gave,me that,but the best parts of the movie are,easily scorpion and sub-zero,anything involving those two people,[ __ ] great,the whole setup of what they could do in,the future,i dont know i was a little disappointed,also that,the mortal kombat element of the,tournament,felt like it was just this thing they,talked about sometimes,the actual fights between a lot of these,characters and the third act felt almost,like a montage,very quick and throw away but honestly i,feel like most mortal kombat fans,especially hardcore mortal kombat fans,will find enjoyment in this movie and i,certainly laughed a lot and had fun,while people were being brutally killed,i just wish that it was um im not,saying,more gritty or realistic i just want to,feel like they are in danger,like the pain element of mortal kombat i,need to feel like thats,part of this universe the next time we,see more of these fights im gonna give,mortal kombat a c,plus guys thank you so much as always,for watching but i also want to tell you,about a pretty cool video game right now,thats in the middle of a kickstarter,its called ghosts,its a new fmv game from one of the,writer producers of,host jed shepherd which recently won the,fangoria chainsaw award for best,streaming premiere,its a partnership that the only move you know,against all odds a movie adaptation of a,ludicrously violent fighting game with,an inherently absurd premise,manages to come together as a,delightfully cheesy and over-the-top,martial arts action movie,if that sounds like deja vu its because,mortal kombat was already made into a,movie back in 1995,but this rebooted movie of the same name,directed by simon mccoyd,follows in those footsteps by respecting,the legacy of the beloved game series,and its characters,but not to a fault the result heavily,caters to fans of netherrealms 29 year,old fighting game series,through tongue-in-cheek inside jokes and,references while still doing an,admirable job at introducing complete,newcomers to these worlds and realms,after a terrific opening that sets up,the heated and iconic rivalry between,supernatural warriors scorpion and,sub-zero,mortal kombat takes a while to find its,footing,this is very much an avengers style,team-up movie that brings together a,large group of super powered martial,artists but unless youre familiar with,the games it doesnt have the benefit of,being led into by solo movies to,familiarize the audience with each,character,or what the heck the mortal kombat,tournament even is,as a result the first half is paced,awkwardly as it bounces between,character introductions,action scenes and explanations of why,this otherworldly cryomancing assassin,is tearing up a city street to kill,anybody with a mysterious dragon marking,it doesnt help that cole young the only,character that doesnt come from the,games,just isnt very interesting despite,being such an important character to the,overall plot,his backstory of being a former mma,champion whos forgotten his winning,ways,feels mostly irrelevant and his,relationship with his family is too,underdeveloped to draw any kind of,sympathy,cole ultimately feels like little more,than a character whos there,to represent the unfamiliar audience and,have everything explained to him,mortal kombat gets a much-needed,injection of personality,once the morally bankrupt and borderline,psychotic kano is introduced,kano lights up every scene hes in with,charismatic energy,sharp delivery and fierce intensity,despite fully embracing his role,as the comic relief theres also just a,really fun and interesting dynamic,between him and the rest of the cast,as theyre forced to tolerate an,undeniably evil man,after all the introductions are out of,the way things pick up in a big way in,the second half as the heroes of earth,realm,discover their special powers this all,happens through training at raidens,temple,and its a clever way to contextualize,the ability each fighter has in the,games,and it also leads to some great,unveiling moments from characters like,sonia and jax,of course it wouldnt be mortal kombat,without blood and gore,and while the new movie is actually,notably less violent than the,hilariously gruesome games themselves,there are absolutely some gnarly,fatalities that will no doubt make fans,smile with macabre glee,and others gasp in shock,the special effects that achieve this,level of violence are great too,and whats especially notable about the,fights is that theyre not built around,digital razzle dazzle,but rather its used to enhance the,brutality of the actual martial arts,and in that way its extremely effective,the music is notably less memorable than,the incredibly catchy soundtrack from,the 1995 movie,but it at least cheekily throws in that,iconic theme,at the best possible moment perhaps the,biggest disappointment,is the fact that because there are so,many characters several notables are,used in ways that squander their,potential,the biggest casualty is molina who is,reduced to little more than henchmen,with just a handful of lines,a couple of fights and absolutely no,backstory,its a job that feels like it could have,been filled by literally any other,character,and putting fan favorite molina in that,role feels like kind of a