Stranger Things Season 4: Part 1 – Angry Review

[Music],[Applause],[Music],hey guys and finally welcome to our,stranger things season 4 review took us,quite a while to get through this one,because youre looking at what,seven episodes theyre super sized,episodes some longer than i think all of,them longer than an hour so it was over,eight nine hours of content that we had,to go through in order to review this um,and its been what three years uh since,the last of stranger things and then in,the and there was a two year break in,between three and two and there was a,one-year break between one and two uh so,the brakes are getting a little longer,of course the pandemic happened and kind,of slowed things down but it did kind of,put a damper on my height for it right,until they released that trailer you got,this interesting,vacuna,freddy krueger-like uh villain you you,get the,you know,kind of the other world rights and were,getting more on that,and uh the upside down,and,theyre back the crew is back right and,so,how,did this go over with me as i was,watching it,to be perfectly honest i know im gonna,get down voted i know everybodys gonna,hate us and and i dont care because,here at the angry joe show we just give,it to you uh our brutally honest,opinions i think that this season was,just too bloated,it a lot of this thing was spinning the,wheels we added a bunch of new,characters that i dont care about um,and and,a lot of subplots that frankly go,nowhere and arent really contributing,much especially um,how am i blanking on his name,the sheriff tom oh hopper hopper yeah,hopper not topper thats hot shots uh,anyways um,and to me in my opinion it started too,slowly uh and it was dull in parts and,it was repeating a lot of the same story,beats that weve already seen while,simultaneously dragging out those,subplots too too long and and adding in,way too many new characters thats,thats my opinion i know and almo almost,in a way its become too big for its own,good right bigger better more badass,comes to mind they want to try to make a,bigger better and more badass and to be,honest the visuals have never been,better uh that the budget is high,it is a lot darker i mean people are,dying in gruesome ways,nobody that we care about but people are,dying in gruesome ways its there yeah,but its there so while they made it,bigger better more badass i think they,went uh,some notches too far to where its,bloated in places and frankly kind of,boring wanted to scan through uh a lot,of the episodes for me episode four and,seven,thats where its standing out and im,actually excited for the last two,episodes because thats going to be,releasing in july,im im amped but i felt like i went,through a lot of,filler to get there well for me what do,you think it felt like,it was a brand they they treated it like,a brand new series were doing like,character introductions its like were,on season four like we know these,characters we dont need to redo all,these things and reintroduce all the,its like we were at the fourth season,i think that we,youre not starting on season four right,so you can get to the point and it felt,too it felt like it was taking too long,for them to get to the [ __ ] point in,the first couple episodes because it did,it dragged ass,and i get what theyre sending up i like,the directions theyre going it just we,just had to slog through some [ __ ] to,get there its like you can,you can explain to me very quickly that,ls getting bullied and shes not having,a good time but they just decided they,were just gonna drag that [ __ ] on and i,cannot i do not care dont care at all,not at all stop it yeah one bully scene,is good for me i i dont need three you,know and it just kept going and and four,its the build up,all right now shes really getting ready,dont get me wrong i love all this stuff,in the experimental area that the,flashbacks are great yeah thats weird,and strong well i feel like the opposite,of you guys im actually enjoying i am,enjoying this but i do agree the first,couple episodes or the first two,episodes are kind of slow but it,actually picked up for me and im,enjoying it so far yeah same with me it,picks up at the episode episode seven,definitely for sure episode four where,max is in like in trouble,you like eddie okay so lets talk about,all of the new characters what do you,guys think of some of the new characters,eddie is pretty [ __ ] cool hes one of,the guys that i would love to play some,d d with eddie reminds me of the dudes,that some of the dudes i used to play,[ __ ] red,yeah without that hes like i dont want,him to die or not oh fire hell,care about that one we never had [ __ ],t-shirts or anything but,that would be sweet its hard to make,you care about new characters especially,when were this far in and you think,eddie works yes what about anybody else,um,the [ __ ] is great at being an [ __ ],the jock,for me thats not working thats one of,the subplots thats not working its,like come on i know its just its fine,like yeah it is,so stupid youre supposed to hate him,hes hes hes captain of the ski team,or whatever his names blake or chad or,and ive got two buddies named blake,but its just like hes hes that true,like 80s dude his dad owns a dealership,and you know he just looks down on,everyone else and hes it is overwritten,and overacted and it is kind of dumb but,i get like i think im giving them the,past tropes because theyre putting it,in on purpose i think they are trying