Texas voters react to Biden’s State of the Union speech

and now lets go back to maria via real,in houston with that group of texas, voters of all backgrounds getting their, reaction to president bidens speech, tonight, hey lindsay so we are back and we want,to get straight into the issues the, first one i want to talk about has to do,with, really, some of the things that you were, surprised to hear john you were hoping,to hear something about, voting rights did you get what you, wanted i did it took the president quite,a while to get there but he did do it,for the black community we needed to,hear, him say he is,behind he affirmed a commitment behind, the voting rights legislation in the, congress to counteract this massive, state, legislation,to suppress the vote and i we needed to,hear that and we i want him to back that,up uh as after this night because we,need, federal action to stop all the state, action and i also was glad that he,pushed for the confirmation of katanji, brown jackson to the supreme court we,need those two things uh to make america, what it should be thank you john and i,want to go uh to the back corner with, elliott and the reason why is earlier on,we kind of had a bet going of whether or,not the president would talk about, immigration i cover a lot on the border,im from the border and so are you so,were you surprised to hear him touch on,this and was it enough,i was very surprised actually,i dont believe its enough, for a president with administration that, allowed 2 million illegal immigrants, caught by dhs last year alone, most in american history by the way,it is,kind of weird to see him lecturing us,but how hes going to keep keep the, border secure, with the cartel increasing in human, trafficking and sex trafficking i like, that he covered it but i would like to,see results which he has not shown yet,he didnt give you a a plan nothing was,set just yet no map no plan no details, and the area of south texas the economic, downturn has been felt very hard by us,so i would like to see a plan in place, going forward but well have to see, honda daniel i want to come back to you, because we spoke with you early on about, the economy inflation how important this, was going to be did you get what you, came for tonight well it was important,he did touch on something that that, affects all of us which is the four, major meat processing plants so im glad, that that is on his radar to take a look,at that and see what we can do to,improve production or or add additional, facilities to get uh more supplies on,the on the shelves of grocery stores did,he give you hope,i already have i have hope every day but,uh,its good its its its we got to get, back to some, normalcy uh get prices down that way us,and in the hospitality restaurant, industry can get our prices back to,where we need to be so we can hire more, people you said normalcy and that, immediately makes me think about covet, and the discussion that we had today in,the pandemic and i want to go to dr,kabir in the back because i think, obviously in your day job this is this,is what youve been wrestling with for,the last two plus years right was it,enough uh did you get hope off of,todays conversation yeah i think his, speech was very uh,nice i thought that he did a fantastic, job when he came to,discussing the full breadth of issues, that are going on right now i mean,um,kovit is just one of many factors i,think his, speech overall was very inspirational, and he,put in a couple of nice, points where i feel that,he can potentially make a good positive, impact on u.s healthcare, specifically pharmaceuticals yeah, pharmaceuticals attacking uh pharma in a,way where we can have uh sort of a level, playing field for, americans is going to be,a nice start and i think that if he can,do that successfully that is a nice, beginning to,balancing things out for the american, public elizabeth watching you i saw you, nodding at your head in approval in some, situations but also there was a point, where i could see you definitely were, not vibing with what the president was, saying when it had to do with taxes and, more importantly taxing corporations and,the wealthy what made you shake your, head in disapproval, yes well hes repeating some of the same, old tired jargon of fair share fair, share when already the top taxpayers in,the united states pay the lions share,of taxes and also he talked about you, know making things in america right, bringing production back to america, which we i think we all support however,if you increase taxes on corporations, and american corporations are the, highest tax rate in the world,if you increase those taxes is going to,make it increasingly difficult for, corporations to produce in america and,to hire american workers,i was very surprised that we went to an,unsexy topic tonight and that was, infrastructure youre already taking, your mask off arita i have to come back,to you because, you know we we were we didnt think it,was gonna happen but he spent a lot of,time on infrastructure it its, surprising to me that even though he,didnt say build back better it was, prevalent he talked about the importance,of our highway systems and our bridge, systems i loved how much emphasis they, placed on new manufacturing coming, online but the um,only way that thats going to be,successful is if the infrastructure, supports