HockeyShot Tiles Review – New Tiles VS Old Tiles
whats up guys Jeremy here with the,hockey movement in this video Im,testing the new hockey shot training,tiles what Ill be doing is comparison,of their new tiles versus their old,tiles so the new tiles have this puzzle,piece design the old tiles have this,loop and clip system so it should be a,little bit easier to put these together,but well find out youll also notice,that these ones are a little bit,flimsier the new ones than the old ones,the old ones seem a little bit more,heavy-duty so Im gonna be testing and,durability and of course Im gonna be,testing how well the puck slides so how,easy are they to setup and teardown how,durable are they and how well does that,puck slide all the things you guys want,to know lets take a closer look and I,will set them up you look at the old,tiles first how they would put together,is with these loops and these hooks and,what you do is lay those down here and,then lay that down there and youd place,them right there and basically you stomp,on them it wasnt too hard to put them,together took a little bit of time to,take them apart though you had to get it,right if you pulled on the wrong side,youd be pulling up and you could end up,breaking these clips so if I pull up on,this one its not gonna refer it if I,pull up on this one it does so there,were some issues with some of these,little clips breaking and people were,having trouble taking it apart so hockey,shot looked to fix that problem with the,simple puzzle piece design let me show,you how that works these ones are really,simple to put together theres no wrong,way to do it basically you just drop,them into place and you push down and,they snap into place now to take them,apart you just pull up anyway and you,pull them up so theyre really easy to,put down really easy to take up you can,see they have these little teeth on them,and those teeth help keep them clipped,into place so they dont come up what,Ive noticed though is that you have to,make sure you push every single one down,what happens is if you dont push every,single one down there could be a little,bit of a ledge back here and then if the,puck hits that its gonna flip pop so,just run your fingers along it to make,sure that youve got every single one,clipped into place and youll hear them,snap down now what Im pretty interested,in is the durability of the new tiles I,was surprised when I pulled them out of,the box that they felt flimsier than the,old ones theyre not as beefy for sure,you can tell these ones are kind of,flopping around and these ones arent,these are the new ones and I can grab,them and just basically bend them so,with the old tiles they feel a lot more,solid and rigid and I think its because,of the structure on the bottom if you,look at the bottom of the old tiles you,can see that its a bit of a thicker,plastic and its all connected and,I think gives it a more solid structure,whereas if we look at the bottom of the,new tiles its a thinner plastic and,they arent all connected and I think,thats why its really easy to bend them,what Im gonna do is grab a hockey stick,and slash this tunnel then Im gonna,slash this tile Im gonna see if they,take any damage lets do that right now,ladies and gentlemen today Ill be,slashing these tiles with the Gansett,hockey stick from zeal hockey slap shot,test seems to hold up pretty well,light slapper test doesnt look like,theres any dents or dings from your,typical slap shot Ill try a bit of a,harder slapper and continue with that,same sweeping motion no marks or dings,on the old tile no marks or dings on the,new tile but you do see a bit of a scuff,thats because Im using that black,hockey tape lets take some full-on hard,slashes all right here it is the Crosby,finger chopper looks like there are some,marks on the old tiles and there are,some marks on the new tiles so no matter,what dont slash your tile sticks good,Ill abuse these things a little bit,more and Ill give you a close-up of,luck,take a look at the damage on the old,tile as you can see theres a few dents,here and there but theres no cracking,so it didnt permanently damage it you,could still stick in over that no,problem same thing over here theres a,little bit of a dent but it didnt crack,or permanently damaged the tiles I would,like to test that in the wintertime to,to see if anything would happen with the,new ones I know what the old ones they,hold up fun in the winter time Ive used,them that aside of my garage the new,ones I would have to test that in colder,temperatures but youll have to wait for,that one ever since Ive been reviewing,hockey products Ive noticed that every,surface uses a very smooth finish which,is great right when you get it but as,you stick handle and use it a bit it,pretty much gets gummed up and chewed up,and everything pretty much feels the,same after a month no matter how smooth,it is right out of the box it feels the,same after a month so a hockey shot with,their new tiles theyve added this matte,finish and Ive noticed right out of the,box a regular puck does not slide as,well lets set these up though and take,a look at how the puck slides on a big,surface Im gonna set up the old tiles,first thing the time and see how long it,takes me to set 15,000 lets go,time just over two minutes not too bad I,do have some experience putting those,down though what Im gonna do now is lay,down the new tiles but in a different,pattern and Ill see how long it takes,me to put those down this pattern I,recommend if you only have a small,amount of tiles and you want to maximize,the space Ill tell you why right after,this,[Music],Jim and done so that pattern took me,three minutes to lay down Id say for,simplicity standpoint the new ones are,easy to put together because you dont,have to rotate or guess I