[Music],ive been dumped in the middle of a,foreboding eerily quiet wilderness like,you typically are in open world survival,games as i make my way to the nearest,coast im startled out of my foraging by,a beastial grunt and prepare to defend,myself but the hunched and disheveled,creature pursuing me stops several yards,short of tearing my face off,and waits to see what i do,this was the moment i realized the,forest was going to spend the next 30ish,hours cleverly and terrifyingly,subverting my expectations,[Music],the wooded alpine peninsula that becomes,your home is inhabited by several tribes,of feral macabre cannibals who mark,their territory with grotesque effigies,of human skin and bone from their,victims theyre not suicidally,aggressive though and thats what makes,them so unsettling the forests greatest,triumph is the convincing,self-preservation of the ai that governs,their behavior sometimes they run away,sometimes theyre content to follow you,at a safe distance to figure out where,your base is so they can report back to,their friends sometimes theyll charge,you to test your medal but stop short if,you dont back down,there are fascinating and observable,differences in behavior between the,different tribes between individuals in,the same tribe and even contextual,attitudes based on how much they have,you outnumbered what time of day it is,and how much youve changed the,environment with the simple but,functional base building system the,feeling that i was sharing these woods,with intelligent enemies with the,capacity for rationality and complex,decision-making sent actual shivers up,my spine,its fear above and beyond being chased,by something that just wants to kill you,as fast as possible,below the surface things can get a bit,more frustrating a big source of this,frustration was the fact that for some,reason the forest doesnt have any gamma,adjustment settings and the default left,many story critical caves outright too,dark to play through without darkening,the room around me,your only renewable light source is one,of those little gas station lighters,which can barely let you see as far out,as your own outstretched hand and this,led to a lot of getting lost,using darkness to create tension can be,great but this is overdoing it the story,you discover down in those depths is,worth the trek though its a,multi-layered and creepy slow burn doled,out through abandoned camcorder tapes,disturbing discoveries and clues left,behind by your son who was kidnapped,just after the plane crash that stranded,you here the mysteries go deep and take,you to some very unexpected environments,that excitingly contrast the arboreal,overworld and natural cave systems the,relatively small size of the map at,least compared to other survival games,is also a boon,making it more likely that youll find,at least some of the story areas without,having to dive into a wiki,[Music],on top of your food and water gauges a,sanity score tracks how far youre,willing to go to survive up to and,including going native and cannibalizing,the cannibals the final moments of the,story tie up the question of how much of,your humanity youre willing to lose to,survive with an interesting moral choice,however i do wish sanity had more,noticeable impact on how you play,other than unlocking the ability to,build effigies out of body parts to mark,your territory when it gets below a,certain point the difference between 100,and zero felt pretty negligible the,8-player co-op mode offers a distinctly,different and enjoyable way to play,having friends takes the tension down,several notches and makes some of the,story stuff almost trivially easy but,also enables building imposing and,expansive bases that would be,prohibitively time consuming alone since,the inhabitants of the island become,more persistent and aggressive as time,goes on especially if you plop a,fortress in the middle of their hunting,grounds it becomes something of a horde,mode that i had a really good time with,ive never been terrorized stalked or,fascinated by enemy ai quite like i was,in the forest,its a harrowing survival ordeal that,knows how to play with tension and,create a sense of a real world with,complex inner workings and mysteries i,was eager to discover its i am legend,told in the depths of the hinterlands,with a meaningful story progression that,doesnt overstay its welcome disregard,the warnings on the walls and hidden,between the trees at your own peril but,if you want a unique and memorable,survival horror experience then you,should absolutely dare to do so,for more survival games check out our,reviews of rust subnautica and frost,punk,and for everything else stick with ign

