[Music],shutter island and when I saw the, trailer for this movie I did not think,Martin Scorsese Alfred Hitchcock No,maybe but now its Chris AZ but that, doesnt make the movie bad though, shudder Islands based off a novel by the,guy who wrote Gone Baby Gone in Mystic,River and personally Ive liked all the, movies based off his books now for those,of you who remember shutter island was, supposed to come out last November but,was pushed back to February but what the, studio said was financial reasons, because the studio would just never, light it was about that in any case its,out now so any shutter island DiCaprio, plays a US Marshal who along with his,new partner have been brought to shutter, island to investigate the mysterious, disappearance of one of their patients, after that welcome to Arkham Asylum e.x,no I really did enjoy this movie but for,me any movie that takes place in the, puzzle Factory has an automatic creepy, factor do it and this place is,definitely creepy it just has that, creepy loony bin look to it you know the,one Im talking about where like the, walls were made of wet slimy moldy brick, and hes probably some creepy mad doctor, scientists and a dungeon somewhere, flipping electrodes to his nipples bring, him back the Frankenstein monster you,get the idea creepy and thats pretty, much put DiCaprio thanks to this place, the mad doctor scientist nipples thing, and after a little investigating you get,the feeling if there are secrets and, shutter island that are not being said, and dicaprio was determined to blow the,lid off this place as for the acting it,was pretty solid in this movie ben, kingsley plays the head psychiatrist in,shutter island and the guys an,accomplished actor what can you say I,mean he wanted Oscar for playing Gandhi, then again he was also in the Love Guru, but lucky for us this was one of his, good roles you dont know if hes just a,really good doctor or a secretive douche, but whatever the case Ben Kingsley, played the role very well I got that man,to say that DiCaprio was also really, good and it puts just funny because Im,a guy and that means there was a time I,I just hated DiCaprio I hated him with a,passion because every girl would throw, their panties at any movie he was in,because he was in a movie about a,sinking boat and you have a secrets out, every guy on earth after Titanic just, hated DiCaprio because we just wanted to,be him I dont know but its safe to say, that for the past few years hes, established himself as a really good, actor and he shows it in this movie so,aces to you DiCaprio little bastard and,Mark Ruffalo plays DiCaprio his partner, which is funny because I didnt think,Ruffalo made movies anymore and he was, okay anyone could have played his role,oh I guess they had to get a guy that, wouldnt, overshadow DiCaprio we wouldnt want, that but I mean youre not really, watching the movie for Ruffalo youre, too busy admiring the crazies this movie, does a really good job at making you, feel like youre on an island full of,people who are just out of their minds I,mean you can just see it in the trailer, you got Rorschach from Watchmen I like, you you got Casey Jones from Ninja,Turtles with a big ol scar across his, face and that creepy Smeagol looking, chick from the trailer whos all like, but theres no big Indian smother and,Jack Nicholson with a pillow creepy, people though no theres talks that this, movie would have been up for Best,Picture and the Oscars had it come out,in November I dont really know about, that I mean if they had a category for, enjoyable psychological thriller that, shows the other side of Scorsese I mean, youd be up for that for sure I mean, ultimately Id watch the movie again if,that means anything so after weeks of,so-so movies we have a movie thats head, and shoulders above the rest at least of,the movies that have come out in 2010,and if youve liked what youve seen, here and youre morbidly curious enough,to see more because thats what I do I,make people morbidly curious then click,on the link in the sidebar to see more, and subscribe oh yeah, till next time Im Jeremy,[Music]

Shutter Island: Why Perspective is Everything

– to ti priznajem. Čak i nesvjesno izgovara glavnu svrhu priče. Uopće me ne poznajete.