know how to,put these ones down theres a certain,pattern you have to follow if you dont,you have to tear them all up and then,redo it again so for simplicity the,newer ones are easier but because you,have to fit every puzzle into the next,one you do have to go along and make,sure the edges are smoother that takes a,little bit more time this is a setup,that I really like because it maximizes,the space around you which is really,what you want to work on when youre,practicing you want to work on moving,the puck around your entire body so,theres a lot more you can do with fewer,tiles with 16 tiles I have a springer,Im not really using the space,underneath my feet so why bother putting,tiles there here I can work on moving,the puck wide wide I could just bring it,back and then get a shot I can work on,shooting from my side right here I can,work on a fake shot bring it across,whereas if Im over here on almost the,same tiles I missed one right there for,16 but Im really only hitting the,outside edge so its not bad if youre,doing only stickhandling to have a,square then you can work on code rags,and through the feet move stuff like,that but if youre working on,stickhandling moving crossovers wider,movements like that then I really,recommend setting the tiles up this way,now Im going to test how well the new,tiles slide compared to the old ones,using a regular hockey puck and a few,dryland training boxer I have a couple,of green biscuits and I have the hawk,shot off ice training puck,I never go dig your foot in Nuggets off,the boards like the manna mode bring,if youre gonna keep it knocking to this,beam is how to order dusting off our,shoulders pick your poison buddy yeah,Ill pick it for you,tell em Im the king at this sturdy I found with a,regular puck they had a little bit,better glide than the new tiles from,hockey shot and to be honest its kind,of hard to notice the difference unless,you test them side by side ,No matter what your budget may be, self-stick vinyl,is a great flooring option.,Its affordable, durable, and comes in a variety of styles.,Theyre also highly resistant to dents, stains, and scuffs.,So today, were going to go over how you can install self-stick vinyl tiles.,Most vinyl tiles sold today has a peel-and-stick backing.,Its a good product that makes the job of installation a little easier, which,is why homeowners love it.,Its important to point out that vinyl flooring must,be used in a temperature-controlled environment,before, during, and after installation.,In fact, not acclimating the products for 48 to 72 hours,in the room of installation may result in the failure of the adhesive.,Installation requires that you first properly prepare the subfloors,before laying the tiles.,The adhesive is already on the back of the tile.,All ready to go?,Lets do this.,All right, the first step is surface preparation.,Self-stick vinyl tiles can be installed over a variety of subfloors, including,concrete, plywood, or sheet vinyl.,No matter what the surface, it must be free of old adhesive, moisture,,and dust.,It must be smooth before any tile installation.,For porous floors like concrete or wood, youll need a latex floor primer.,The primer must dry completely before any installation occurs.,Step two is where well plan out the installation.,With backing still on the tile, begin mapping out your tiles.,Start by identifying the center of the room.,Measure out the length and width of the room,and draw guidelines from the center of each wall using a chalk line.,Use the intersection of your lines to find the center of the room.,This is a crucial step and will make sure you,have enough tiles to finish the room.,Make sure all tiles are from the same lot and batch.,Mixing tiles and planks can cause visual inconsistencies.,Step three, place the tiles.,From the center out, start to place your tiles.,Avoid space at the edges of the room by adjusting the arrangement of the tiles.,You dont want less than 6 inches.,Step four, peel the backings and apply the tiles.,Remove the backing from the first placed tile in the center of the room.,Press it down firmly.,To keep the work area clean, have a trash bag or small can handy,while you work to collect the release papers as theyre removed.,The next tile should be installed tightly,against the edge of the initial tile.,Install the remaining tiles in a step pattern, working one section at a time.,Step five, fix any end tiles.,Its possible that the last tile in a row may need to be cut to fit.,Trim the tile by placing it over the last full tile.,Then place another full tile against the wall.,Use this method to mark a cutting line where the tiles overlap.,For irregular cuts, make a pattern and transfer it to a tile.,Score the top of the tile gently.,Test the template to ensure it fits.,Then if its set, you can remove the backing and place the tile.,Be sure to place the cut against the wall.,Step six, roll your floor.,To assure your tiles are set firmly, its,important to use a roller on the finished tiles.,Roll back and forth in both directions to bond the tiles to the floor.,Install the wall base and moldings to complete the project.,Once finished, we suggest waiting five days before washing the floor.,Self-stick vinyl tiles are not only easy to install,,theyre a beautiful addition to your home.,Plus, theyre extremely durable and maintenance-free.,Before you go ahead and get your floor started, make sure,you have all the right resources.,Tool wise, youll need a tape measure, a chalk line, a utility knife,,a carpenters square, and a roller.,Your subfloor will determine what youll need to prepare it.,Got any questions?,Head over to your local Home Depot and ask the folks,in the flooring department.,Theyve got you covered.,

PAINTING TILE! Did my painted floor tiles last after 2 years??