waste,that disappointment though is,counterbalanced by some truly excellent,fight scenes that make up the last third,of the nearly two hour movie,the film does a particularly incredible,job in bringing the classic rivalry of,subzero and scorpion to life,through their intensely physical fights,in addition to just being an impressive,display of one-on-one combat,they are also jam-packed with both,subtle and overt references to the games,that work wonderfully as little bits of,fan service,in a spectacular display of blood guts,and,effects heavy martial arts battles this,new take on the over-the-top story of,the mortal kombat fighting games,perhaps bites off a little more than it,can chew by attempting what is,essentially,an origin story and an adventures-esque,superhero team up all in one,as a result the first half stalls out a,bit as it backs up a dump truck of,exposition,and even then some characters that,really deserve more time in the,spotlight,end up being shallow and forgettable,still mortal kombat finds its footing in,the second half,and delivers a gleefully cheesy and,entertaining take on one of gamings,most historic franchises,and a solid starting point for future,films,for more fatalities get over here and,discover things you probably didnt know,about mortal kombat,and enjoyed the long-running [Music],the mortal kombat movie was not just a,bad mortal combat movie,but it was just a bad movie and im,going to tell you why,in the most pragmatic and reasonable way,that i possibly can because theres this,conception out there,that i just hate this movie for the sake,of hating this movie,and that is 100 percent far from the,truth,when the trailer did drop if you,actually watched my video where i give,you my honest thoughts on the trailer,and my updated thoughts on the movie in,general,though i did state concerns and,criticisms from the trailer,i also gave high praises for the trailer,and i did make it very clear that after,watching the mortal kombat movie trailer,i do see myself enjoying the movie,in other words i did give this movie a,chance,and now that the movie is out i think i,am qualified,100 to have an opinion and in this video,im going to go over,the reasons why i did not like this,movie,and why i think its a bad movie and im,going to break it down into chapters,the underdeveloped characters the arcana,the plot holes,the fighting the aesthetics and cole,young the characters in this movie are,super underdeveloped,you do not want to have underdeveloped,characters,in your movie character development and,the plot of the movie are almost,intertwined with each other and when,character development is lacking it also,brings down the plot of the movie,and it just brings your movie down to,whole new levels of low,most of the characters show up kind of,just to show up,kung lao shows up and he does cool stuff,and has somewhat of a likable,personality,but he doesnt do much luke hang and,kung lao,only interact twice none of them are an,exchange of dialogue theres no,chemistry between them,and were supposed to care about,lukangs loss and feel bad for him,liu kang talks about how he met a,brother when he joined the shaolin and,mentions that hes his cousin,but how can we care about that when they,dont show us how much they mean to each,other,we as mortal kombat fans may care but as,a movie,and script-wise the film does not make,any effort to make the audience,care the heroes dont connect with each,other and dont have any chemistry,they kind of just meet each other and,follow along the plot,the dinner scene although a great scene,could have been used for the characters,to all connect with one another,to learn about each other to understand,each other and just to make our heroes,feel connected,liu kang sonja and johnny cage all felt,connected,in the 95 movie and in scorpions,revenge we are simply,not given any time to develop the,characters the dinner scene was mainly,kanos big moment which was good,but you could have had both because if,you did do both,it would be better and i dont think,anybody would disagree there the,characters that get the most development,are kano and cole young and only one of,them is good,and kanos existence in the script in,the movie,is the shining example of actually being,capable of writing good characters,and talking about the villain,specifically theyre just there just to,be there as well,shang tsung appears three times before,he even gets,named he doesnt have a proper,introduction and we dont get a sense of,who he is,and his motives and hes quite literally,just a generic,bad guy the other villains are,completely wasted as well,molina is wasted raco is wasted nitara,is wasted,reptile is wasted goro is wasted all of,these characters are so generic,and bland and if you replace them with,random evil guy from outworld number,three four,five and six nothing would change if,these characters are going to be,jobbers why not use actual jobbers,do not treat named characters that fans,care about,as if theyre not important because that,in no way shows that you have respect,for the source material,and due to this fact that the villains,are so generic and bland,the villains dont give us any reason,for us to think that theyre a threat,remember