the movement of goods from, those places to the rest of the country, and so i think it was a good thing for,him to pair the conversation about, manufacturing and the conversation about, our infrastructure because they are very, dependent on one another, and i want to finish off um with rabbi, estes and the reason why is because we,started to talk about hope initially, when we first came on and an inspiration, did you get what you came for tonight, did you feel like you walked away, feeling better about the country i i did,um i,left the sense of hope i think hes, committed to,uh,helping out with uh crane standing, against evil um i loved that there was a,message of unity and his unity agenda um,as a religious person it really speaks,to me and also his callout for,the uh protection of uh trans youth and, those who are at the most margins of our, society and thats something that really, resonated um for me and uh,im,feeling good about the state of our, union well thank you guys so much for, joining us tonight i really appreciate, all of your opinions very valued very, important tonight and thank you for the, late night as well lindsay were heading, back to you now, nice to hear that he is feeling good, about the state of the union marea thank, you and thank you to all the voters you, have talked with tonight as well for, sharing their opinions with us,hi everyone george stephanopoulos here, thanks for checking out the abc news, youtube channel if youd like to 2022 State Of The Union | NBC News

hear a lot of is cutting costs, meaning cutting costs for you at home, they want to reframe uh universal uh,kindergarten or universal pre-k as a way,of hey this is child care this will save, you money at home youre worried about, high prices were going to cut the cost,of prescription drugs so theyre trying,to take the most popular pieces of their, larger domestic agenda and, make the case that they are also, help and fight inflation now thats the, question tom is the public ready to,embrace or listen to that i dont know, and thats why i think, this is such an opportunity for the, president tonight on the international, front you have an audience curious to,what he has to say,if he if he is able to win credibility,on his leadership on the international, front it might open the door to get more,of the public to buy in to his, prescriptions on the domestic front, chuck todd for us tonight chuck we look, forward to all of your coverage i know, its going to be a busy night for you,and a reminder our nbc news now state of,the union coverage is coming up in just,a moment with hallie jackson lester and, savannah anchor president bidens, address at nine and then chuck and, kristen welker with the post speech show, and analysis it is a very big night for, this network network we want to thank, you so much for watching this special, edition of top story im tom yamas in,ukraine tonight stay right there, hallies coming up right now kicking off,our state of the union show right now,the president of the united states, president joe biden tonight delivering, his first official state of the union my,fellow americans, speaking to the biggest invited crowd at,the capitol since the start of the, pandemic, the presidents words coming at a,critical time his presidency faced with, the most significant invasion in europe,in decades and theres no question, that russia is the aggression and then, theres the economy with consumer, sentiment hitting its lowest level in a,decade with inflation on the rise, average people are getting clobbered by,the cost of everything all of it as the, president and his team hope to put the, pandemic in the rearview mirror were, moving toward a time and covert 19,wont disrupt our daily lives so how, will president biden describe our state,of the union, its never ever ever been a good bet to,bet against america and it still isnt, from nbc news now a presidential state,of the union, live from washington, heres hallie jackson, hey im halle and listen this is a big, night for president biden weve got your, back as we get ready for all of it with, the four key things to watch as he makes, his case to all of us in prime time and,you know were starting with ukraine and,the situation with russia the, possibility of this split screen moment, there and the presidents message that, vladimir putin was wrong and the u.s and,its allies will not be divided then here,at home watch for the president to lay,out his plan for the economy youve got, unemployment thats down but inflation,is up so listen for how he talks about, that and what hes going to try to do to,get inflation under control, what is under control the president says,is the pandemic thats another key theme,in this speech tonight and an,interesting optical moment here his, audience congress theyll be mask, optional for the first time in months, and then theres this other kind of hard,to define vibe were going to hear about, unity so what does that look like in a,congress thats divided on his agenda, especially on the climate and, infrastructure get ready to hear a lot, more about building a better america, tonight that is the theme du jour and, keep in mind the political backdrop to,all of this the president has approval, ratings that are below 40 percent right, now its not the trajectory the white, house wants to see tonight again a lot,at