– I painted my floor tiles 2 1/2 years ago,,but did they last?,Today Im gonna show you.,(upbeat electronic music),Hey, everyone, its Christina from TheDIYMommy.com.,One of my most popular videos here on the channel,is my DIY painted and stenciled floor tile video.,You guys loved that video,and the idea of taking existing floor tiles,,giving them a coat of paint,,and making them look new and fresh.,Ive received so many questions on that video,and the number one question I get asked is,,”Did these floor tiles last?”,Im gonna give you that update today,,show you exactly how they look today,2 1/2 years after I did the DIY,,plus Im gonna answer all of your FAQs on that video,,like how I clean them.,Lets get started.,So the first question is,,”Can you even paint floor tile?,”Is this a legitimate thing that you can do?”,My answer is yes, absolutely.,I did and Ive seen a ton of other people do it too.,It is a legitimate thing,that you can do to your floor tile,to give it an update,when you dont wanna completely rip out your tile,and replace it.,In my experience and opinion,,you can pretty much paint almost anything you want,,but what it boils down to is the correct preparation,,the right product,,plus how you seal everything up at the end,to protect your work.,As mentioned, I did a full video,on this floor painting tutorial step by step,,so make sure to hit up here,or in the description box below,to see that whole tutorial.,But I wanna quickly go over how I painted my floor tile.,Step number one was I sanded everything.,Now, my floor tiles are ceramic.,This is in my work studio, not my home.,Its a little square in the corner,where I have a wood stove.,Just to be clear,,I do not use this wood stove,and I failed to mention that verbally in my video.,I did mention it in the description,but I should have mentioned it in the video.,Ill talk a little bit more about that in the end.,What the sanding does,is it roughs up the surface of the tile,so that paint is more likely to stick to the tile.,I used a power sander and 120 grit sandpaper,,but you could also sand by hand.,The second step I did,was I taped off any trim and baseboards,that were around my area.,Now, you could completely remove baseboards,and trim if you want.,I could have done that here,but I decided to just tape everything as best I could.,Step number three was I took some chalk-style paint.,This is Rust-Oleum Chalked paint in a charcoal color,,which is very close to black,,and I took a smaller detail brush,to go over all of the grout lines,and the edges of my tiled area.,I get asked a lot if you can use different types of paint.,You sure can.,You could also choose to use a really sticky primer,and then another type of paint,and then a different type of sealant than I did.,Im just showing you what I did,and how it worked out in the end.,Next, I used a foam roller to apply the rest of the paint,to the rest of the tiled area.,You probably know that I love foam rollers,for that smooth finish.,Ive used it on cupboards,,Ive used it on accessories,,and I used it on this floor here.,I just like the finish that it provides,and you wont see any brush strokes.,So you could go on to the sealing part after this step,but for my little studio area here,,I wanted to add some pattern,so I took these stencils,,theyre from Cutting Edge Stencils,,Ill link them in the description box below,,and used some white Chalked paint,to put a pattern on the tiles.,The really important part here,is you have to use a thin coat of paint,when youre doing stencils,,otherwise its going to bleed through the stencil.,So its better to have a few thin coats of paint,rather than one thick coat of paint.,A lot of you on the original video,did not like the stencil I used,or would have preferred something different,and of course you can do something different.,This is just what I did for my own room.,Next you can use a really small craft brush,,I just used my kids craft brush,,to touch up any areas of the stencil,that you may have made mistakes on or missed.,Use either color,and just touch up all of the little details.,So many of you were wondering,why I didnt move the wood stove here in my studio,and the reason was I knew that I could touch up,the stencil areas around the legs,,plus it is several hundred pounds,and it is attached to the ceiling,,so I didnt really feel like it was worth the extra effort,to move it in and out of my particular space.,However, you might wanna do something different,in your space.,Once everything is completely dry,,here is one of the most important parts, in my opinion,,is to take a top coat product,like a Varathane Polyurethane,and go over all of your work in at least two coats,,even three or four.,And what this does is its a clear top coat,and it protects all of that paintwork underneath.,You wanna make sure every coat is completely dry,before you put on the next coat.,I just used a foam brush to apply this one as well.,You certainly can use different types of top coats.,This is just the one that I really like to use,for a variety of different projects,and Ive had some really good results with it.,Again, check out that link in the description box below,for this full step-by-step tutorial.,I think its really important,to seal tiles if you plan to paint them,because, again, like I said,,it provides that top layer,so that the paint underneath,is less likely to chip or flake away or wear.,Now, how do you clean painted floor tiles?,I simply use