how steffenwolf justice league,was just a cgi bad guy for the justice,league to fight,we have the same problem in this movie,with all of the villains except for,sub-zero,imagine if thanos had no development and,he just wanted to kill the avengers,because he just can,do you think that would be better than,what thanos actually is in the mcu,as a result of this the movie has no,stakes,and a lot of the fights have no weight,to them and they just happen because,lol remember this is mortal kombat show,molina biting a head off,show reiko being a smart and strategic,general like how he is in the games,just show us why we should care about,them,so let me just put this plainly the,arcana plot point is straight,ass we do not need to have a plot point,dedicated to explaining the mortal,kombat characters special moves,look guardians of the galaxy didnt,dedicate an entire plot point to,explaining how a tree could talk,or why rocket speaks english and walks,like a human,this is an example of the studio not,having faith in the audience and not,having faith in the source material,because do they think that the audiences,are just not,capable of understanding characters,using their special moves,if movies like aquaman are billion,dollar movies where people,talk underwater and people move smoothly,underwater like how they are on land,there should be 100 no problem with just,explaining that kung laos hat,is what can make him teleport and liu,kangs fireballs come from his inner chi,or that kanos eye laser comes from his,metal eye,the arcana plot point just raises way,too many questions that shows why its,such a bad,concept for example what if joe shmoe,accidentally killed kano in a car,accident does he get the arcana now,does joe shmoe all of a sudden have to,fight in a mortal combat tournament like,what the [ __ ],why doesnt kano just shoot two laser,beams out of his eye,what do tonfas have anything to do with,coles arcana and personality,and sonia discovers her arcana super,fast and what relation do the,pink rings have to her nobody cares why,these characters have special moves,if audiences dont care that atlanteans,speak underwater,if audiences dont care that a raccoon,can talk if audiences dont care that,captain america shield doesnt obey the,laws of physics then the,audience sure as hell dont care that,luke hank can shoot a fireball out of,his goddamn hand the plot of the movie,is that,shang tsung and his minions are trying,to kill the earthrum warriors before the,tournament,its a prequel to the mortal kombat 1,tournament now you would think this is a,new clever take on mortal kombat stories,but in reality,it falls apart very quick so shang tsung,is trying to cheat and break the rules,of mortal kombat and its established,that he,is cheating so why didnt raiden do his,job and,fry shang tsung as soon as he entered,into his temple i know some people may,say well then if he did that then the,plot wouldnt happen,and that right there is you saying how,shallow the plot,is without even knowing it because,youre correct if,one character did their purpose,correctly,then the movie falls the [ __ ] apart and,its even more confusing when raiden,says that hes not able to interfere,but he interferes by shielding his,temple and stopping the conflict,he interferes by teleporting the heroes,and villains to other locations,and at the end he zaps shang tsung away,again why didnt he do this when shang,tsung,first shows up to his own [ __ ] temple,raiden also teleports the heroes into,the void and he specifies that shangston,could not follow anyone into the void,so why didnt he have the heroes trained,there,its not like their training required,much setting importance,and because the plot is so shallow it,makes,raidens character look very bad one of,this movies biggest selling points was,getting to see the fight scenes and the,director of the movie promised to have,the best fight scenes ever put,on film well im sorry but thats just,not the case,the fight choreography is extremely poor,in a lot of fight scenes like reiko vs,jax,sonja vs molina

i,love it,but you should see it because its so,bad and you should also,see mortal kombat uh 2021.,um so,and also im i uh we are working on a,mortal kombat,game we just uh finished our street,fighter board game which should be,fulfilling uh,for the rest of the world very very soon,towards it should be done by,middle of may and we have begun,obviously,for a while now production on mortal,kombat so i love mortal kombat all,things mortal kombat,the universe is so important to me uh is,in my childhood basically big fan so,youre gonna get,im gonna give you my fan aside,then im gonna give you my critics side,because you know im angry joe i,we keep it 100 percent okay we keep it,100,real no matter what no matter the,consequences so,uh hopefully wp isnt too mad uh at us,so,lets just jump in here,because i will uh,as a fan let me say as a fan i freaking,love the fact that theres new mortal,kombat right and this this film has,so many little nuggets inside it for,fans you know like little moves from the,video games,exactly the way they are in the video,games,freaking [ __ ] fatalities guys the the,fights are great,the the uh choreography is