[relaxed music playing],[rattling shriek],[awkwardly_paddling_away.mp3],“The Forest” is one of the first Early Access games I ever bought, right outside of “Natural Selection 2” and “Minecraft”.,It was part of that early “Minecraft”/“Day Z” survival game craze, back when Steam Greenlight was a thing.,It had every single Cursed Rune trait. However, this one had a lot that appealed to me.,It was singleplayer only, so no nightmare netcoding. It was focused on survival and had an actual story.,And, to top it all off, the threat wasn’t going to be zombies. It wasn’t clear what exactly the danger was.,Because, while I liked “Minecraft” survival, you didn’t have the constant danger experience, outside of multiplayer.,Sure, someone can stalk you around and plot a breaking and entering, but it’s not the same.,In singleplayer, a simple wall or door kept you safe at night. So “The Forest” was what I was looking for.,I bought it for $15, and now, all these years later, it’s out of Early Access and done.,The story is finished, and they even added multiplayer. So let’s see how it went.,[*woosh*],Wat?!,The game has a simple, but intriguing premise.,You’re a dad, and on a flight with your son Timmy and his unfortunate haircut.,You learn why Spirit Airlines gets the rates it does, as the plane crashes into the earth unexpectedly.,You survive the crash, but your son is taken by a mysterious red figure.,From here, it’s up to you to survive the mysterious forest you’ve crashed into and find your son.,But it soon becomes clear you’re a trespasser. There are strange creatures watching you, and some definitely don’t appear to be human.,And that’s it.,How are you so good at survival? How come you’re not immediately being rescued? Why did the plane crash at all, and what IS living in the woods?,Well, a lot gets answered, but I’ll save that for the end. Let’s focus on graphics for now.,For a small indie developer aiming as high as realism, it’s damn good. It’s also impressive how many art assets are from the Early Access 2014 version.,Textures were upgraded, the engine was updated, but “The Forest” has always been a very pretty game.,The lighting effects are nice, and improved a lot over time, but I think something changed for the worst with the shader for sunlight.,It seems more washed out and overblown than I remember.,It looks fine when you’re actually under the trees (which is where you’ll spend most of your time anyway), but outside of that I find it weirdly hazy.,It’s not terrible or anything, but there might be some original “Forest” players who also remember a gloomier time.,It’s not a big deal – you can easily tweak down settings like Bloom.,Isn’t it nice when there’s just easy options for all this stuff? I’m not bitter at all.,You can play with color grading if you want the game to be set in Hollywood Mexico, or Hollywood… everywhere else in a scary movie, really.,There’s a lot to tweak.,The giant cave systems are also filled with detail and absolutely horrifying.,“The Forest” is one of those games that does darkness correctly. Darkness is DARK. Night isn’t just some blue filter, it is BLACK.,They did a great job creating a realistic woodland environment.,The map itself is handcrafted, so you never see anything too wonky,,and a lot of your items are based on real world counterparts and brands, like the BIC or CIL lighter.,Having all that stuff grounded in normalcy is great for immersion, but it also helps make the unusual that much more uncomfortable.,[tap-tap-tap-tap-tap],What “The Forest” really excels at is the sound design. This is some top tier ambience.,[soft whispering of the rain],[wet slapping of feet in the mud, rustling of shrubbery],[strong hum of wind in tree crowns, soothing crackling of fire],[*munch-munch*],[*squeak*],If you’ve spent some time in the North American forest, you’ll recognize a lot of sounds.,The specific bird calls, the way the wind moves through the trees –,it is remarkably accurate, and it’s clear that a lot of attention was given to making sure that everything sounded right.,[shrill rattle off in the distance],But you never forget that THEY’re out there too.,[crackling of fire],???: “ACH!!”,???: “Ach!”,???: “Roch!”,There’s no music sting when they’re nearby, no little icon on your HUD – there’s nothing.,Your only warning at night might be some bushes moving and some twigs snapping.,So less is more. “Less” being “sound”, and “more” being “paranoid”.,[rattling shriek comes from the darkness],There is some music.,[80s workout music],There are collectible cassette tapes and, naturally, they all play 80s’ montage music. I don’t think there’d be anything more appropriate.,(this ones probably called “Propel It to the Extreme”) [energetic tune with synths and guitar],[energetic tune with synths and guitar],Yeah, you feel like fighting back!,[energetic tune with guitars and invigorating percussion],It’s kind of shocking for a game like this, but it’s a kickass soundtrack.,There’s also a great non-diegetic soundtrack, but it mainly plays at story moments, so I can’t do those here.,There’s some great guitar and synth work. There was even some music that reminded me of The Animals of all things.,You appreciate the music a lot when it comes in, since the game is usually devoid of it, but it’s a perfectly appropriate grindhouse score.,So it has some strong presentation, especially for such a tiny team. So, good going so far. Now let’s talk about the gameplay.,You’ve got 4 difficulties to choose between. These can make your enemies or your survival meter harder, but you could also turn the enemies off.,There is a creative mode, but you need to beat the story to unlock