Why SHUTTER ISLAND Broke Me

this video is sponsored by horrible you, know this place makes me wonder which, would be worse dont live is a monster, what a die is a good man, detective Teddy Daniels final statement,in Martin Scorseses adaptation of,shutter island still haunts me to this, day its solidified shutter island as,one of the first films to truly define,my perception of cinema as a way of,communicating deeply personal feelings, and sentiments I never mention it in my,videos because honestly Ive only ever, seen the film once and other than, reading the book its adapted from I,could never bring myself to watch it,again I think with AI that final, statement shutter island would still be,a solidly faithful adaptation of Danis,Lins novel but by extending beyond,Lins abrupt yet poignant conclusion it,transcends into something agonizingly,Pro find heartbreaking gut-wrenching,soul-destroying I could throw a,magnitude of words to describe the, impact Shutter Island had on me but I,think the best word is one that I use, quite a lot because its one of the few, descriptions you could give to a story, that would personally unnerve me,inconsequential the idea that the goal,or strive for purpose proves to be,insignificant trivial even thats all,the trials and tribulations you battle, through to seek clarity or truth and up,surmounting to an answer that you didnt, really want one that provides no,catharsis or fulfillment while we all, want the truth in life most of us fear, the reality the truth hurts and it can,be hard to comprehend, especially when the answer youre, searching for isnt in your fever it,takes everything you once believed in,and proves it to be invalid and futile, perhaps youre the problem maybe youre, whats wrong the bad guy even I recently,re-watched a shutter island again, because of this very specific line of,questioning I sometimes diet my morality, when it comes to interacting with others, and Im sure many of you can relate to,I dont mean it in a horribly detestable, sort of way Im sure you get where Im,coming from when I say Im unsure as to,what perception people have of me,because of how I made them feel due to,something I said or perhaps how they, preconceived me based on what theyve, heard from others this is even more,nerve-wracking when you think of,everything thats bad about yourself and, begin projecting it into everything that, you do to the point that it keeps, haunting you with a fear that youll, never escape your past no matter how, much you try to reinvent yourself, shutter island is a mystery thriller, about a detective trying to find a,missing patient only tandup facing his,own demons as he confronts the monster,he once was or still is it explores, morality and mental illness from the, perspective that humans are inescapably, flawed that nobody is free from sin and, that we shouldnt simply judge or,condemn with I at least trying to,understand each other whether that leads,to revelation or not,I know shutter island deals with a more, extreme perspective on this but as,someone who uses the genre to channel, fear into therapy like when I talked, about midsummer and hereditary,I see shutter island as about finding, comfort in your experiences by taking, horrors that we all try to reject or,repress an accepting peon as a vital, part of the healing process as,appropriately cliched as it is shutter, island is about using our human journey,to best understand the destination so,lets talk about it,[Music],to set the scene upon arriving at ash,Cliff Hospital for the criminally insane, detective Teddy Daniels and his partner,Chuck begin investigating the, disappearance of a patient call rachel, solando who drawing her three children, after following a series of clues and, being continually psychoanalyzed by the, creepy doctors Teddy discovers that he,is in fact the missing patient this, entire time and is following an,elaborately constructed roleplay, designed by the doctors as an,experimental new way to make him, confront his trauma and sanity after he,murdered his wife for joining their, children when I mentioned, inconsequential I was referring to the, stories bleak ending where despite, several field attempts to enact the, roleplay even after all this time Teddy, still reverts back to his delusions, prompting the doctors to resort to the, most extreme measure off in lobotomy, which will permanently stop his, aggressive behavior but in turn will, mentally impaired him forever its sad, because like the doctors you hope Teddy, will get better and he doesnt except, where Scorseses adaptation takes this, further is by introducing Teddys final, line where it heavily implies that he,consciously chooses to continue living, his lie rather than live every day with, the overwhelming guilt of his actions in,a way its an abstract form of suicide,no the thing is it seems that all anyone, ever talks about regarding Shutter,Island is the blatant foreshadowing of,its twist ending and to be blunt I think, its a completely superficial way of,appreciating the greater nuances of the, story much like the sixth sense noticing, the cracks in the setup is not the point, off the