fantastic,action is fantastic um you know the look,of some things is really good,some other things not so good uh,and so from that aspect im excited,theres more mortal kombat because i,want people to see it,and i want people to potentially get,well i want to see more,right we had a great television series,kind of thing on uh you remember,machinima,had something on youtube great stuff and,now this is translated to the big screen,except for the pandemic so then it went,on hbo max,so its a great time to be a mortal,kombat fan right now because theres a,lot of it and a lot of good stuff for it,but after watching this here comes my,critics side,its uneven dont say it,it has a id say a lot of problems a lot,of creative choices that i wouldnt have,made myself,and that i think would uh not only,bother some fans but also bother what,the director has,said time and time again that hes,trying to uh,bring a new audience to mortal kombat,and this is why,he made some of the choices he made i,disagree completely,i think that he made some bad choices,like the other ones like,the the hardcore ones like no thats not,what i wanted,yeah and when i saw the trailer i was,like this is going to be a make break,for cole,and oh yeah we we talked about this,right at the beginning remember were,like,its go the whole film is gonna you know,kind of be make or break on coal right,it was yeah well was it john thats what,it was thats what it was for you,[ __ ] did not like i didnt like coal,um unfortunately some other not just,coal some of the other characters for me,were very flat,yeah the star for me was kano kano was,the he was the best the standout star of,the show,and even the standout star of the show,kind of gets lost a little,uh later on its uh very id say messy,a little unfocused uh but when its hot,its hot,okay but when its not oh man,youre youre like oh no oh please,no and i love these characters but yeah,i wasnt there,yeah louis tan plays cole young and,i love louis tan uh the things that hes,been in,uh you know in netflix you can watch,great,uh martial artist a fantastic voice in,the community,gamer we love him i love you man uh,but the character its not his fault,its not because,the lines written for him unfortunately,do not lend themselves well,to a character that we like you know,um and i think it was completely,unnecessary to go about it in this way,uh let me let me give you some banger,lines,uh from from his character,its uh lets see he says his,contribution is,no it is not over we still need to fight,we need to fight smarter we need to,control the fight,we need to split them up these im these,are individual,lines they are so uh vanilla so standard,coal the film is kind of supposed to be,centered around coal,and be that audience surrogate that,vehicle for,introducing us to the mortal kombat,world unfortunately the cole young,character himself,is about the most i hate to say this the,boring,boringest part and flattest part and,part that,youre like thats not right so it,doesnt really click,right and this is crazy because mortal,kombats character but joe,mortal comments characters are wild,theyre stupid theyre,you know all over the place right yes,but it makes sense in the internal world,and and,cole has his own set of abilities and,powers here and when i see them come to,fruition im like,huh no i im just,not a fan unfortunately of the new,character and its a damn shame because,that the cole young situation never,needed to happen,okay already you pissed off a bunch of,people by not having johnny cage in the,film,theres no johnny cage he is a fan,favorite the director should have known,better,honestly you could have just said cole,young was johnny cage,theres no reason why uh louis tan,couldnt have been johnny cage right,he could have been a hollywood actor and,you still get the audience,surrogate johnny cage is that he would,have played perfectly,that is exactly the formula from the,first movie thats how it worked johnny,cage in the very first movie was like,what is happening,what is going on my agent sent me here,and johnny cage was holding our hands we,were johnny cage in the first movie,and here they give us coal and,theyre like you you are cold like you,dont know anything about this movie and,then they give them powers,that are awful yeah and it doesnt help,and then so youre like oh youre gonna,be this guy that no one knows its like,okay thats cool at least,am i cool do i get to do cool stuff no,no you you know remember that boxing,episode of the simpsons,where homers powers he can take punches,thats you,hes like but i dont really do any like,punchy things nope you you take,punishment yeah