stake as the president makes his case,to millions of people we will have our, team, everywhere youre gonna see this control, room wall live this is what we see live,in our control room were gonna have it,up all night long because for the next,60 minutes we will be telling you, everything thats going down as the, president gets ready for his speech and,as we showed you the best reporters in,the business to talk about all of these, topics that we just mentioned from the, capitol to the white house overseas in,ukraine senator mark warner chair of the, senate intelligence committee will be,with us too you know theres plenty of,headlines on that front we also have our, republican and democratic insiders with,us for their perspective on what, president biden needs to do,and then of course on the set with me,our friends for the next 60 minutes, yamiche alcindor anna palmer jeremy bash, were glad to be with all of you and, were glad to be with you for our, special state of the union coverage, right here on nbc news now lets get to,it lets get to kelly odonnell whos, over near the white house and kelly we,are now getting a sense of what the, president is going to say were getting, some early excerpts specifically about, russia and ukraine bring us up to speed, well hallie as you know the state of the, union is typically a blueprint for a,years worth of work for an,administration this takes on a very, different tone with abrupt changes made,to what the president is saying because,of the urgency of the moment with, foreign policy taking at least the, initial, center stage for president biden where,he will make a very severe rebuke of,vladimir putin and his unprovoked war, hell also set some policy things that, weve just learned like for example the, president will say that the united, states will close its airspace to,russian aircraft thats another step, that can be a penalty to not only, vladimir putin but the elites of russia, who may be trying to escape with their, money or their families to try to get, away from the collapsing economy in,russia that is a product of the kind of,sanctions and economic penalties that, the presidents, work along with allies has brought to,bear youll hear from the president a,real focus on the unity among european, and allies that go beyond that nato, partners of course but even allies in,other parts of the globe where the, president has tried to keep that, alliance, tight on the same page when at times, that was difficult and trying to deal, with fast-changing developments for how,to supply support and aid the ukrainian, people in what is a changing and dire, situation on the ground in ukraine and,at the same time trying to send a,message that does not escalate the, unpredictable nature of vladimir putin, who has already threatened, the use of nuclear weapons by hinting at,his arsenal, his unpredictability one of the factors, that the white house is trying to do its, best to not escalate or in some way, provoke so that is the piece that the, president has needed to add and on top,of that the president has his own, domestic agenda that he wants to work, through and of course there are times, when what is happening at home is very, much intertwined with the united states, place in the world and thats part of,what well see tonight hallie, kelly odonnell live first there at the, white house so kelly i know at some, point were going to see the president, leaving the white house to head down, pennsylvania avenue to the hill i know, youll be close to a camera for us on,that front were watching it of course,in our control room while here one of,the things that kelly talked about is,the importance of whats happening with, ukraine and with russia we know the, presidents been reworking his speech to,hit that point on allies right and just,as we were coming on the air i want to,bring in tom yamas whos live in ukraine, tom we found out that news that kelly, just reported on the u.s the presidents, expected to announce closing its, airspace to russia you are there you are,on the ground where there is frankly a,growing humanitarian crisis this is a,foreign policy crisis the president has,to address and is planning to address, tonight, theres no doubt i mean were talking, about nearly 700 00

Analysis: President Biden addresses Ukraine war in State of the Union speech | DW News

u.s president joe biden says the united, states and its allies are standing, united in the face of russias, aggression toward ukraine in his first, state of the union address to lawmakers, biden said the ukrainians fight was an,inspiration to the world and that, russian president vladimir putin was now, more isolated than ever he pledged the,u.s would defend, its nato allies but again said that u.s,forces would not get involved in the, fighting, american diplomacy u.s analyst william, gluecroft is with me in the studio to,break things down william youre, watching the speech with me it wasnt, long before biden turned his attention,to ukraine and very much addressing the, room as the commander-in-chief yeah it,was definitely that the top line it had,to be right i mean this is a huge war, thats looking to upend uh european, security looking to upend a lot of,of the way weve, known life to be for at least the last,30 years in the post-cold war if not the, last 80 years since world war ii so this,is a huge huge