to,do that um yeah the thing i like about,this too like the way they put these,characters i actually do like them as,opposed to what season was it what they,introduced the new people there the emo,eleven,oh oh oh youre right i was like i,didnt do that okay i didnt do that so,im gonna give him credit for that i,think im better than season three,subplot yo sure sure sure no youre,actually making me soften on it a little,bit a little a little rough because i,thought i was gonna hate him i was like,no eddies pretty cool like dont hang,out with the game yeah um and uh what,about the subplots or the subplots,working for you like for example weve,got,[Music],joyce going and yeah trying to,figure out how to get to him then were,flying there then were rescuing him and,then the subplot of hopper within the,actual prison with a russian uh soldier,that he kind of betrayed befriends and,betrays or betrayal,um what do you think about that,that to me that is where its not,working yeah i agree with you on that,one thats the weaker aspect of it that,one im just like okay lets go back to,the main plot because this isnt working,out for me so thats the part where im,like okay i could fast forward to this,yeah i feel the same way that that is,actually it feels kind of like the whole,series where it just starts off too,[ __ ] slow and they didnt need to,start off that like we could have gotten,to the juicier bits within that,storyline introduce some of the un the,underground stuff that is happening,there that is present there and really,ramped up the excitement and the,attention and just the enjoyability of,that storyline because its not,enjoyable it doesnt go anywhere its,just kind of meandering and we just,dont like it if youre going to give me,an hour and 20 hour and 10 minutes for,these episodes i know we are constantly,give me more give me more this is not,the stuff we want more of yeah,um,lets see so i i do want to point out,this feeling that im getting uh that it,doesnt feel like a story they wanted to,tell from the beginning you know what i,mean but rather something they came up,with right like a team of writers in a,room and focus groups that that are now,being in past its okay all right how do,we get how do we do this you know its,like man i like it when when series are,planned you know and and its getting a,little bit of a lost thing um,but i think that the people that they,got and the way its going is the right,choice you know what im saying so so,ultimately i agree with where theyre,going and im excited with where theyre,going but it just

yeah,because,both of our fan bases are like hey what,did you guys think of that nerdy show,that came out about,just now um should i watch this on,release by the way i havent done that,for anything in ages i think i told you,i was like actually excited to see how,this ended not gonna lie about sixty,percent of that hype belonged to eddie,pretty much entirely when i saw that,clip in the uh,in the trailer and i was like you,[ __ ] hes gonna play a mel song you,kidding me right now im gonna die,right,we were just talking about this now uh,ill sorry to repeat myself mahler but,uh i havent seen every tv show in the,world and i havent seen every movie,uh but i cant think of too many that,treated,our fellow metal heads with this much,respect,it usually is the metal heads are kind,of weird thats how they get its like,yeah reclusive and theyre often like,into really nice [ __ ] and theyre,annoying obnoxious that sort of thing,and you see them for a couple minutes if,that and they usually live in a place,thats just like falling apart,um that was gonna became close to with,eddie i was like oh is he gonna be in a,dirty trailer,like our father would beat the [ __ ] out,of them yeah thats what they were going,to do,but they didnt they didnt no no i,think it was great,yeah i thought so too thats the one of,the things they did really well,really well in my opinion,yeah im right there with you man i was,uh i was okay when i was coming back it,was like you know im gonna watch it,eventually,just because im a completionist and i,didnt like season two or three very,much my wife liked him a lot more but,seeing that i live with her im going to,watch the show she wants to watch,and uh i was i,i cant think of too many shows that had,two bad seasons and then just,got better i dont know,as good as you may think because hes,one or two uh like theyre nothing if it,is five and six sort of no no no its,the same with next generation right like,i like season one but im not going to,defend it as being good,i just like it,so,dude i feel that way about a lot of this,season,this is one of the closest examples i,think ive got of,i quite like all of this,even though i recognize theres a lot of,problems and im just like yeah im,trying to ignore them,as best i can,how many times have we discussed it on,multiple live streams that,when you have good characters you can,get away with some plot holes you,certainly can you can get away with a,lot of stuff,if because a character is king at least,with with us anyway i mean maybe not for,everybody but,character is king and it makes up for a,lot and,some of the kids like,did a really good job some of them were,kind of,but others have improved quite a bit,so uh i yeah i i,and i am probably i dont know i saw,some people not like i love the russia,hopper storyline i dug it i completely,dug it so i thought it was really,strange but i mean its