right well I already reviewed the,first Mortal Kombat movie which I liked,I thought was pretty good good,especially back then then there was a,sequel annihilation and Ive avoided it,for so long because I heard nothing but,good nothing but bad things about it,yeah and now all these years later,finally watched it the first time ever,and,its great its [ __ ],but its great its something its,something movies that are so bad theyre,good this is so shitty its great is,that what youre doing so its maybe,because I was expecting it to be boring,it was not born oh no no its real fast,paced its a little every scene its,like somethings happening and youre,just like like holy [ __ ] its like a,Power Rangers episode yeah exactly you,know we were saying that when we were,watching I was like this seems like a,Power Ranger up so not a move yeah cuz,every fight scene its a character from,the game yes around by henchman much,like Power Rangers had the monitor and,the play theyre all the parties like,their food seems like a lot of green,screen a lot of crazy lights no they,like chroma keep the sky as you know,effects and like if you look at the,characters of that opening scene yeah,like their heads are kind of,disappearing because theyre so sure,because the national effect like clearly,they shot on the location theyre like,oh I want the sky to be weird its like,oh well put a filter on it no I wanna,digitally replace the sky so like,Ramons head is like disappearing into,the sky,Raiden gets thrown through a bunch of,bricks like every five second time he,stands up he gets a launch through,breaks his outfit like so I really at,the time I really loved the fur I still,loved the first movie I do so yeah as,Im older I realize its not the,greatest movie the story kinda doesnt,make sense but its still a lot of fun,yeah I was 15 and it was like you know,going to theater with my friends and it,was it was the first video game movie,tool to resemble the game yeah except,for the violence which was a letdown ya,know if it was our I wouldnt have been,able see thats true yeah so I was real,pumped for this as a kid Im like a,mortal kombat see what Shao Kahn hes,finally gonna come back and like my,grandfather took me to see it because he,knew I loved Mortal Kombat and Im like,this is probably this is probably the,first theater experience where Ive,walked out of the movie being like I was,it was even theatrical because of like,it looks like a made for like DVD I,right yes the newspaper had like a,little clipping for like a advertisement,I cut it out because I was so excited,huh my wall like annihilations coming,out and Im like oh that that was,something what thing is to like the,first one left me as a kid that movie,leaving me on a cliffhanger of Shao Kahn,coming down and and them going in a,fighting position and then youre its,just the end of the movie I remember,sitting there going oh oh I cant wait,oh the new one I cant wait for it to,come out and then it did when I finally,saw it it was on TV and Ive never been,more upset and disappointed even then,nothing held up yeah like the the,special effects are Barna and some of,the worst but we are V garbage I cant,believe it but its like I cant believe,someone was like this is ready for,theatrical release lets pump it to the,theaters no I said are we going to this,movie should never come out we need to,just Harriet if I think is like the,first movie okay theres the character,reptile starts like that weird CG,reptile yeah that was nothing compared,to good this one they have like every,other scene theres some like monster,thats what the CG like heres the thing,like that the first one comes out people,like it but they complain the CGIs bad,shriek later comes out people complain,theres too many characters yeah you,think this movie would learn from that,but alright maybe less CGI maybe work,better on the CGI and less actors no no,things like they double the [ __ ] they,were like oh less characters oh you mean,less of the original cast Sampras is,gone I thought it was he was,disconnected but they have I think was,just Liu Kang Id like to talk about,katana for a second yeah her names,katana but she doesnt use katanas you,know fans thats kind of like general,katana and Highlander – I think he uses,a broadsword,its like name someone katana then now,to have him fight with katana the thing,is – like when shes fighting those guys,you could tell how floppy those fans are,because,and all over the place,you know what I like about this movie it,looks like any of us could have made it,like if you get like the store-bought,costumes yeah get in front of a green,screen its like this could be done I,totally thought about that this week as,I was like editing things I was like,Ive done better special effects in,videos Ive done then this do let me,take a lot of time but we could do it,yeah I just want to say the the tombs,and the world miniature City I made for,Tomb Raider look most of the effects,like this look great that I watch work,out a dilation like oh my effects are,genius give me an award so about the,villains so okay okay the first movie,ends with Shao Kahn youre thinking okay,the next movies gonna be all about Shao,Kahn yeah but that wasnt enough they,had to have shinnok from Mortal Kombat,mythology shin is also not the father of,Raiden end yeah man I know,spoiler alert says the immortal line do,not underestimate the human spirit that,come from I like the line taller that,shelf on a mission yes Shao Kahn Im not,too big on the actor maybe because they,didnt keep the the mask on and the,shoulder pads the whole time but he,looks like Billy Zane but stung by a,bunch of these I love you guys you,played the bounty hunter x-files and,that and x-files they film them to be,like tall and imposing and serious and,this movie you think they cast them for,that reason I feel like all right talk,like an [ __ ] yeah and look shorter,than this elderly man also Im just,gonna say I hate every other villain in,this movie because they act like not,even well as like bad guy villain like,they are the corniest things ever,theyre Mortal Kombat (2021) – Movie Review