issue that joe biden of,course has to confront and has been, confronting the last uh many weeks and, months and he had some tough talk to say,to vladimir putin i think we have a,quick, clip of of him having a message to the, russian president, putins latest attack on ukraine was, premeditated, and totally unprovoked,he rejected repeated repeated efforts at,diplomacy,he thought the west and nato wouldnt, respond,he thought he could divide us at home in,this chamber in this nation,he thought he could divide us in europe,as well, but putin was wrong,we are ready we are united and thats, what we did we stayed united we prepared, extensively and carefully we spent, months building coalitions of other,freedom-loving nations in europe and the, americas to america to the asian and, african continents,to confront putin, like many of you i spent countless hours, unifying near our european allies,we shared with the world in advance what,we knew putin was planning and precisely, how we would try to falsify, and justify his aggression, joe biden in his first state of the, union address with him also announcing, getting specific on the toughening of,sanctions yes russia i think its, accurate to say hes the sanctions,commander-in-chief we should be careful, hes not commander-in-chief because, america is not at war and we need to be,really careful with where we draw those, lines uh given the perilous state of,affairs right now but yes sanctions are,the go-to tool really the only tool that, the united states and its allies can, have short of military force which its,not going to use directly although it,has made a lot of pledges to,humanitarian aid to military aid, including heavy weapons now for a long, time theres the question of so-called,defensive weapons its a bit of a of a,murky uh definition of what a defensive, weapon is versus a non-defensive weapon, but were talking about real heavy, weapons getting them to ukraine uh,forces if they can get them there given, the the, real uh violent situation on the ground,um and talking about uh closing airspace,uh to russian commercial aircraft over, the united states something that uh all,of the eu has already done im sure, theres gonna be a tit-for-tat with uh,russia probably closing its airspace to,american airlines um the question is,how much, will russia suffer and how quickly and,how much blowback will there be on the,us and other allies because obviously, there are economic partnerships here, theres financial partnerships here, the u.s and the eu are banking on that, they have enough money and enough, cushion enough support to be able to,protect their consumers and their voters,in ways that russia cant and weve, already seen the ruble crash weve seen, the moscow stock market or the russian, stock market closed weve seen runs on,the banks and these kinds of things an,important domestic topic for the, president how hes going to turn that, the issue of rising inflation in the u.s,how did joe biden go about reassuring, the american public, that while the economy is strong the, cost of living is going up right and, americans are not all convinced that the, economy is strong although there has, been good economic data since biden, became president, economy is just as much about how, someone feels in any kind of factual, numerical uh data you can see on a piece,of paper and thats something that biden, really tried to push home because the, economy is so important to winning, elections and so important to his, favorability rating as it is for any, president or any political leader really, and inflation has been very difficult, already before the russian innovation of,ukraine gas prices going up food prices, going up these kinds of things really, hitting the pocketbooks of average, americans and joe biden has to assure uh,americans that whatever action they take, against russia there will be a safety, net there so americans dont feel it and,i think we also have a clip of that of,something that joe biden was saying to,his, his voters, the panic also disrupted the global, supply chain, factories close, when that happens it takes longer to,make goods and get them to the, warehouses to the stores and go prices,go up,look at cars last year, one third of all the inflation was, because of automobile sales there, werent enough semiconductors to make, all the cars that people wanted to buy,and guess what, prices of automobiles went way up,especially used vehicles as well but,and so we have a choice, one way to fight inflation is to drive, down wages and make americans poor,i think i have a better idea to fight, inflation, lower your cost not your wages, folks, that means make more cars than, semiconductors in america, more infrastructure and innovation in,america, more goods moving faster and cheaper in,america, more jobs where you can earn a good, living in america, instead of relying on foreign supply, chains lets make it in america, the words of the u.s president william, gluecroft there was a lot to digest, thanks for guiding us through joe, bidens first, state of the union address thank you

The State of the Union | Victor Davis Hanson