story with that mindset youre, actively denying yourself the, intricacies of the emotional journey, that defines the story if to be fair one, could argue that the subtle distractions,of the clues play right into Teddy, psyche while I respect, people like to point out the, foreshadowing to highlight the, cleverness of the filmmaking and the, necessity of attention to detail and, storytelling I also fear it runs the, risk off disingenuous lead evolving the, twist into something that seems purely, gimmicky to those less interested in the, emotional artsy fartsy side of things, what I love most about the storytelling,is that it has this poetic duality off a,man trying to cheer stowing the truth, while also actively running away from it,conversely the inconsequential ism of,teddys discoveries have a similar, jollity to the doctors who hold a,significance that tends to be,understated I have this radical idea, that if you treat a patient with respect, listen to him try and understand you, just might reach him,[Music],these patients Teddy cynically thinks, everyone is unsupportive and conspiring, against him that everyone is wearing, masks to hide ulterior motives, now I taking away the context of the, mystery and applying this logic to many, people with mental health issues, the notion it perpetuates the entire, time is that Teddy is all alone trapped,in his own bubble or specifically he,feels this way regardless of the, actuality which comes full circle when, his partner Chuck in the end revealed to,be his doctor goes missing in reality, they are the absolute opposite of the, villains theyve been cast to play their, very compassionate sensitive caring and, undoubtedly want to help him but like I,said at the beginning regarding, preconceived perception we tend to judge, people externally be astana little we,actually know of them hell theyre, trying so hard to delay the Boards, decision to lobotomize teddy because of,his violent tendencies by working around, the clock to prove their revolutionary, psychiatric experiment will work the, film especially is very cleverly cast by,having a change or perception on what, you know of by typecasting villains and, misunderstanding intent with like the, greater picture from their perspective I,dont think the story is truly trying to,hide the schematic from you but instead, give you enough suspicion to diet the, world around you you creating quite an,alienating atmosphere that really, accentuate s a loneliness brought on by,Teddys distrust I think when you put, aside Teddys crime the sheer, psychological realism generated by,Teddys anxiety and constant existential, questioning is exactly what an,over-thinker,at least from my perspective tends to do,I know everyones situation is different, thats why I dont speak for anyone, other than me yet I find this story, understands mental illness as more than, the simplistic fashion a lot of media, tends to perceive it as,its non-judgmental and never behaves, condescen

SHUTTER ISLAND (2010) Ending Explained + Analysis

[Music],hey everybody welcome to found flicks on,this sending explain well be looking at,one I know you guys have been begging, for shutter island the twisty thriller, set on a remote island near Boston that,is home to the criminally insane this, movie is absolutely exceptional on all, fronts especially the way the story, unfolds it really makes us feel along, for the ride with the marshal obsessed, with finding the truth which he does, even if its not the truth hes expected, first and foremost shutter island, continues the always legendary team-up,of star Leonardo DiCaprio and director,Martin Scorsese that began with gangs of,New York of course Leo gives an,incredible performance as usual going to,extremes of emotions and really makes, you feel for his characters painful, journey on the technical side the, cinematography by longtime Scorsese and,Tarantino collaborator Robert Richardson,is perfectly moody and the dream, sequences include some absolutely, breathtaking memorable images we also, cant forget about the set design of the,ash cliff hospital that really enhances, the feel of the movie and the design was, created based on specifications of a,doctor who actually worked at a similar, facility in the same period as the film, then of course theres a story itself, which not only includes a memorable, devastating twist but also has a lot of,other layers going on with it to explore,as well and unlike most twists kind of,movies shutter island is designed for, multiple viewings as Clues are littered, throughout youll most likely miss on,the first watch all that to say the, movie is awesome, and definitely worth watching first as,this video will be presented more from, the perspective of already having, multiple viewings under your belt so,lets begin our analysis of shutter, island breaking down everything about, the story the hidden details throughout,as well as explaining the ending while, our main story is that of our, protagonist Andrew uncovering the, secrets of the institution ash cliff is,actually playing a part in a much bigger, story than it first appears involving, the evolution of