it. It’s a little strange.,Your plane will crash in one of a few preordained locations. Like I said before, there’s only one map, so no procedural generation jank here.,So you start gathering stuff up to survive. Which at first means rifling through suitcases for snack bars and drinks, but things get more complicated.,You could eat berries, but some are poison, so you need to learn to eat the RIGHT berries.,You could drink standing water, but that’s basically poison too – it’s untreated.,So you’ll need to make a rain collector, or boil it properly – you get what I mean.,There are several ways to get meat. You could go the old-fashioned route and just hunt it down.,But meat has the problem of spoiling. And meat will go bad here in only a few in-game hours.,So you could go for the trapping approach and then save your food for later, or hang your meat to dry in the wind, though this will take a lot longer.,You can also forego meat entirely, so you have a lot of options to keep the meters filled.,Even on Hard Survival, the “survival” part is pretty easy.,You may begin to wonder why birds constantly land around you, just completely still,,or why deer will just give up on life and accept death right in front of you.,That, or self-immolating themselves in the campfire for political reasons.,The animal AI has constant breakdowns.,Small prey animals, like rabbits and squirrels react realistically and get the hell out when they see you coming,,but so many animals will just come right to you, that it gets really silly.,As you’d expect, going vegan will add some challenge into your life. Otherwise, it’s painfully easy to get tendies with very little effort.,Then again, sodas are one of the best rehydrators in the game, restores your energy, and booze cures cold.,If you’re ever at risk of hypothermia, and have booze, DON’T DO THAT.,So, if you turn on peaceful mode, wanting to roleplay “Hatchet” or “My Side of the Mountain”, you might find that lacking.,But, to be fair, having to eat airplane meals is just one struggle of the game.,You still need to be collecting resources and building up, because you need to build real estate and club turtles.,If you can’t make food and drink at home yet, that means going out and possibly dealing with the neighbors.,It’s a lot more likely they’ll find you than

whats the first thing you would do when,you and your son finally arrive at the,holiday of your dreams on a gorgeous,remote island well you would head to the,nearest pristine golden beach of course,and get yourself set up for the day in,the hope that you wont be disturbed,during your day of pure relaxation,ah,okay now,i can never enjoy anything kind of,its obviously some nudist beach in it,you know i didnt put trunks on did a,theyre not going to walk around with,[ __ ] and bollocks out well that plan,went out the window pretty early into my,holiday because not only did i realize,that my [ __ ] son timmy had gone,missing but these island locals werent,exactly your typical island folk either,and they didnt seem very welcoming to,tourists like at all in fact they were,just plain rude so as an experienced,brit abroad you tried to make the most,of these situations find the local,boozer get shit-faced find a secluded,non-nudist beach just to crunk some of,your own tunes in peace before embracing,the islands culture and befriending the,locals with your new positive can do,attitude,[Music],[Music],uh,[Music],the forest is one of my all-time,favorite survival games and the standout,reason for that is because theres a,worthwhile plotline to invest in with,multiple endings this reason alone is,never enough to make a survival game,stand shoulder to shoulder with other,survival classics but giving players,that meaningful end goal with immersive,and highly disturbing environmental law,scattered all over a huge island should,be a standard inclusion in survival,games i learned to live without a story,in most survival games of the past with,my own imagination being the limitation,of my story but theres not much wiggle,room to imagine a plot outside of i must,survive in this area ive been dropped,into the forest does exactly that though,you dropped into an area that you must,survive in and even though developers,and night havent ignored the,fundamentals of what makes a good,survival game they went above and beyond,what most developers invest in world,building and especially from a narrative,point of view were not spoon-fed this,story either theres an immersive sense,of realism to exploring the islands,surface making notes in your journal as,you go before finding your first cave,entrance and realizing theres a whole,underground network of haunting and,intertwining cave tunnels that are home,to some terrifying cannibals and,deranged mutants and while you explore,this island and the caves beneath youll,start to piece together the story behind,these cannibals and mutants finding,various clues like magazine cutouts,photographs videotapes evidence of,previous survivors religious literature,and childrens drawings and believe me,the answers youll find are gruesomely,awesome like with many survival games,building yourself a base is a