[Music],you know people ask me jeremy how do you,avoid copyright strikes,having zero tone when you sing theres a,pretty good way to do it,i guess well see so mortal kombat so,this mortal kombat movie is a new mortal,kombat movie its the first,live-action mortal kombat movie weve,had since mortal kombat annihilation,dont know what that says other than,hollywood not really having a lot of,faith in mortal kombat there have been,other live-action mortal commas we had,mortal kombat rebirth which became,mortal kombat legacy seasons one and two,mortal kombat conquest represent bam,its kind of a weird flex whatever it,came out at like midnight it was,summer school was out i would watch it,everyone else was in bed,ive always been a night owl thats just,me so now we have new mortal kombat,which,really its not mortal kombat yet its,like the prequel to mortal kombat,a prequel to a new mortal kombat not the,1995 movie mortal kombat,also titled mortal kombat and this,mortal kombat prequel titled mortal,kombat will lead into the mortal kombat,tournament,titled mortal kombat anyhow they did,kind of bum me up because i like the,tournament i like the tournament,logistics i like a world of rules i like,the fact that its like oh no,outworld is trying to invade earth,realms trying to hold them off,but there are rules you know they cant,just kill off people that theres a,tournament and this movie was kind of,weird because i guess you,can just send sub-zero out there to,start killing people if theyre going to,take place in the tournament,i half expected raiden to come down in,his,thunder and be like my sideshow freaks,attacked my fighters,that is expressly forbidden before the,tournament but not here though here hed,be like your psycho freaks attacked my,fighters,which is kind of how it happens in this,movie,completely within the rules keep your,head on a swivel,be prepared they might try to kill you,in your house,im kind of getting ahead of myself,first of all this movie starts out,amazing because it starts out with a,scorpion sub-zero backstory and that,backstory like,that was a hard hook for me back in the,day when i was a kid and if youre one,of those mortal kombat fans are clocking,into this movie for the blood,the blood and gore is here too quite a,few fatalities death blood everywhere,rated r because theyre like everyone,who watched the pg-13 mortal kombat,movie theyre all,40 now at least its fine and some of,the characters in this movie are good,and great theres a contrast the,contrast between,wooden and boring and quite literally,[ __ ] amazing that contrast is all,here with mortal kombat character even,in the middle you have the ones that are,like yeah theyre good like sonia and,jax i thought they were good the two,standouts for me you would think of,scorpion,scorpions not really in this movie as,much as the trailer might have alluded,to him being in this movie so,sorry that the trailer kind of lied to,you but sub-zero i thought sub-zero was,badass they did some great things with,sub-zero including but not limited to,some horror movie elements like people,be hanging out youll see,fractals growing on the window you know,its all getting icy its like oh my god,hes coming and it answers that very,simple question weve been asking for,decades what would it look like if,sub-zero attacked a family out of,mcdonalds here we go,weve all kind of wanted to see that,right mortal kombat characters,in the real world with their magic,abilities and yeah theyll blow some,minds so its kind of cool to see that,but sub-zero was hardcore and hes,behind sub-zero,so you know hes a dick and the number,one the standout dude kano,give it up volcano slow clap for kano i,thought kano,in a word in this movie is kano,i thought he was completely the soul of,the character,and he kind of made the movie hes,talking [ __ ] hes talking [ __ ] well hes,disrespecting,any and all characters he can this kano,in this movie is a complete dog,and i love him for it and this movie has,some solid fights but again with the,contrast there are some fights that are,quite literally amazing and some fights,were i was like that was kind of shoddy,and quick and,thats it kind of a bummer this movie is,all about contrast between good and bad,this movie definitely has some give and,take,though i think every mortal kombat,adaptation has give and take its like,every mortal kombat thing,ever except the story in mortal kombat,9. i still think thats the,quintessential mortal kombat story,all right some fun fights some great,gore some good fatalities that you will,recognize also some fan service where,youre like,i didnt expect to see that reference,for that character,that was fun thats there for the fans,but all right in a world of talking,about characters going back to kano,if it wasnt for kano i probably would,have been bored in this movie because a,lot of the,characters i didnt feel that synergy,with