the most ive,enjoyed opposing season one so yeah this,is how much i hated the effing russian,storyline in season three i was like,awful dude and for some reason they,wanted to take harper like because this,is the thing ive actually rewatched,seasons one two and almost all of three,ive got an episode left so im my my,stranger things memories back up to like,full potential now um,man do i [ __ ] hate season two and,three they are so bad uh,and its so its funny to re-watch him,and get all of my like,vague thoughts reaffirmed into like,actual arguments because,all the plot lines are [ __ ] hopper,completely they got they [ __ ] ruined,harper they made him a joke a terrible,dad like someone who just doesnt pick,up on social cues at all someone whos,like like slipstick funny idiot i was,like man did they watch season one hes,like this hardened sort of cold at times,um seasoned veteran cop whos got really,good critical thinking skills and,manages to uncover the plot like almost,on his own yeah,in the first couple of episodes walks to,the back of the you know to the shed,where where will went missing,and immediately,you know got well got sucked into the,upside down for a second you know,um,the putting together that hed lost his,daughter and hes trying to get joyces,son back he refuses to allow that and,remember when they theyre like they,found a body and hes like please dont,let it be him yeah its like hes just,desperate to get the kid back because of,everything with him hes like yeah it,was really endearing,but man like ive had enough of him by,the time you get to season three i,wanted to go away hes just like angry,and its like everyones making jokes,about how fat he is its just like why,why is why he reminds me of him in black,widow,um,yeah you know the same [ __ ] character,but season four theyre bringing him,back hes a lot more calm and collected,and hes very focused on the people he,loves and hes trying to enact some,plans you know just like oh this is much,better,yeah,they they reset a lot of characters,uh i thought joyce was better you know i,i,its the second best season i i will get,into it certainly and and this is gonna,this is a stream of consciousness thats,how thats how i live stream ill try to,keep it in order as much as i can for,mahler whos got a better memory because,hes younger and just because hes,smarter and uh im gonna be all over the,place but ill try to keep it as linear,as possible i dont know how else to,talk about it through making it all,wibbly wobbly its all good to me yeah,because um,it it was pretty clear i thought it the,the first episode was a little slow but,then it got going and in context after,seeing the whole season i think its,its its all pretty good this is the,second best season it could have been,the best,it missed it could easily have been the,best yeah much,a couple of things they could have done,better i thought,which will definitely hit but um,i dont know do you think uh,you were just talking about eddie,eclipsing uh episode four,oh i think he has from what im seeing,online like the amount dude the amount,of tweets ive seen share that three,minute scene and they get like over a,hundred thousand likes and ever and,theyre all different like,dude everyone loves that scene,people who havent even heard master of,puppets before loved that scene,its one of the biggest like a friend of,mine was heavy into metal i showed him,this season and told him what was coming,and i was like and eddie was,automatically favorite character and i,was just like,dude like its obvious metal has,mainstream appeal beyond what a lot of,people even realize,uh,it always has and you have said multiple,times that like they really kind of,dropped the ball by not putting more,metal,uh,they really want to go into the pop,stuff in the 80s and yeah what was,certainly there as as somebody who lived,through the 80s hate it,as somebody but um,uh i survived them and no we werent,listen i mean that stuff was on the,radio a lot that playing susie at the,end was good that was good no no problem,with that but um,there was a a lot more metal that metal,was everywhere because thats the 80s is,where the pump were punk,and metal kind of merged,later in the decade around it it was 86,it was 85 86 87 when that was happened,so we stopped the the pun

i gotta tell ya im having a real good,time with stranger things i loved this,part one uh of season four episodes one,through seven it has the feels,of those classic blockbusters im,talking from back to the future to even,a little bit like jurassic park,it really is like back to the future and,you i think a lot of us felt they,couldnt recapture that cinematic,feeling anymore and for them to do that,with this show,uh its beautiful i love it and i went,to the stranger things experience in new,york city the other day if youre in the,new york city area i highly recommend it,they really went over the top on this,and i got a shirt stranger things i got,the logo shirt they had other shirts but,i wanted to you know simple was best,like that great iconic logo and i got,this drink cup because that was i got,the vip ticket so you could buy this too,but i got i got a free ticket and a free,gift uh you get to cut the line it was,great i highly recommend it,im just i honestly just went on my own,you know,with my with my friends and family i had,an amazing time and i want you to be,able to have a good time that runs all,the way through the end of july so