huge,aspect to the game but in all honesty,its totally optional you could play for,10 to 20 hours just exploring the island,and complete the game without building,one significant structure i highly,advise you do invest some time into,building though especially if youre,like me and you enjoy it and you can,deal with the grind of manually chopping,down trees and finding various ways to,streamline the transport of your logs,back to your base because before you,know it youll be hooked and youll have,completely lost track of time while,youre crafting the most pointless and,unnecessary decorations bringing into,question whether this even is survival,at all costs like are you building a,base or are you actually building a home,im sat in a toilet that ive made,that i know ill be sat here later,having a [ __ ],thinking what am i doing,what am i doing depending on your,difficulty setting youll be left to,your own devices during the early days,on the island figuring out where you,want to set up shop but make no mistake,eventually the cannibals will start to,come their behavior is not like anything,ive seen in a game before because they,dont just attack on sight they just,come and watch you its creepy as [ __ ],just minding your own business crafting,a little houseboat and some naked bloke,is just stood there staring theyll,start to get closer and closer to you,before turning up with more numbers the,next time maybe one will even take a,little swing at you before running off,again and before you know it youve got,an army of cannibals probing for,weaknesses and hunting you down day in,day out thats where picking the best,location and building some defense is,coming its vital if youre planning to,build a base for the long term you can,even build these human effigies of the,cannibals body parts to send horrific,and slightly excessive warnings to the,locals that youre not to be messed with,but not only do the cannibals attack you,eventually theyll send out these,rhino-esque mutants or a collection of,flying penises thatll obliterate your,walls in no time and during this whole,time youve been faffing around building,yourself a new beachside home mind you,youve been earning the father of the,year award totally neglecting your son,whos in desperate need of his fathers,assistance oh my god im communicating,with nature uh hey dad,can i talk to you not now son i love the,inventory menu i mean its probably the,greatest inventory menu of all time in,fact this inventory menu needs an award,inventory menu design of the year award,and you know what it doesnt even work,that well when your backpack is,jam-packed with stuff but just look at,it im getting carried away slightly,here but its so cool to physically see,all my items when crafting an item in my,backpack green hell has something,similar too but alongside this inventory,menu the crafting on the whole is great,and really expansive theres some key,items that are essential to progressing,the story theres other items that are,equally important that also help,exploration like the rebreather and the,climbing axe but theres so many things,to craft on top of this finding one item,can open up a whole new list of crafting,options too theyre all nicely tied into,the environment whether youre infected,from not washing off the blood of your,enemies needing aloe vera mixture to,heal or you need multiple animal skins,to craft a warm suit to head up into the,snowy mountains or getting lucky and,finding a flashlight maybe with some,batteries to combine but not only that,now you can duct tape that flashlight to,your weapons which comes in pretty handy,when fighting off swarms of cannibals in,an ill-lit cave using armor is probably,the most important key to survival,because even though theres the typical,stamina bar as well as hunger and thirst,to manage its actually pretty heavy on,the combat aspect of the game youll be,fighting a fair bit especially heading,into the late game and crafting enough,of the various types of armor is the,difference between life and death either,burning down a cannibals body and using,their bones to craft an armor piece or a,thick meaty skin of a mutant or even,using a lizards skin to craft an armor,piece thatll increase your stealth and,therefore decrease your visibility if,you prefer to approach sneakily the,forest is full of tiny intricate details,and systems that are so much fun to,learn and going in blind is all part of,the fun im jealous of anyone crash,landing on this island and experiencing,the game for the first time and if you,know of a fellow survival enthusiast,looking to explore with theres a co-op,system here too one area i thought that,was pretty weak in the game was an area,thats often weak in a lot of survival,games and thats the combat aiming is,floaty and although you can figure the,basic principles of the mechanics fairly,easily even without the use of a,crosshair and aiming to account for the,drop-off in trajectory its just not,that satisfying the enemy animations are,limited and their hit feedback feels so,bland at times even when you eventually,find weapons like a flintlock pistol a,ch

The Forest Review // Is It Worth It in 2022?!