exactly the same products and method,that I use on the rest of the flooring in my home,,which is a mixture of laminate flooring,and regular tile flooring.,I use a mop and just an all-purpose cleaner.,I like mixing a little bit of Pine-Sol with water,or I have used the Mrs. Meyers all-purpose cleaners as well,and I just go ahead and sweep the floor as per usual,,as I would any other flooring in my home,,and then I just go ahead and mop it.,Again, what I think helps is that protective top coat,so youre not accidentally scratching away,at anything in that flooring.,If you happen to have any stuck-on residue on your tile,,I would just be careful,not to use any sort of metallic,or really hard scraping tool to get that off.,Maybe stick to something a little bit more pliable, softer,,like a little plastic spatula or something like that.,So heres the big question:,how durable are DIY painted tiles?,Do they last? hey guys jeff from home renovation here,and today were doing a consumer,advocate video,were discussing which one of these,vinyl luxury plank floorings do i prefer,the most,is it this one or this one were going,to talk about all the options on the,marketplace,and how you can avoid buying a bad,product thinking youre getting a good,deal,lets jump into this all right so before,we get into all the nitty-gritty lets,just break this down,what is vinyl flooring because,everybodys got a different answer,basically it is a vinyl finish,with a plastic or a wood plastic core,its either solid plastic or wood,plastic mix okay so thats where the wpc,spc,rating comes from it has to do with what,the flooring is made of,now you need first of all to understand,that,the idea of this being a waterproof,floor there is some validity to that but,if youre putting this in a basement,on your concrete and you dont have a,moisture barrier youre in trouble,especially if youre using the wpc,because wood is still joints are so tight,and the vinyl and the plastic thats in,them actually repels the water,it is waterproof up to a certain amount,of time the water sits on that floor,which is awesome and it was really good,that way you can install that in a,bathroom,in times past you didnt have a laminate,floor,as an option in a bathroom and i know a,lot of people have put that old wood,click together wood floor laminate in a,bathroom,and youve all experienced the same,thing it causes rot and stink and its,disgusting,you cant use that product there but,this one you can alright the other,reason they invented this is to go in,basements because theres a lot of,houses that dont have waterproofing,foundations,or vapor barrier under the concrete when,they pour the slab,and if you use a wood laminate in a,basement like that you have the same,problem,water destroys that wood laminate and,theyve tried to make the cores,you know water resistant or mold proof,theyve put in micro bantu,fungicide emulgicide and all that does,is just slow down the inevitable,destruction of the floor,its not a 25-year floor its a,five-year floor,so they made this stuff to replace the,application,of putting a click together,do-it-yourself flooring in a basement,okay thats why it was made so that you,dont use a product thats going to,self-destruct,in a basement or other wet areas now,having said that its also a great,option in a lot of other rooms now,because lets face it it has the best,wear layer thats on the market,this stuff wears better than hardwood,yeah i said it,all right this product here renovating a long time,and ive been in houses that have got,vinyl flooring from the 1940s,and that stuff is still in better shape,now than hardwood thats only two years,old,all right you can take that of,the drawbacks okay so we know its good,in wet areas,we know its great for durability we,know its diy friendly,but now you got to consider,well then why are there so many choices,and not just in color,theres a lot of choices in the design,in the locking system,now generally speaking even a few years,ago all the vinyl was very smooth and,didnt have a lot of texture to it,now its coming really embossed theres,all kinds of grain it looks like real,wood,so the quality as far as the finish has,gone way through the roof which is nice,but what about all the thicknesses why,do they make them all like this,and i think most of the answer is found,in well lets do the comparison,okay heres all the different,thicknesses now i went out,and i went shopping at the home depot,and the lowes and i grabbed their,products that are their flagship,products okay so were going to compare,home depot and lowes side by side here,but youre not going to know what they,are until the very end,fair enough we have a four millimeter,product,and it goes for 2.99 a square foot now i,know that might sound expensive,depending where you live in the world,i live in canada okay proud to be,canadian which means all of our stuff is,more expensive,so if you where you live its hey my,stuff isnt 2.99,its okay its about comparatively,speaking your,changes in price point are gonna be,relatively the same all right,so were gonna call it three bucks for,four millimeter,this product is a little thicker and,theyre charging 349.,thats a lot of difference right thats,50 cents a square foot,thats a big change for just a little,bit extra vinyl,is the locking system better i dont,know,well talk about all that in a second,next one over we got a five millimeter,product,again same price well,is that better than this its