go go,see that,boy i really love this show all right so,you have also made it through all nine,glorious hours all youre cheating but,go back and watch it if you have not,seen it uh of stranger things four part,one so now we can talk spoilers,including,amazing finale how great all the finale,of part one how great was that final,reveal my jaw was on the floor i mean i,knew that jamie campbell bowers orderly,orderly was up to no good and i,suspected he was number one,and vecna or had something to do with,vecna,but i never guessed he was also victor,creels son i thought that was some,demon that was haunting the house they,got me they got me good when they had,that reveal i was like oh my god of,course its so beautiful and its,simplicity but yet you hit it so well,id be curious if any of you guessed,that in advance and also did you really,i mean wow it was great he killed his,mother his own mother who was trying to,get him to go to a doctor because she,suspected that he was the one causing,the problems in the house then he killed,his sister and he passed out before i,thought he passed out before he could,kill his father because he was new to,his powers and then he was like what,luck my dad takes the takes the fall but,yet everyone thought that the whole,family had been killed because dr martin,brenner who his mom had called whisked,him away uh to a le to the lab so he,ended up being locked up in a lab anyway,despite killing his whole his mother and,sister i mean that was really good stuff,that was excellent i loved it uh i they,they really got me with thats that,final twist twist upon twist upon twist,i loved it uh his motivations were a bit,wonky you know he was just bad,apparently,but it was still a great twist because,it was right in front of you the whole,time like you werent like oh come on no,one could have guessed that you were,like oh,you did it that was a good one and also,i think what really seals the deal is,how great a villain vechna is from,whoevers doing the performance under,all that makeup which is so cool and so,well done to also bowers performance as,the orderly that was some charismatic,,i loved it so much,all right we also learned that hes the,very first person to have these special,powers and then 11 was part of this,project by dr brenner to replicate those,powers and probably get someone a little,easier to control the number one i dont,think they ever revealed his name i,looked in the credits and the son uh has,not given a name peter ballard is what,they call him in the in the credit list,you know for when uh for for the who,jamie campbell bowers playing but maybe,thats his orderly name,brenner kept being like he was so,suspicious of him and im like i cant,believe you kept that guy around as an,orderly around all these other children,but anyway im getting ahead of myself,11 was the only other child in the,program to come along with powers at the,level of one potentially so he helped,her to get to his level uh so that she,could help him escape and then also to,team up with him i thought 11 had killed,everybody until right toward the end,when i was like ah the orderly did it,and then of course that was indeed what,happened but then she didnt stay in the,closet and saw that he had killed,everybody and banished him to the upside,down she opened the first rift and he,turned into vecna uh on those on the,press screeners the vfx on that sequence,were a little wonky but it was still,very cool but a little part of me was,sad because i was like were not going,to see any more jamie campbell bower,because hes really an asset to this,show,so good its just as cool as feckner but,i like both of them maybe hell like,talk to her through his mind and thats,where well see jamie campbell bower,again,again,great mystery and all the puzzle pieces,come together i feel in an incredibly,satisfying way power lets talk more,about bauer i loved his hair he had this,sweet wonderful sides you know frontal,sweep when he was the orderly and then,when he got when his powers were,unleashed he became like super cool and,he got you know a little bit like his,hair moosed by his powers i was like,thats hilarious,of course his hair looks cooler when he,becomes you know his powers are,unleashed it was just a really funny uh,detail that i really liked it was so,great and the way he subtly communicates,with eleven up until that point like i,loved when he tapped the one spot about,who he was talking about on that puzzle,she was working on you know to reference,number one who he said well who knows,where one is but he was sitting right,next to him but that was really good i,thought this was a star turn for jamie,campbell bauer if i were another studio,or netflix you know a lot of times,people like to keep this talent they,discover with them,i would sign him up for something,immediately i was really really,impressed with him here and also again,the brenner would keep him around as an,orderly even when he was maybe he felt,this guy would somehow be helpful but,that he could brenner felt that he could,still stay one step ahead of him brenner,always thinks he can stay one step ahead,of everybody and he never does,but,that seems very weird brenner is a,monster but you know is he a monster but,i think he has monstrous elements and i,think thats why hes a perfect person,to talk to 11 about superhero versus,monster that was one of the greatest,speeches on the in this season part 1 in,episode 7 where he