for everyone watching this channel its,no secret i actually dont like survival,games but this is actually a very rare,exception and in this video were going,to be reviewing the forest and whether,it is worthy to buy right now or whether,its just move on like with the majority,of the survival games so without further,ado lets just get it started and as,always with every single one of my,videos im going to be giving you the,answer right away to not waste your time,because yeah im not here to waste your,time and youre not here to waste yours,as well and the answer is this yes the,forest is absolutely worth it because,despite this being one of the first big,survival games in this genre its,actually one of the best with his deep,survival mechanics and very intense,atmosphere and pretty intriguing story,as well this game is one of the rare,gems of the survival genre but its not,without its flaws so let me explain so,first things first what is force first,is single player or cop survival game,where your goal is to survive on this,peninsula island and im not sure if,its island or not its called peninsula,i think but it has the name of peninsula,and your goal to survive against the,hordes of cannibals and to unlock some,secrets of the peninsula weirdly enough,game has the story so you have a,distinct reason why you are on the,peninsula and you have a distinct goal,so youre playing as a father and you,travel with your son on a plane and the,plane just crash lands on this,mysterious world place and as you wake,up you see the man painted in red taking,away your child little timmy and yes,first things first there is a reason why,this guy is painted in red and the yes,overall goal is to find the tv and well,find a way to get out of the peninsula,and as you can see immediately when you,start the game you have a reason why you,are there and you have a goal to go,towards which already makes this game,much better than the majority of the,survival games and weirdly enough this,game has very interesting story as well,which im not going to be spoiling dont,worry about it at the start of the game,your goal is basically to find a lot of,to find a food clear water to heal your,injuries and find or rather build the,shelter we have an interesting survival,book which gives you all the blueprints,that you need in order to well survive,and this book contains a lot of,different info a lot of different,blueprints starting from a very simple,campfire ending with a giant buildings,and we can even build even wooden,fortresses and the building system in,this game is very very interesting,because when you start building you are,actually as you are actually seeing the,silhouette of the end product and all,you need to do is just to bring the,different resources in order to complete,the building its actually pretty fun,and pretty interesting thing to do and,the ambiance of your surroundings is,simply insane this is one of the most,ambient games that ive ever heard and,because of this it is completely,terrifying despite this game not,technically being a horror boy you will,be scared a lot because at first youre,going to start hearing these chilling,voices in a distance and as the time,progresses these voices will come closer,and closer to you until youll actually,start seeing someone and this someone is,your locals your cannibals these,individuals are hell-bent on killing you,and at first youre going to be seeing a,regular humans and then it will continue,with a little bit of mutations which,again im not gonna be uh swirling,anything to you but what makes this,enemies very interesting is its ai you,see the enemies are very smart theyre,not gonna be just swarming at you as,soon as they will see you at first they,will actually work around you just see,how see how well defended you are,whether whether you look at them or not,and at first they will not even attack,you but when they will find out that,youre actually not protected well,enough they will start attacking you and,and because of its very interesting eye,if for example two cannibals are,attacking you and you will kill one of,them the second one will actually run,away because this cannibal will know,that it doesnt have enough strength to,defeat you and he will just run away and,as time progresses more and more of them,will attack you with more sophisticated,patterns which basically forces you to,progress through the game as quickly as,possible build the stronger strongholds,and be prepared overall against their,attacks the combat in this game is very,clunky and very floaty but its still i,would say good enough its not great but,its good enough but when game becomes,truly terrifying is during the nights,and when you start descending into caves,which you should do in order to progress,to the story then the terrifying part,starts because of the games lighting,because when the knight comes in this,game or where you do it when and when,you descend into the caves it is truly,dark there is no light or anything its,complete and utter pitch black darkness,and all you have is maybe a little torch,or maybe a little lighter to light up,the very immediate distance in front of,you or around you and it is completely,and utterly terrifying when you will see,how some kind of enemy or some kind of,cannibal jumps,at you from the darkness its completely,terrifying and its very very fun as,well the story of this game unravels in,this case and the best loot and the best,things to