psychiatric care at the, time the story takes place in 1954 in,the field of therapy there was a war of,sorts amongst doctors about how to treat, the mentally insane particularly those, with violent natures too many, contemporary doctors these patients were, considered no longer human or monsters, and, unable to be cured which led to the rise,of lobotomies used on the patients to,make them easier to control in docile, this real wife movement was spearheaded,by one doctor in particular a doctor,Freeman who would actually travel the, country visiting mental hospitals and, performing lobotomies on the more, troublesome patients in the film this,old-school perspective is represented by,Max von Sydow as doctor nari who has no,compassion for his patients believing, them to be subhuman on the other hand a,more modern philosophy of treatment, began to emerge and counterbalance to,this this perspective represented by dr.,collie played by Ben Kingsley who, believes in treatment without the use of,painful surgery or simply drugging the, patient into submission but by treating, them with care and compassion to,hopefully cure them or at least help, them face their issues at the core of,their madness its this debate that, constructs the story of the film collie, and narrowing using a particular patient,of theirs to try out a radical new kind,of treatment at Callies behest an,extremely elaborate roleplay therapy, which he hopes will allow them to break, through to their most dangerous and, violent patient a disturbed man by the, name of Andrew ladies who suffered a,total mental break after the death of,his wife and three children, andrew is unable to deal with the, reality of what has happened and the, truth that he murdered his wife in his, case in order to suppress it his mind, created an entirely new personality,Teddy Daniels along with a fantastic, narrative about the tragedy to block out,his pain while the deaths of his family, caused this break,Andrew was first haunted by his time, serving in the Army during World War two,one particular incident during the, clearing of a concentration camp called,Dachau sticking with him long after hes, horrified seeing piles of dead prisoners,in the snow all taken out by the Nazi, forces knowing they were on their way,the commander attempted to kill himself, and is found by Andrew bleeding out on,the floor from his wound,Andrew stares coldly as the man dies, considering him a monster for killing, all those innocent people this being a,big factor of what Andrew feels later, after this the troops round up the, remaining German soldiers and brutally, slay them but was this justified for, what they did or a simply murder these, horrific sites never left,Andrews mind and upon returning to the,States and his wife to,Lloris and three children he began to,drink heavily to put his mind at ease, seeing that he drinks to avoid, confronting his problems this comes back,to bite him as he also avoids telltale, signs that Dolores is mentally ill, refusing to believe it and get her, treatment things first reach a dangerous, level when she writes their apartment on,fire in a suicide attempt but again, instead of getting her help Andrew moves, the family out to a lake house hoping a,change of scenery and getting out of the, city might be enough for Dolores this, proves to have tragic consequences when,Andrew returns home from working a case,as a US Marshal and discovers Dolores, completely soaked,Andrew asking why are you so wet baby, when looking to the lake he sees why, spotting the bodies of his three, children floating in the water, curiously he swims to them but its too, late all three are dead drowned by,Dolores whose mental illness has taken, over completely and in her distorted, mind, she believes that killing her children,is actually helping to save them Andrew,is devastated especially knowing he was, avoiding the truth about Dolores his, illness overwhelmed with guilt and anger,Andrew shoots his wife and kills her now, completely alone his entire family dead, understandably this is the tragedy that, breaks Andrew mentally creating the,Teddy persona in a form of dissociative, identity disorder teddy is similar to,Andrew both are u.s. marshals, but teddy is unburdened by this horrible, event in his past and as a result it is,completely mentally blocked out by,Andrew pushed into the subconscious, while the Teddy persona takes over after, the trial regarding the murder of his, wife,Andrew was sent to ash Cliff a hospital, for the criminally insane where he,stayed as a patient for two years and, what Andrew has to do in order to get, better is come to terms with the, memories that he has worked so hard to,avoid only after accepting the painful, truth will Andrew the original man be,brought back during his stay at Ashe, cliff along with the Teddy persona came,an extremely elaborate fiction related,to what happened in Teddys mind his, wife was killed by a different man, called Andrew ladis his real name but to,his shoe guilt has manifested another, person entirely as being responsible for,her murder this person is not real but, part of the fantasy constructed in,Andrew