them they might have been fine on,their own but you do need that team,synergy and whatever the flaws that the,mid-90s the original mortal kombat movie,has whatever cheese is in there one of,the things it did right was it had that,feeling of synergy that feeling of a,team between sonia,liu kang and johnny cage this movie,doesnt really have that,feeling its more or less kano and other,people kane win the generics,kano and the boars are being a little,harsh because to be fair i did like,sonia and jax but really,coal is the forefront here coal is the,chosen one,im not above a mortal kombat adaptation,creating new characters out of the blue,even though theres,nearly a hundred characters to pick from,inexisting lore but dude i just flashed,my mortal kombat conquest,series dvd that made [ __ ] up so im not,above it but the bummer is,coles not that interesting his,character is just kind of boring hes a,bit,wooden also liu kang and kung lao in,this movie,and theyre boring too i dont know if,borings a word definitely,id say generic they feel like generic,support characters,just came out of the blue theyre kind,of pushed to the side and again theyre,not that interesting i mean they have,their superpowers that make them them,from the game what doesnt make them,interesting it just means theyre,generic people with superpowers so the,problem i have with them making this,character coal up and making him the,center of attention here is that if,youre gonna make a new character,up at least iron out the legacy,characters who have earned,that spot but they didnt they pushed,the legacy characters to the side to,make room for this guy,whos not that interesting thats,probably not a good thing to do,and ive seen this argument out there,and if youre one of these people if,youre in this,boat then youre probably going to be,fine with it but ive seen people be,like dude this mortal kombat just give,me the blood give me the fights i am,good but thats,not how i am with mortal kombat i guess,there are two camps of mortal kombat,fans gore before,lore and lore before gore its all about,which one you are and although,the gore and the blood was a nice hook,for young me i was like,look at that the reason i stuck around,with mortal kombat was because the,characters and the lore were next level,amazing i had not seen storytelling like,this in a fighting game ever so since,mortal kombat 1 i just kept with it,all my life not always the smoothest,storytelling a lot of retcons a lot of,retcons to the retcons when people die,they never stay dead they always come,back and it makes you feel like there,arent a lot of stakes in mortal kombat,but,man i love that lore so its not just,fights in blood the story and the,characters of mortal combat is a,big piece of it for me this is way,better than annihilation,lets just say that now lets just get,that out of the way so theres,no mincing words here but annihilation,did do that thing where its like heres,a mortal kombat character,you get no backstory with them but you,know its the anyhow,theyre here to fight thats why theyre,her

Mortal Kombat – Flawed Victory

mortal kombat is a dumb as [ __ ] movie,with paper-thin,characters questionable acting and a,ludicrous plot that makes about as much,sense as amy schumer still getting,acting gigs,but its also unpretentious self-aware,fun,if youre willing to disengage your,brain for a couple of hours and a,surprisingly good stab,adapting a classic fighting game into,some kind of structured movie,i mean lets be honest here the,benchmark isnt exactly high,the original mortal kombat from 1995,gets a lot more credit than i think it,deserves,relying on a potent combination of,nostalgia kick-ass techno soundtrack and,deliberately schlocky direction to,disguise the fact that its really kind,of [ __ ],and as for the sequel well the less said,about that one the better,youre alive too bad you,will die,but if the past 10 years have taught us,anything at all its that hollywood is,always game for a remake,and in this case i think theyve pulled,off the near impossible,and actually improved on the original,with this one,you serious thats not to say its,particularly good or anything but at,least its heading in the right,direction,anyway let me see if i can make some,kind of sense of this,the movie begins in feudal japan where a,gang of ninjas led by sub-zero,attacked hanzo hasashis home killing,his wife and kids,and eventually him as well but instead,of just dying like a normal person he,kind of explodes in a fiery mass and,vanishes,uh okay flash forward to the present day,and a war is going on between factions,from two different realities,on the one side the good guys led by the,thunder god ryden,represent the people of earth on the,other the bodies led by shang tsung,represent the forces of a barren,alternate universe known as,outworld every so often chosen warriors,from both realms have to fight each,other in an epic tournament,known as mortal combat with the fate of,both realms hanging in the balance,who exactly chooses these fighters and,why how is this tournament arranged and,judged,are there referees why would an evil,sorcerer bent on planetary conquest,adhere to such an agreement why does he,want to conquer