find are located in those,caves so if you want to progress to the,game and if you really want to complete,the game you need to be descending into,the caves it makes a bit less terrifying,when youre playing with friends and yes,you are allowed to play and completely,soaring co-op as well but its still,insanely atmospheric graphic wise game,is pretty old because this game is,almost a decade old now but it still,looks pretty okay with an exception of,the faces uh when youre gonna see a,faces of the different humans uh yeah,its gonna live very uncanny valley,feeling but overall its pretty good,enough and with all of those things and,with all of those things and all of,those elements game adds up into,something very interesting and very,beautiful and because of this atmosphere,game is intensely interesting to play to,see whatever the hell is happening on,this peninsula and why you are even here,or why you crash-landed or where this,creepy guy took your son or whether hes,alive or even or not but yeah game is,good game is fun but is it worth it or,not so game is available on steam for,the base price of 19.99 for tier 1,countries and 10 49 for tier 2 countries,and can go as low as 4.99 for tier 1,countries and 2 262 for tier 2 countries,is it worth it for those prices well,absolutely yes this is one of the best,single player survival games and the one,of the best cobb survival games overall,ever with an intense atmosphere very,interesting survival system and,terrifying enemies which will become,weirder and weirder as you progress,through the game and with pretty,interesting story the game is one of the,must play survival games overall in,survival game genre and unless youre,looking some for some pvp action which,this game does not have this game is one,of the best survival games ever yes its,clunky the combat is not that great,especially when you go into a bit of,firearms its its not very good and,its just very very clunky but if youre,gonna forgive this just play for an,atmosphere and play for the survival,games through mechanics and play for the,story youre gonna enjoy this game,through and through and for that reason,i highly recommend it and seeing how,many people are still playing this game,after so many years with this player,base fluctuating from 5 000 to 20 000 at,any given time this game is still good,enough to play even right now so yep i,highly recommend the forest go and get,it well this will a,lone survivor have to figure out a way,to survive its not long however until,this familiar setup turns an unexpected,corner and the forest evolves into a,uniquely harrowing adventure that you,wont soon forget,blood-curdling screeches fill the night,and glowing eyes watch you from a,distance your new home island isnt as,empty as it appears,cannibals inhabit the grassy fields and,pristine lakes around you watching your,every move theyre the source of the,forest ever-present tension you might,expect mindless monsters like this to,attack on sight but their behavior is,erratic sometimes theyll charge forward,to unsettle you during daylight but stop,just outside striking distance to simply,stare at you in silence other times they,might faint a retreat before leaping up,into surrounding trees and getting,behind you the settlement you eventually,create is invaded by waves of larger,more imposing foes who you pray will,retreat as you thin their numbers the,forest enemies arent easy to predict,which makes each encounter a thrill,the breath of enemy types is impressive,too and the forest isnt straight from,leaning into the weird either as you,explore the island more and dive into,terrifying pitch black caverns enemies,transform into terrifying body horror,figures amalgamations of appendages that,bellow deep disturbing howls theyre,frightening to behold and even scarier,to fight the force does a good job of,trickling out these surprises while,youre already struggling to manage your,vital meters and resources its also,imperative that you keep a close eye on,the quality of the resources you find,not every berry bush contains a bounty,that wont poison you and that all still,water is safe to drink meat you gather,from hunted animals will rot if not,cooked quickly none of the resulting,illnesses are serious enough to dissuade,you from eating questionable food to,stave off death but needing to think,twice about what you eat has an,additional layer to the standard,hunter-gatherer gameplay base,construction is equally engrossing due,to the sheer number of structures youre,able to build the forest doesnt Gate,its creative building with elusive,blueprints instead from the outset it,gives you a notebook filled with,outlines for structures knowing how to,build shelters gardens and defenses,isnt the challenge the forest wants to,impose instead it shifts this on to the,risky task of acquiring resources to,build at all chopping down trees for,logs or scouting a route to clean water,is paramount in your first few days on,the island and once you establish,yourself this goal shifts to fortifying,your position with complex spike traps,and tree swings the construction of,which is deeply satisfying building has,a tangible effect on the island in,several ways resources like small game,and shrubs will respawn over time but,larger trees will remain felled for the,entirety of your stay you might turn a,dense forest into an open field of,stumps not long after you start but,thatll also give enemies a clear line,of