says,dealing in these absolutes 11 uh,superhero monster the world is not so,black and white there are graves,hes like i should know,hes great,i thought that was a wonderful speech,and i think actually very true about,what you know about real life,and he said you know he said what have,you done in the flashback to help to,help sell us n11 on it being her fault,that she killed all those people,uh but i mean hed seen the security,tape since then so he knew it was one,but i i dont know why he couldnt just,tell her that and be like youre not a,monster that was some other dude let me,tell let me show you the tape you know,let me show you the security tape but i,guess it had to be done this way not,only to unlock unlock elevens mind and,therefore her powers but i guess its,also more cinematic so anyway very funny,stuff all right so vecna once he once,one becomes vechna i realized that all,the things that come out of his back,when he plugs in to power up i think are,a spider motif its like his legs slash,a web and i thought that was very clever,i dont know why he likes spiders but he,did and that motif was carried out into,his uh branding as a as the big bad,i like the way he slowly moves towards,his prey and the dream sequences,a little bit like robert pattinsons,batman who of course co-starred with,jamie campbell bower in the twilight,movies but that was j

youre terribly frightened by what,youve seen,but im not gonna lie to you,your friends are not prepared for this,fight part two of stranger things season,four only consists of two episodes as,opposed to part 1 7 but that doesnt,mean its a quick watch get ready to set,aside 4 hours for just about all the,upside down madness you can handle and,you can rest assured that there is never,a dull moment this is stranger things at,its most emotional thrilling and,ambitious it also happens to be stranger,things at its very best guaranteed to,give fans everything they want and a,whole lot more,the branching narrative style of,storytelling that was established in the,first part finally converges in a way,that feels mostly very satisfying the,first seven episodes constantly jumped,from california to hawkins to russia and,while theres still a good amount of,that in part two for the most part it,manages to bring our players together in,a way that pays off the patience that,was required for part one my biggest,complaint about part one was that the,mike will jonathan and argyle subplot in,california didnt feel in step tonally,with the rest of the season feeling less,necessary than the hawkins and russia,storylines the good news is that this is,largely remedied in part two they even,managed to justify argyles involvement,beyond mere comedic relief i felt this,intense relief,when she wasnt there no no thats the,purple palm tree delight working its,magic my man and will who is pretty,underserved in part one gets a few,emotional scenes including one,gut-wrenching one in episode 8 that is,easily noah schnapps most impressive,showcase on stranger things thus far,in fact theres a lot of that going on,in part two with several actors,including caleb mclaughlin gayton,matarazzo joe keary sadie sync millie,bobby brown natalia dyer joseph quinn,and david harbour giving some serious,best performances theres a ton of,effects heavy action and exciting plot,momentum but one of the most impressive,things about these two episodes is how,many moments of tenderness it manages to,squeeze in between various characters,with more than a couple of tear-jerking,moments while the run times may seem,overwhelming for some the result is that,not one bit of it feels rushed the,action emotional beats and the many,answered questions about the shows lore,are given plenty of time to breathe,without any of the elements undermining,each other that doesnt mean that it,doesnt feel a tad bit unwieldy at times,though once again the hawkins storyline,is the strongest and its,extraordinarily good at building tension,with vecna as menacing and terrifying as,ever they cant help you max,theres a reason,you hide from them,for the first time in a long time it,truly feels like we could lose some of,these characters and it makes for a,nerve-wracking watch still itll,occasionally halt its own momentum for a,detour to the russian storyline which,takes the california subplots place as,feeling the least necessary in this,installment it might have felt a little,more manageable if episode 9 were split,up into two episodes instead of giving,us such a pack to the brim be a myth of,a finale,but taking season 4 in as a whole its,pretty astonishing how much creators,matt and ross duffer were able to,accomplish both episodes 8 9 9 in,particular feel like big blockbuster,movies in every way especially in the,effects stunts and production design,from the deserts of california to the,slime of the upside down everything,simply looks astonishing and sleeker,than stranger things has ever looked the,ambition that marks season 4 extends to,every single part of these episodes,especially the storyline which really,starts to cement the duffer brothers,master plan for the series overall,setting up whatll have to be an even,bigger final season,the final two episodes of stranger,things season four are the series and,its most emotional action-packed and,tension-filled there are as many thrills,as you could hope for but also quite a,few lovely tender moments between,characters weve come to care so much,about there are so many series best,performances that is hard to single out,any in particular but its especially,nice to see noah schnapps will get a,bit more attention than he did in part,one it still ends up feeling a tad bit,unwieldy but ultimately these four hours,pack in just about everything a stranger,things fan could ask for,for more stranger things check out our,review of season 4 part 1 and our,interview with the actor behind fekna,and for everything else stick with ign