earth so badly anyway,if theres no particular rules to these,fights then whats to stop you taking a,gun,into your fight and just [ __ ],shooting your opponent,why does sub-zero not age in 300 years,dont know anyway whatever the point is,the earth realm has lost the last nine,tournaments,and if they lose one more then shang,tsung takes control of everything,so the objective is to find the chosen,warriors from earth and prepare them for,whats coming next,enter cole young a block of wood mma,fighter with a spotty record and a,mysterious dragon birthmark,who soon comes under attack from,sub-zero only to get rescued by sonia,blade and jax,a pair of former military operatives,that have been trying to learn the,secrets of mortal combats,before you can see a contrived plot,device theyve soon fallen in with a,mercenary named kano and they travel to,rydens temple to begin their training,with a couple of other characters,that only fans of the game will even,recognize naturally shang tsung wants to,stop them before theyre able to master,their full power,so he launches an all-out attack on the,temple but ryden raises a magic [ __ ],shield around the place to stop him,getting in,its a bit like wakanda from the mcu,only more believable,but wouldnt you know it the [ __ ],thats been acting shifty for the whole,movie ends up betraying them,and from then on its basically every,man for himself,a fighting tournament of sorts emerges,who could have predicted this,so the final act of the movie is,basically a chaotic conglomeration of,different fights,until everyone thats left ends up,wailing on sub-zero without mercy,[ __ ] man even hanzo comes back to life,just so he can burn the guy alive,and the movie ends with shang tsung,promising to come back in the next movie,and finish this once and for all,meanwhile cole sets out to find a,protagonist with more charisma than a,block of wood and thats it thats the,plot for mortal kombats,you know its a funny sort of movie to,review because pretty much everything i,would look for in a film like this,is basically irrelevant in this case,plots,forget it its just an excuse to,facilitate the next fight scene,none of it makes a lick of sense and,none of the outlandish world building is,explained or expanded upon,characters nah theyre not really a,thing here none of them have got more,depth than a puddle of piss,and for the life of me ill never,understand why they chose cole young for,the main character,not only is he boring as [ __ ] compared,to the established mortal kombat,regulars,but hes played by an actor that avoids,charisma in the same way melissa,mccarthy avoids salad bars,seriously youve got liu kang scorpion,sonia blade and jax in your movie and,you chose this [ __ ] nobody to be the,voice of the audience,jesus ive seen more personality in a,captain marvel fan club,kano at least gets to have some much,needed fun,leave it to a big file mouth [ __ ],aussie to lighten the tone,it feels like all the charisma had to be,sucked out of the other characters just,to sustain him but its worth it to give,us a character thats actually enjoyable,to watch,its just a shame he gets his ass kicked,by basically everyone,so hes never really allowed to present,a threat but lets be honest here,you dont exactly watch your mortal,kombat movie for the thought-provoking,storylines and nuanced characters,youre here because you want to see,people beating the [ __ ] out of each,other,and to be fair the movie delivers on its,violent source material in a way the 90s,original never could theres plenty of,blood and guts and limbs getting,shattered and while it never quite,reaches the ludicrous levels of the,games,at least it doesnt feel like a total,cop-out either but i cant help but,think if youve already got the r rating,you should probably go for broke and,just hit the audience with everything,youve got,the fight choreography could charitably,be described as solid rather than,spectacular,occasionally dragging on for a bit too,long and clearly some of the actors are,more competent fighters than others,but the movie usually delivers just,enough action and gore to hold your,interest,just imagine how much more engaging it,would have been if youd actually cared,about any of the characters,and in that sense it does feel like a,little bit of a wasted opportunity,like it could have been so much more,overall though mortal kombat is a simple,unpretentious undemanding action movie,that knows exactly what it is and who,its appealing to,fans of the games will probably get a,kick out of all the characters,references in jokes and special moves,while most normal people will come away,wondering what the [ __ ] they just,watched,it certainly isnt going to win any,awards and anyone expecting a martial,arts extravaganza like the raid is,definitely going to end up disappointed,but neither does it make any attempt to,preach pander or lecture,which in 2021 is practically an,endorsement all by itself,just like godzilla vs kung mortal combat,is the kind of film you can kick back,with a few beers,and enjoy without expending a single,brain cell from start to finish,and to be honest sometimes i think,thats all you really needs,anyway thats all ive got for today,go away now