sight into your doings the more you,impose yourself in the island the more,aggressive your aggressors become,patrols will grow and the more monstrous,creatures will emerge from their caves,for an all-out assault the force doesnt,force you to play in any specific way,though so a more reserved nomadic,approach is sometimes safer and more,viable,crafting smaller items plays a big part,when it comes to personal safety to your,inventory screen allows you to combine,items youve collected to create new,tools from something as simple as,combining a few sticks and stones to,make an axe to creating high-powered,explosives using a combination of,wristwatches electrical bores and spare,change the number of items you can both,collect and craft is vast but the,inventory page eventually becomes,cumbersome and overwhelming to navigate,and with only four customisable hotkeys,you dont actually have a lot of easy,access to what you want in a pinch at,the very least the forest never feels,too overbearing youll always be able to,depend on your crafted weapons as they,arent hampered by durability your,pocket letter will help you see in the,dark never running out of vital fluid,either this frees you from the burden of,worrying about the lifespan of any,potential upgrades you can make youre,incentivized to craft upgrades to,weapons that improve their damage and,speed while other combinations that you,create more illuminating torches with,limited burning times exploration and,survival games is usually tied only to,your immediate well-being but the forest,features a narrative slowly uncovered by,exploration and incidental environmental,storytelling abandoned camps are great,hunting ground for modern resources but,they also hint at past events cannibal,villages feature gory displays of,victims but also contain vital clues,small photographs videotapes and,magazines that flesh out a conspiracy,with the island at the center with a kid,there the forest doesnt have to be a,lonely experience and it offers,cooperative player for up to eight,people the time spent getting a,fortified settlement up and running is,drastically reduced then but remains,just as compelling cooperative play does,however deflate tension larger groups of,enemies become easier to deal with and,the fear of diving into caves alone is,undercut by both voice chat and the fact,that enemies dont really scale,according to your party size the forest,might be silly fun with friends but its,best when playing alone yeah guys I got,this,[Music],guys take a break I got this super swell,now guys,theres a lot to think about when it,comes to surviving in the forest but the,balance between each of its interlocking,parts keeps the game moving at a,riveting pace for every danger the,island offers theres a smart solution,around a corner combined with,unpredictable enemy actions and,captivating horror set pieces the forest,strikes 20 Beginners Tips for The Forest | Survival Game Guide

[Music],hey guys welcome to another video and I,am back in the forest you can see here,this is my base I have some stone walls,surrounding the back end of the plane,but a nice little Hut here and some,internal walls plus a series of traps,that go round the outside of the base,what we can see as well that Ive,sectioned off certain areas and this was,really to reduce the mutant movement now,with this video what I plan to do is,cover 20 tips for beginners I did a,video like this a few years back and it,was very popular and I thought I would,do it with the new up-to-date version so,we have some brand new incoming tips for,beginners in fact intermediate players,may find some of these useful as well ok,lets get started first it is I like to,stay near the plane now some players,argue against this saying that the,cannibals come to this location well,theyre going to come anyway once you,get to a certain stage in the game one,of the handy things about being by the,plane the reason why I do it is because,it respawns a lot of these stuff inside,every time you load back in restart the,game you can come in and collect up some,food theres like four meals in here,its plain food so it doesnt really,give you much but its certainly very,handy and this is tip 2 that these plane,sections provide good defense look at,this in a sense this is one side of the,base it provides protection down that,end of the base and I find that very,useful and you can fact build steps up,to the plane and climb onto the plane,giving you vantage over the incoming,coming cannibals tip three,into a full sense of security in the,beginning its quiet and thats bearing,in mind that I have it on normal setting,here and thats probably where youre,gonna start normal setting its quite in,the beginning but once you get enough,buildings down the cannibals will start,coming and when they do its pretty,common to have cannibals every day so,you need your defenses up tip four,follows on from that stone walls are the,best defense when youre dealing with,the tough mutants Im talking about that,the Rhino mutant who charges youve got,some immunes who will charge any wooden,structure and destroy it within seconds,so I put stone walls up around platforms,where I feel its necessary one of the,nice things about stone walls is the,stones respawn on the floor all over the,place so you can just cycle around from,front to back and by the time you get,there the stones should be respawned and,you can just keep building tip 5 find a,good supply of arrows