Wow, Stranger Things Got Good

well color me mildly surprised normally,when a popular show starts to noticeably,decline in quality it marks the,beginning of an irreversible death,spiral that inevitably leads to,cancellation or the whole thing,vanishing into irrelevancy just ask,westworld or game of thrones and so it,seemed to be with stranger things one of,the most interesting new shows on,netflix when it first came out way back,in 2016. when it first started it was a,compelling mystery with neat little,touches of horror and dark fairy tale,tragedy and just the right amount of,1980s nostalgia that you almost felt you,were watching some weird mashup of the,goonies halloween and et unfortunately,season two was basically just an,unimaginative retread of previous ground,minus the compelling mystery and,sympathetic characters season 3 on the,other hand was marked by cast bloat,power creep nostalgia burnout and an,unwelcome swerve towards goofy physical,comedy to the point where i even made a,very pissy video complaining about how,[ __ ] stranger things had become it,really felt like a show that had,outlived its own premise either making,unsuccessful trips down creative dead,ends or falling back on the same tired,tropes that were played out two seasons,earlier and id be lying if i said i had,much enthusiasm for the long delayed,season four but holy [ __ ] imagine my,shock when i found myself once again,pulled into a compelling storyline that,teased whole new mysteries rooting for a,cast of characters that felt fresh and,likeable and sympathetic again and,happily letting netflix autoload the,next episode eager to see what would,happen next if i didnt know better id,say that stranger things somehow got,good again but how the [ __ ] did such a,thing come to be well grab your walkman,and join the drinker as we investigate,together the story kicks off about a,year after the events of the previous,season where the main cast have all gone,their different ways resulting in,multiple different storylines that are,running concurrently but taking place in,different parts of the worlds the first,plot line focuses on 11 whos struggling,to make a new life for herself out in,california with joyce will and jonathan,her classmates dont take very well to,her and because shes socially naive and,doesnt have her powers to magically fix,any problem that comes her way shes,kind of vulnerable to their bullying a,visit from mike leads to a disastrous,confrontation at a roller disco and a,falling out between the two of them,meanwhile to nobodys surprise hopper is,alive but not exactly well in a siberian,prison camp how exactly did he survive,being at ground zero for an exploding,particle accelerator well he just kind,of ducked okay dont question it the,point is he knows that his days in the,soviet union are numbered unless he can,break out so he hatches a daring plan to,contact joyce back in america and get,some help springing him from jail both,of these things are basically sideshows,to the main storyline which takes place,back in hawkins where the remaining,characters get caught up in a series of,gruesome murders where the victims float,up into the air and then get crunched up,worse than a [ __ ] ups delivery,clearly something supernatural is at,work here and as more people turn up,dead its up to the gang to discover,whats really going on and put a stop to,it before the whole time gets destroyed,and their mission becomes even more,urgent when one of their own gets,targeted by the mysterious force thats,hunting them like i say theres a lot,going on this season and its not until,the epic final episode that the various,plot lines all come together to resolve,the main narrative but whats impressive,is that all three of these major plot,threads are interesting and entertaining,in their own rights unlike previous,seasons you never feel like you have to,suffer through one tedious storyline to,get to something more interesting and,everything moves along at a fast enough,pace that you always feel like youre,getting something out of it splitting,the main characters up into different,groups was a pretty good way of tackling,one of my big criticisms of season three,which was cast bloats every season had,added new characters and since very few,of them ever died or left the story,permanently the obvious result was that,there were far too many people and not,enough things for them to do case in,point lucas who always felt like the odd,man out of the group just kind of,hanging around in the background with no,clear role and no particular character,arc but now hes become a conflicted,teenager torn between two different,social groups and his attempt to rebuild,his relationship with max now forms the,backbone of a pretty satisfying arc for,him on that subject the writers pulled,off the seemingly impossible with this,one and actually made me care about max,this season id said in my previous,video that she was probably one of the,worst additions to this