but my point is if you tell middle-class,people,youre not going to be able to afford to,fill up your truck at seven dollars for, diesel fuel,or youre not going to turn on your air, conditioning because its a sin and, were going to make it 30 kilowatt, and youre going to be on that forklift,at 18 and youre going to pay taxes for, this guy with a gender studies major at,stanford,on his loan forgiveness, youre playing with fire, professor victor davis hanson is no,stranger to this series of conversations, hes the martin and early anderson, senior fellow in residence,in classics and military history at the, hoover institution at stanford, university,he has many prestigious academic posts, hes a historian of both ancient and, modern history,he has a particular, ability and background in the history of,warfare he has his own podcast the, victor davis hanson show where he speaks,at length about global and american, affairs and cultural issues with a,vitality and a freshness, and a knowledge base that is,really impressive, his latest book is the dying citizen how, progressive elites tribalism and, globalization are destroying the idea of,america, victor thanks so much for joining us,particularly given that youre still, recovering from covet, well, all bad things come to an end i hope, were all i think uh right around the, world very interested in what might, happen in the upcoming mid, terms, weve watched the current, team under biden, doing very badly in the polls, and the polls seem to be indicating that, there was going to be a major red wave, yes and that the republicans would take, the house and the senate again, now people are saying the polls are, faltering, the biden administration is recovering, despite all of the challenges that seem,to be in front of it um,youve had roe versus wade how might, that impact at all youve had the raid,on mar-a-lago the uh,on president trumps home by the fbi how,are you reading all of this because its,so important for america, and indeed the world yeah i think, theres two issues and one is,is there, are the republicans really stumbling so,for example today a poll came out and,joe biden has dropped and the reuters, which ipsys pole which is considered, center left pole, hes gone from 41 back down to 38.,and so theres this kind of media, because of the passage of his,so-called inflation fighting bill and,the student debt, theres not been polling on those issues, but they feel thats momentum so its, been gender up in the media but when you, actually look,at bidens polls theyve gone down this, week and when you look at key races that, they felt, were indicators of republican stupidity,by,nominating people who had no political, experience jd vance in ohio, hes up in some polls, blake masters in arizona, hes within one or two points in some, polls uh herschel walker that everybody, thought would was a disaster hes, actually ahead of warner,so i i dont think,i think its uh not quite the landslide, that they thought but its going to be a,big win,the other issue is,what is the democratic strategy that, gives them this confidence and,if you look at the political, landscape no one is talking about an,open border and three million people, crossing, joe biden blew up immigration law it,doesnt exist in america on the southern, border nobodys talking about gasoline, prices because, and their way of thinking if theyve, gone up three dollars and they went down,50 cents thats a cut but theyre still, much higher and people know that, inflation went from nine point, two and now its 8.5 but 8.5 is,extraordinary, the fed is going to tighten up,people are still this is the anniversary, week last week was of the afghanistan, debacle so they dont want to talk about, those issues so what are they doing so,we had the january 6 commission of which, there was no republican on the committee, who did not vote to impeach donald trump,or who had a political future, the two people on it have no political, future at least in the congress and they, voted impeached trump, and that, psycho drama then led into, the raid on more logo weve never had a,presidents home rated in the history of,the country, and weve had a series of narratives, each one has replaced the other one when,it ran out of uh credit credit, credit graduality and so what im,getting at is,they dont want to run on the record, the problem is with the republicans that, they are reactive and so,if they were to follow the 1994 newt, gingrich paradigm in which donald trump,or whoever is the nominative head of the, party they would say, this is what were going to do in the, first hundred days should we take the, house, and the senate this is what were going,to do on energy heres how were going,to fight inflation heres what were, going to restore to deterrent foreign, policy, were going to be very skeptic were, going to let the states divide decide, about abortion its not going to be a,federal dictate, and if they would, have the candidates then run on those, national issues rather than, well we did were not insurrectionist, youre defaming us were not fascists, you shouldnt have rated this is this, terrible so,theyre reacting to news cycles of these, melodramas that are concocted, and its taken a lot of momentum at,least out of them whether i dont think, itll itll change but at some point, some adult in the republican party is,going to have to say,do your worst and were going to do our, best were going to have a national, agenda and its going to be the, antithesis of this disastrous two years, and were all going to be on the same, page and this is what were going to