you gonna need one,these pesky cannibals will keep coming,at you and arrows are one of the best,ways of dealing with them now a good way,of making sure you know where that,supply of arrows is is by placing down a,marker you can build these from your,book we go to the end here you go a,marker stick marker you can cycle,through and put different colors on that,marker so you roughly can remember,what is at that location you can see in,the distance here I have a blue flag I,follow that line Ill come to a camp,where I have a good supply of arrows,series of boxes that I can loot and they,respawn every time you come back into,the game so bear that in mind,tip 6 I love using these skull lamps,especially the ones on sticks you can,just place around that light lasts,forever and they are very handy whereas,you know if you put a fire down it will,go out pretty quickly,so using these skull lamps is a top tip,and I always do it so when youre using,the boat try and get head shots it will,kill them it can be difficult sometimes,theyre theyre quite wily these,cannibals they move pretty quickly,especially the ones that run around like,dogs but once you have killed them you,can pick up the bodies and put them on,to fires like this one,lets get that litter game use some,notes to get burning and then you throw,the body on and then its not long until,that body turns into a pile of bones,then next to its build next away you,build your fire,construct a bone holder there the bone,basket need 21 sticks to do that put it,next to that and then when they break up,into the bones you can collect it in the,basket like this one here you can hear,youre getting breaks up another really,handy thing about burning the cannibal,bodies it gets rid of all the disease in,the area and you want to get skulls out,of it which as I point out already a,really good for making the skull lamp,economical you get building materials,you can use these to make fences,so one of my priorities when I first set,up the game of my base is to put some,drying wax down so I can hang some meat,on there and also to find a coastal,location where you can kill and gather,the turtle shells and then you turn them,up and you can build these water,collectors which makes perfect sense so,you put these down and then when it,rains like it is at the moment they will,gather water which is very handy so,thats in my internal basin right in the,core of the base Ive set that up food,and water so tip 9 another thing that I,do to manage my inventory is I put up,some large cabinets next to the plane so,that when the stuff spawns in on the,plane I can stash some of it on these,shelves because you cant carry too many,you can only carry so many items and by,having these you can store them on the,shelves when they spawn in and youre,not wasting them in a sense these cost,eight logs to build the is the large,cabinet I put that next to the plane,quite often or in a part of the base,there are a number of traps in game this,is the log full trap if you line it up,with a fence you tend to find that,Cowboys run along the fence line and,just like that one there they can be,crushed by the falling log there we go,so that is pretty theyre pretty good,things I like these traps you can reset,them using one stick like so you gotta,be careful because you will take damage,if this log hits you this falls on you,trigger,but they can be very effective as I say,I find the most effective place to put,them is at the end of these fences,definitely the most effective place and,you can see weve worked to treat them I,took out two or three cannibals I think,my favorite trap has to be the Happy,Birthday trap this one here it does,require some rizal so 20 sticks for logs,to stone and to rope rope becomes scarce,er the longer the game goes on so they,can theyre fairly expensive but theyre,well worth it and you can reset them,using a stick and theres a trigger,mechanism at the back there you can see,and when the cannibals walk will run,over them towards them this way they,will be impaled and die and then you can,reset them collect the bodies and I said,before you can then collect the bones,from those bodies for your resources but,they are awesome and one of the nice,things about it is they also act like an,alarm so they make a very distinctive,swishing noise when they go off and it,tells you if you werent necessarily,aware of it then the cannibals are close,at hand the happy birthday trap my,favorite tip 12 lets have a look at,gathering resources so for me my ethos,as I run around in the forest is to,constantly pick up stones slash at,animals take down branches and twigs so,we can gather those sticks up so I have,got a constant safe Im heading in one,direction Ill be thinking right stone,sticks weve got the maximum number of,those and as far as the stones are,concerned I will have stone walls being,made all the time because once youve,collected five stone and thats what we,can carry,and you may as well drop it off a wall,as you run past it,so I think its just a question of being,efficient and building as quickly as you,can because as I said before cannibals,will soon start coming to your base so,were being as efficient as possible,gathering all the time but to make that,even better build bags so youve got you,stick back for example now that requires,one rabbit-skin two ropes and three,cloth and then you can carry up to 20,sticks same goes for the pouch you have,to equip the pouch actually