slashed Teddys mind in a,addition to this as andrew is suffering, from hallucinations rather than, believing the hospital staff are who, they actually are has also created new, roles for them as part of his fantasy, narrative this brings us to the events,of the film where dr. collie stages an,elaborate roleplay as one final, desperate attempt to break through to,Andrew getting everyone in the facility, involved each playing a part to actually, feed into Andrews fantasy the intent is,to lead him through his fantasy and play, into it at every step to prove to him, that its not real in the end bringing, him to face his past to hopefully bring,Andrew back this experiment is what we,see unfolding over the course of the, film the roleplay begins with Andrew, heading towards the island again playing,a US Marshal supposedly

Shutter Island: Is It Deep or Dumb? (Leonardo DiCaprio) – Wisecrack Edition

What’s up guys, Helen here.,At Wisecrack there’s nothing we like more than having our minds bent by movies.,Whether we’re wrapping our brains around multiple layers of dreamland faux-reality,,witnessing a ballerina totally losing her shit, or watching a dude explore the intricacies,of indoor plumbing, we tend to absolutely love it when our movies turn our brains into, jello.,And arguably, few films are quite as mind-bendy as Martin Scorcese’s 2010 thriller, Shutter,Island.,The film has more twists and turns than a Chuck-E-Cheese playground slide, but we’ve,always found the reveal at the end to be more than vaguely predictable.,In the late 90s and early 2000s a lot of movies featured a twist revealing our protagonist’s,warped perspective: Fight Club, A Beautiful Mind, The Machinist, Identity, etc.,Coming out in 2010, it seemed like Shutter Island was a little late to the party, leaving,us at Wisecrack wondering…,Is that all there is to it?,Is this movie as smart as you’d expect from one of Americas most celebrated filmmakers?,Is there something deeper going on?,Let’s find out in this Wisecrack Edition on Shutter Island: Deep,or Dumb?,Oh and for the second time – spoilers ahead.,Alright guys let’s do a little recap: Shutter Island places us in a creepy mental institution, made creepier by its convenient isolation from society vis-a-vis a shit-ton of water.,Leo plays ugly-tie-wearing Teddy, a US Marshall investigating the disappearance of Rachel,Solando, one of the island’s dangerous criminal inmates whose favorite hobbies include drowning, her children and then blacking out.,Soon, we meet the requisite sketchy psychiatrists, including one who’s definitely Nazi-curious.,When head shrink Dr. Cawley proves shady and doesn’t cooperate with the investigation,,things seem increasingly more sinister.,All the while, Teddy has a ton of trippy flashbacks, reliving the various traumas of his life ranging, from liberating the Dachau concentration camp to losing his wife to a fire.,Also, turns out that the guy who started said fire, Andrew Leidis, is at this mental institution, and Teddy wants to track him down.,This whole mission culminates in him “discovering” the “real” Rachel Solando hanging out,by an international rat convention, claiming to be a psychiatrist who discovered that the, doctors are using lobotomies and experiments as part of a top-secret government program,to develop mind control techniques.,Yikes!,Only things are about to get wilder: we find out that Teddy is actually Andrew, who became, psychotic after killing his wife because she killed their three children.,On top of that, his entire investigation was actually just an elaborate LARPing experiment, conducted by the asylum to help rid Teddy — I mean Andrew… um, I’m just gonna call, him Teddy, okay?– of his illusions as a slightly-demented form of role-play therapy while presumably, also giving this doctor & patient amateur acting troupe a chance to show off their chops.,Oh also, unless Leo acknowledges the truth about his past, and accepts the totality of,his identity, he’s going to be lobotomized.,He’s like “hard pass” and heads up to the creepy lighthouse to go get his brain, jiggled by chopsticks.,The end!,Even if you’ve seen Shutter Island, that synopsis might read like your most ADHD friend, trying to get through a campfire story.,It’s helpful here to contextualize this movie as an homage to high and lowbrow film, noir traditions.,Film noir was the catch-all phrase for this special brand of film that particularly flourished, post World-War 2.,It featured dark shadows, unreliable narrators, weird-angled shots, and perhaps most iconically:,plots that involve plenty of unexpected twists and dramatic reveals, but maybe aren’t 100%,airtight.,All of the above could just as easily describe Shutter Island.,Indeed, this film is almost pulpy in the way it purely revels in every noir trope – from, the creepy cemetery to the fantastical dream sequences to the narrator with the slowly-revealed,“dark past,” especially one rooted in World War II.,With mental asylums, a looming tall building – in this case a lighthouse, creepy staircases,,casual semi-Nazis, and more, the film almost reads like a grab-bag of noir traditions.,That Scorcese