run,on and i think theyll be okay,i would have thought politics 101 is to,set out a vision youve got to be able,to say to people,we think x y and z are real problems and, heres how were going to resolve them, otherwise youre defined yeah by your, political opponents,i think at some point, maybe im being a little extraneous, theres a waterloo moment with donald, trump in the republican party, and that is i think, people who are running for office are, going to tell him,the 2020 election is history and to the, degree that there is a legitimate, criticism about the, outcome it was probably lost in march, and april when the voting laws were, changed and that was not addressed by,the republican, and right now we need to look at the, future and each moment that you go back, there you play into the fake narrative,of an insurrection, and fascism and thats what they want, you to do,and so donald trump is going to have to,decide which is more important to him,to be the leader of the republican party, and to,look ahead, and not to do what he did in 2020 when,he fixated on the election he let the, georgia races the two senate races, sort of,you know he basically told his, supporters that the vote wont be valid, and then the independency seemed to be,distracted so they elected two,neo-socialists in georgia of all places, and so that should have been a warning, and so hes going to have to get that, message,to barnstorm the country and help these, candidates and not talk about, what happened and if he doesnt, unfortunately for him, theres an array of very talented people, unlike the democratic party theres a,a successful governor ron desantis in,florida, theres tom cotton a good senator, theres mike pompeo theres nikki haley, theres marco rubio theres all this, talent and theyre waiting for an,opening and if he doesnt, take the responsibility to to run on the, agenda and to make sure that other, people other than himself win this time, around,i think hes going to be in real trouble,it does raise the question does it not,of as an outsider i want to be careful, about sounding critical about a major, american figure because im not an,american except that this is so,important for the world, donald trump runs the risk i think of,a perception that its, what happens to him is more important, than what happens to the country yeah, because this is a crisis moment globally, were at a civilizational moment and, what happens in america is unbelievably, important it is as to whether or not,we go under so how does he square tha

Live: State of the European Union Debate 2022

so,so,so,so,good morning dear colleagues can i ask,you to take your seats, dear colleagues good morning, can i ask you to take your seats please, yes, once again good morning,to all of you dear colleagues, first of all i am pleased,to welcome the president of the european, commission ursula van der lion to our, european parliament for the annual, state of the european union, address,it is also very much a special honor,to have olena zelenska with us on this, important day,[Applause],dear elena we are with you,and with the ukrainian people we are, here today, against an alarming backdrop of an,illegal, unjustifiable invasion,of sovereign ukraine, high inflation electricity and energy, price rises,a climate catastrophe, increased food insecurity and a fast, emerging cost of living crisis,i think our message today will be that, europe, will respond, and to underline how we will do that it,is my pleasure to give the floor to the, president of the european commission to,deliver her 2022 state of the european, union address jerusalem the floor is,yours,[Applause],thank you madam president honorable, members,my fellow europeans, never before, has this parliament debated the state of,our union, with war raging on european soil, and we all remember that fateful morning,in late february, europeans from across our union, woke up,dismayed by what they saw, shaken by the resurgent and ruthless, face of evil, haunted by the sounds of sirens and the, sheer brutality of war,but from that very moment on,a whole continent, has risen in solidarity,at the border crossings where refugees, found shelter,in our streets filled with ukrainian, flags,in the classrooms where ukrainian, children made new friends, from that very moment, europeans neither hid nor hesitated, they found the courage to do the right, thing, and from that very moment, our union as a whole, has risen to the occasion,15 years ago, during the financial crisis,it took us years to find lasting, solutions,a decade later when the global pandemic, hit it took us only weeks, but this year,as soon as russian troops, crossed the border into ukraine, our response was united, determined and immediate and i think we,can be proud of that,[Applause],we have brought europes inner strength, back to the surface, and we will need all this strength, the moments ahead of us,will not be easy,be it for the families who are, struggling to make ends meet,or businesses who are facing tough, choices concerning their future, and let us be very clear, much is at stake, not just for ukraine, but for all of europe and the world at,large, and we will be tested, tested by those, who want to exploit any kind of division, between us,and this is not only a war unleashed by,russia, against ukraine, this is also worn our energy, its a war