show just a,generic snarky girl thats moody and,angry most of the time drives a wedge,between ellen mike for no particular,reason and generally acts like an,arrogant [ __ ] towards everyone but,somehow gets accepted into the group,like an annoying ginger messiah even her,abusive relationship with her brother,couldnt make me warm to her and yet,here i was rooting for her to pull,through gripped by a tense scene where,she had to escape the antagonist and,generally liking and empathizing with,her in a way that i never had before i,dont know if the extra years have given,the actress a bit more maturity and,nuance or if the writers were smart,enough to realize that what they were,doing just wasnt working but either way,they absolutely nailed it this time,around another big problem in season 3,was eleven not only was she degenerating,into a generic bratty teenager and,losing the unique aspects of her,character that made her so interesting,but shed become overpowered to the,point where she was [ __ ] crippling,the story she was basically able to use,her powers for almost anything with no,cost to herself and it practically,became a meme that every single,confrontation got resolved by her,screaming in slow motion while suffering,a nosebleeds now shes completely lost,without her powers and her main arc this,season is her struggle to regain them,while also delving deeper into her own,past i mean yeah the show is clearly,retconned in some of her personal,history but not to the point where it,breaks her character completely,basically what im saying here is that,the writers managed to rediscover that,compelling combination of vulnerability,childlike innocence and dangerous,unpredictability that made eleven so,[ __ ] awesome in season one i mean if,i had to be super picky then id say,that mike will and jonathan are,basically stuck in a holding pattern for,a good chunk of the season until the,plot decides its time for them to step,up and do something again its not a,major issue because theres enough other,things going on that you can kind of put,them into the back of your mind but it,does leave them feeling a bit surplus to,requirements this time around and as for,the new additions argyle is decent,enough as a stoner working as a pizza,delivery guy hes basically there for,comic relief and hes fine in small,doses but im glad that the writers,didnt try to give him too much screen,time on the other hand my man of the,match award has got to go to eddie the,leader of a fantasy roleplay group who,witnesses two of the murders and,basically gets framed for the whole,thing hes charismatic and dominant when,hes in his element but when the [ __ ],hits the fan the bravado quickly,vanishes and it becomes obvious that,hes absolutely not a hero but just like,hudson from aliens he comes good in the,end and delivers one of the most,memorable performances the shows ever,seen i also have to give big props to,the tonal shift man i sure hope enzos isnt in the,center of town or theyre gonna have to,have date night somewhere else,yes welcome to my spoiler discussion of,stranger things four part two what where,get this,so in the show theyre like we call them,vecna henry or one and they couldnt,decide and i was thinking about it and i,was like you know i cant choose either,because he really is all those things uh,they all make up this villain so i was,like i cant write that out constantly,in my notes here because theyre copious,so i abbreviated it to,vh1 i wonder if thats intentional,thats hilarious to me and i wish they,would call him vh1 on the show does that,make 11 mtv i just think thats,hilarious,all right so happy stranger things today,ive got my t-shirt on and i let the,intro roll on episode nine i have to say,this season ive been hitting skip intro,a couple of times i must admit because,ive just been so excited to get to the,story but since i dont think its i,dont think were gonna get stranger,things five for a while and that of,course is the final season so i wanted,to really,marinate in stranger things you know so,i i was like let it roll let it roll man,so im curious do you always let the,intro play or do you do you sometimes,hit skip intro but i love it i think,stranger things even if i was slightly a,scooch disappointed in the finale still,have a lot of good things to say about,it though um i still really love this,brand,but what a bummer of a season finale,maybe thats why im struggling with my,emotions you know i would describe this,this part two,like your favorite team getting into the,finals like the final like the playoff,game but then watching them be,absolutely obliterated by the,competition to the point where youre,like how do we even get into the finals,if were so outmatched here i mean it,was insane to watch it it was it was,brutal and i suspect that was,intentional on the part of the duffer,brothers but i think they might have,made it a wee bit too brutal because it,was tough to take especially after we,were doing so great for the first seven,games of the season,it was rough to watch ourselves face,plant like that,now i cried i cried for eddie oh boy did,i cry for eddie and i gotta tell you im,not even sure what he died for because,they still lost and i dont know how,much time he really bought anybody,because they were already in the house,at that point i dont know if those bat,things would have would come would come,in and done anything,but so i put a poll out before these,episodes dropped