was deliberately evoking noir is important in parsing the film.,That’s because, in general, noir films are less concerned with narrative coherence than, they are with mood, atmosphere, and conveying the psychological condition, usually suffering,,of their protagonist.,We’re going to treat Shutter Island like a noir and say upfront: The narrative plot, has a lot of turns and arguably doesn’t add up.,But that’s almost literally irrelevant.,What’s more interesting is whether the film compellingly depicts Teddy’s psychological, condition, and in the process, reveals anything about us slash humanity at large.,So with that caveat, let’s dive in.,At its core, Shutter Island is about a man who refuses to acknowledge large swaths of,his inner self and so he creates an alternate reality.,Scholar Stella Bruzzi actually compares it to Inception when she writes that:,Indeed, Teddy’s closed himself off from the traumas of his past, and can only reckon, with those memories by dreaming them or projecting them onto other people’s lives – hence conjuring,Rachel Solando and Leidis.,He’s living in a fantasy world lurking with sinister, presumably imagined, threats.,His disconnection with his own identity is almost immediately established in one of the, first shots – when we see Teddy examining his own face in a shaky mirror.,He’s just puked his guts out, suggesting an inner discordance and inability to orient, himself.,The mirror perhaps indicates the duplicity inherent to his character.,As scholar Annette Wernblad puts it:,From there, Scorcese uses every tool in his cinematic toolbox to convey this warped reality.,Most literally, the film employs an estimated 650 special effects including blue screen, mattes, digital painting, 3D computer effects and even digital miniatures.,While plenty of movies use a crap ton of special effects, they’re generally employed to achieve, visual believability.,Here, all of the special effects work to create a slightly artificial reality.,This is fitting for a movie in which 90% of the action takes place inside a giant, performative, charade undertaken by the world’s most dramatically talented shrinks.,It’s even more fitting for a narrative viewed entirely through the eyes of a man literally, living in a fantasy world.,Examples of this artificiality include the rear projection inspired of the ocean and,sky behind the boat when the men arrive at Shutter Island, the artificial lushishness,of this gazebo setting, and the almost absurdly-thick, dream-like layer of fog in the movie’s opening, shot.,At the same time, the perspective is purposefully disjointed, with instances of almost deliberately, sloppy editing, like in the boat sequence when Teddy’s partner’s mouth is out of,sync with his words until it cuts to a reverse shot, at which point it’s suddenly in sync:,“How long you been with the marshalls?”,“4 Years” “So you know how small it is?”,“Sure.”,“How ‘bout you?,You got a girl?”,A similar effect is achieved in the first flashback, when Teddy’s wife starts talking, before we see her mouth move, followed by another jarring cut:,“Remember when we stayed in the cabin in the summer, Teddy?”,“We were so happy.”,“She’s here, you can’t leave.”,Here, the contrasting use of jarring angles in succession, along with inaccurate sound, synching, serves to diorient us and rattle our perspective, an imitation of Teddy’s,rattled psyche.,In another instance, when the men are being introduced to the buildings on the island,- there’s a whip pan which sloppily hides an editing cut, as if Teddy hesitates for,a moment in keeping up the charade while staring at familiar buildings.,All of these interruptions are entirely intentional – meant to jolt us, just as Teddy’s psyche,is being jolted with memories

Shutter Island reviewed by Mark Kermode

what do you have shutter on shutter, island its the new Martin Scorsese, film it is are we saying Scorsese on,Scorsese at the moment I dont think, anyone says Scorsese, when I interviewed Ray Winstone whod, work with him he referred to his Martin,Scorsese and it was Ray Winstone and I,wasnt going to argue with he said,Martin Scorsese thats just that must be,wrong,no it is its inaccurate but you but, fine put you in a room with Ray Winstone, who says when I was working months, because I said so anyway story in,certain 1950s the story as right as,anything based on a story by Dennis,Lehane who of course is the guy behind,Mystic River and Gone Baby Gone both of,which have been adapted for film story,is Leonardo DiCaprio is a u.s. marshal, hes previously in the war he is sent, with a partner played by Mark Ruffalo, over to the eponymous shutter island, which is in classic b-movie tradition a,strange enclosed Island Asylum where, incredibly dangerous mad people are kept,by a group of incredibly for equally, sinister clipboard wielding doctor, types, theyve been sent over there because one,of the patients has mysteriously, disappeared from a cell which is so,heavily guarded that it would be,impossible for anybody disappear unless, they had help from the inside but hes, everything as it seems who are the, patients who were the doctors lots of,hand action