on our economy, its a war on our values,it is a war on our future,it is about autocracy, against democracy, and i stand here with a conviction, that with the necessary courage, and with the necessary solidarity putin, will fail and ukraine and europe will, prevail, today, courage, has a name and that name is ukraine, courage has a face, and that face is the face of ukrainian, men and women, who are standing up,to the russian aggression,i remember a moment in the early weeks,of the invasion, when the first lady of ukraine, olena zelenska, gathered the parents,of ukrainian children, killed by the invader, hundreds of families, for whom the war will never end,and for whom life will never go back,to what it was before,we saw the first lady, leading a silent crowd of heartbroken, mothers and fathers, and hangs small bells in the trees one,for every fallen child, and now these bells will ring forever in,the wind, and forever, the innocent victims of this war will, live in our memories, and yes shes here with us today,my dear olena zelenska,it took immense courage to resist, putins cruelty, but you found the courage, and a nation of heroes has risen, today in ukraine stands strong because,an entire country has fought street by,street and house by house, and we are seeing in the last days the, bravery of the ukrainians is paying off, ukraine stands strong because people, like your husband president zielenski, have stayed in keefe,to lead the resistance, together with you,and your children, you have given courage,to a whole nation, you have given a voice to your people on,a global stage, you have given hope to all of us,so today we want to thank you and all, ukrainians, glory to a country of european heroes, slava ukraine, europes solidarity with ukraine will, remain unshakable, from day one on,europe has stood at ukraines side, with weapons, with funds, with hospitalities for refugees, and with the toughest sanctions the, world has ever seen, russias financial sector is on life, support,we have cut off three quarters of,russias banking sector from, international markets, nearly 1 000 international companies, have left the country, the production of cars fell by 75,compared to last year, iro flood is grounding planes because, there are no more spare parts, the russian military is taking chips, from dishwashers and refrigerators,to fix their military hardware because, there are no semiconductors anymore, russias industry is in tatters, and it is the kremlin, that has put russias economy on the, path of oblivion, that is the price, for russians russias and putins trail,of death and destruction, and i want to make it very clear, the sanctions are here to stay this is,time for us for resolve and not for, appeasement this has to be very clear, the same is true for our financial, support for ukraine,so far team europe has provided more, than 19 billion euros in financial, assistance and this is without counting, the military support, and we are in for the long haul, ukraines reconstruction will require, massive resources, for instance russian strikes have, damaged or destroyed more than 70,schools,half a million ukrainian children have, started their school year in the, european union but many other ukrainian, children simply do not have a classroom,to go to,and you told me yesterday dear elena, that every day when the parents are, sending the children to school, they dont only give them the school bag,but also an emergency bag with water, with food, with band-aids medical supply, with socks, and an underwear to change, and just imagine you send in the morning, your child to school handbag in to,school and you do not know whether, youre going to be reunited in the, afternoon after school so my dear olana,i am announcing that we will work with, you,to support the rehabilitation of damaged, ukrainian schools we will provide what, you need this is 100 million euros, because the future of ukraine begins in,the schools and with the children,we will not only support financially but, also empower ukraine to make the most of,its potential, ukraine has already a rising tech hub,and home is home to many, very young smart companies,so i want us to mobilize the full power,of our single market to help accelerate, growth and create opportunities, please remember in march we connected, successfully ukraine to our electricity, grid it was planned for 2024 we did it,in two weeks only, and today ukraine is exporting, electricity to the european union,so i want to significantly expand this, mutual beneficial trade we have already, suspended import duties on ukrainian, exports to ukraine,we will bring ukraine into our european, free roaming area its really time to do,that now,our solidarity lines are big success and, building on all of that, the commission will work with ukraine to,go a step further and to ensure a,seamless access to the single market of,the european union our single market is,one of europes greatest success stories,we know the power that lies in the, single market so now it is time to make,it a success story for our ukrainian, friends too and this is why today im,going to keefe to discuss all this with, president zelinski and to show him what, the single market is as a potential for, ukraines future too,my honourable members, one lesson from this war is,we should have listened,to those who know putin,to