and i said who do you,think is going to die because they were,really telegraphing that it was going to,be steve but some of you said oh no,grace theyre telegraphing its going to,be eddie because he gave that speech,about the fact that he wasnt a hero and,that hed run away when uh chrissy you,know when that happened to chrissy,uh and you were right that was the,telegraph that was the telegraph but,while the being the hero is important i,think so is living to fight another day,uh,and while i think of course,self-sacrifice for the ones you love is,very honorable i think it really sucked,that he i think it seemed like he died,for nothing except to maybe i guess,clear his conscience also he didnt even,clear his name in town i thought it was,horrible that people were defacing the,missing posters that his uncle was,putting up,dustins speech to his uncle was very,moving cried through the whole thing but,i also felt like some anger the whole,time just like i felt eddies uncle was,feeling,that he and eddie really got a raw deal,which i guess is realistic to life but,ah man it made eddies death cut,particularly deep,but at least he went out in style so,metal indeed and he got to wear maxs,michael myers mask which put a smile on,my face when they did that the cut the,jump cut to what mask did she have,um and then they showed her wearing it,later on in the flashback to her you,know her happier memories,but i think running around the trailer,park where everybody knows eddie lives,and hes missing uh you know hes a,missing person or a person of interest,that the police are after i think anyone,seeing an eddy-sized person wearing,eddie-like clothes wearing a michaels,michael myers mask running around the,trailer park would have known that it,was eddie so i dont know how how,helpful that was but it was a funny,moment,i also cried for max to see her limbs,twist like that like wed scenes happen,to other red shirts,i felt so bad for her and then to see,her tell lucas lying in his arms that,she couldnt see,as she was dying and that she didnt,want to die even though she talked so,much about maybe that she did but when,she was at the moment you know and i,know a lot of people had felt that her,surviving in episode four was like,really a good metaphor for people who,change their mind about suicide and you,know the internal struggle thats there,and then choosing to live,so i wonder how people feel about the,way things went down now with you know,putting this element in there and that,she didnt want to die and she still did,i felt so bad for her,so did eleven who restarted her heart,because she couldnt bear to lose her,friend and i at the end of that montage,of their friendship you know focusing on,you know you know being you know girls,being powerful powerful women being in,charge of their own destinies and the,final line was we make our own rules,which was very good because you know,thats what 11 was doing,but i had the feeling that max max who,max was had already left the building so,to speak right because thats kind of,the impression i got in the hospital,scene when 11 goes into her mind again,into maxs mind again and its empty,theres not even like a comatose max in,her mind or a max who 11 cant reach,its just empty it made me kind of feel,like,maybe 11 had overstepped her bounds,and that she had maybe put max kind of,on life support so to speak but that,maybe max it was too late to save max as,a person which is also devastating oh my,gosh im not sure how they should go,with max i dont know if they should,bring her back or not um but i love the,character so much,uh although i do think its wills turn,now to shine again in uh stranger things,five which we shall discuss he really,won me over with these two episodes boy,talk about going from zero to a hundred,he was fantastic but before we get to,all the other awesome details of episode,eight nine what did i think of them,overall and im curious to hear your,overall impression down below although,im sure youre also still processing it,there was a lot more talking than i had,anticipated i expected it to be,wall-to-wall action because there was so,much action in the first seven episodes,usually you know you build to look to a,lot of action to the end it was weird to,me that they had so much action up front,and then they slowed down for a lot of,talking at the end i was like thats,weird especially when you separate the,final two episodes youre like oh we,came back for talking,uh even the plan to catch vh1 love it uh,was smart it was a smart plan but not,cinematically thrilling if just,something about it wasnt as exciting as,the other action sequences this season,and i was surprised that the characters,kept breaking off into smaller groups to,have lots of little conversations right,like that should have happened i think,earlier in the season i was like oh,were doing this now okay,i think those conversations and those,breaks,took a lot of the wind out of the final,two episode sales and i think it slowed,the momentum of episodes one through,seven which was significant,down to like a crawl,uh also ive never seen so many people,or characters jinx themselves when,talking about future plans you never,talk about future plans when youre,going into a dangerous scenario for a,show thats like an homage to all these,classic movies and stuff its weird that,the characters ignore those classic,rules why is jamie kennedy from screen,when you need them to explain