at the moment lets find out, from Sir Ben Kingsley those paintings, are quite accurately used to be the kind,of patients we deal with here were, shackled and left in their own filth, they were beaten as if whipping them, bloody would drive the psychosis out we,drove screws into their brains we,submerge them in icy water until they, lost consciousness or even drowned and,now we treat them try to heal try to,cure and if that fails at least we,provide them with a measure of comfort,in their lives calm these are all, violent offenders right I mean theyve, hurt people murdered them in some cases,in almost all cases yes,and personally doctor Id have to say, screw their sense of calm the Leonardo,DiCaprio now playing your other more,grown-up role than in the past now a,couple of people in looking looking at,this film and said I would you know its, essentially silly and it,ripe and silly as anything its, deliberately a sort of a b-movie for a,to some extent it harks back to the, remake of Cape Fear it has a musical, selection which honks and quacks and,Goths like a large ferry coming its on,but we have weve got a very have you,got this if we got the second clip, blooded youll play the beginning of the, second clip which will just just, demonstrate for you the soundtrack not, quite set it on honk honking heres a,little bit of a huntable listen okay oh,its not quite there was almost there, basically its going to sound it which, which which which says you know serious, stuff bad everything turned up – it,sounds like a ferry coming in to dock on,several occasions that its basically a,soundtrack which is it reminded me to,some extent of the soundtrack to Stanley,Kubricks The Shining remember the, opening of The Shining when you see the,the VW driving mr. bighetti obviously is,a connection with Kubrick but you see,the VW driving on the hills I think hog,[Music],[Music],at honk yeah theres an awful lot of,that so all the way through the whole, tone of the thing is turned up to,hysterical and it reminded me to mérida, the film by you know reading through the,Sam fuller movie shot corridor you seen, that what shock corridor the Sam fuller, movie set on Sodom shock corridor shock, corridor yes we have seen that no ok,have you ever seen the ninth configure,it there in a quarry on its pretty, shocking its a shocking, its a shocking corridor of gates to,show you just goes on and theres one, fantastic scene in shock corridor which,is one of those its like its like a,movie asylum and at one point our, antihero, finds himself inadvertently opens a door, and finds himself locked in a room full,of women and the vote the voice of goes,oh no new folks anyway it has that right, policy it also reminded me of at the, ninth configuration than William Peter,Blatty movie in which the whole thing, about you know whos the patients who,the thing its basically if you know, anything about the b-movie conventions,of people going to asylums youd be,really not trying very hard if the whole, plot didnt start to unfurl as soon as,you get in but thats one of the joys, but the other thing is we have max wants,to do max wants to do Martins case as,this very sinister uber doctor type who, probably has some kind of Nazi past and,the whole implication is that the whole, thing is being played out in some sort,of boys from Brazil type like experiment, thing that maybe maybe is over Hank,Roberto or maybe is all entirely in the, mind of the protagonist who can tell now,I enjoyed it very much I enjoyed it,unlevel if its completely ridiculous, its honk quack brat soundtrack its,Leonardo DiCaprios performance you know, doing chewing the scenery where Sir Ben,Kingsley doing his hes most you think,is it better than the hood you know I,was gonna say his most Thunderbird like, performance since Thunderbirds you, remember actually I thought we thought, hes rolling in in the Thunderbirds, movie was perfectly cast because he does, look exactly like the puppet off the, hood anyway but he does that Ben,Kingsley thing about being slightly, sinister and styling slightly bottom, profoundly bald in it is the way it,reminded me that thing from with male, and I were the guy says yeah the judge, started coming on all bald with me and I,really, really enjoyed it even whilst thinking,is completely ridiculous it looks the, difference between it of course and a,genuine b-movie is that it cost a lot, more its got much more famous actors it,has much higher production values it has, surely much more expensive, music clearance rights and the, expectations are much higher but I dont, see why Martin Scorsese shouldnt be,able to enjoy himself with essentially, making a you know a throwaway b-movie in,the same way that Quentin Tarantino is,splitting the last portion of his career, making what he considers to be,grindhouse movies this is more fun in,its pastiche way than the stuff that, death Proof which Tarantino has done and,I really enjoyed myself even whilst, knowing just how ridiculous and silly it,is and when the unexpected twist comes, believe me if you didnt see it coming, you really arent trying what happens it,whats the twist Richard Gere dies, you
