Drawing My Smoothie and Subway Sandwich as Prom Dates
Hello and welcome back to my YouTube channel! I'm Becca, and today I'm going to let a random art generator decide what I draw. The generator I'll be using is called "Wanna Draw." It gave me the prompt of "the last thing you ate going to prom." Since the last thing I ate was a smoothie from Tropical Smoothie and a Subway sandwich, I thought it would be fun to draw them as prom dates.
Using a Random Art Generator
Random art generators are a great tool for artists who are looking for inspiration or want to challenge themselves by drawing something unexpected. They provide prompts that can spark creativity and take your art in different directions. By letting the generator decide what to draw, you can explore new subjects and break out of your comfort zone.
Deciding on What to Draw: The Last Thing I Ate
When the random art generator presented me with the prompt of "the last thing you ate going to prom," I thought it was a fun and unique idea. It allowed me to combine two different food items, my smoothie and Subway sandwich, and turn them into prom dates. This gave me the opportunity to create a quirky and lighthearted illustration.
Drawing My Smoothie and Subway Sandwich
To start, I sketched out the basic shapes of the smoothie and sandwich on my paper. I wanted to capture the essence of both items and transform them into characters. The smoothie would become a person, while the sandwich would retain its sandwich-like features but with added personality.
Adding Fun and Colorful Elements to the Sandwich
To make the sandwich more visually interesting, I decided to add vibrant and colorful elements to it. I drew two large tomato slices, some lettuce, and a layer of cheese. I played around with proportions and placement to ensure the sandwich looked appealing and appetizing. However, I realized that the size of the tomatoes may not be accurate, but for the purpose of turning food into living creatures, I embraced the creative freedom.
Giving the Sandwich a Personality
To give the sandwich character, I decided to draw a nice hat on it. I wanted it to have a fun and whimsical feel, so I chose a safari-style top hat. I also added a collar, although it was more of a floating collar than a traditional one. The collar was meant to add a touch of sophistication to the sandwich's overall look.
Designing the Sandwich's Outfit: The Prom Date
Continuing with the prom theme, I decided to dress up the sandwich in an entire jacket. I erased the unnecessary lines underneath and drew a pocket where I placed a boutonniere. Admittedly, my drawing skills for a boutonniere were not the best, but I wanted to include this detail to make the sandwich's outfit more formal and stylish.
Creating the Sandwich's Accessories
To complete the sandwich's look, I added a pair of fancy shoes and arms. I debated whether to give the sandwich arms or leave it as a stubby creature that hopped around. Ultimately, I decided to give it arms but without sleeves. After all, why would a small arm need a sleeve? With the addition of arms and shoes, the sandwich character started to come together.
Drawing the Smoothie as a Person
Now it was time to turn the smoothie into a person. I started by sketching out the basic shape for the cup. Then, I planned out the design for the smoothie's dress, envisioning a tight waist belt to show off the smoothie's curves. For the dress, I opted for a top with a puffed sleeve and added space for the smoothie's arms.
Designing the Smoothie's Dress and Hairdo
To make the smoothie's hairdo unique, I decided to use fruits from the smoothie itself as inspiration. I drew the fruits poking out of the hair, adding pops of color and a playful touch. I opted against adding a straw coming out of the smoothie's head, as it felt a bit creepy. Instead, I gave the smoothie a little handbag, which complemented her prom date, the sandwich.
Adding Final Touches: Erasing and Lining
Once I had completed the initial sketches, it was time to clean up the drawing. I used a kneaded eraser to lightly erase the characters, ensuring that the lines were light enough to blend with the colored liners. Speaking of liners, instead of using traditional black liners, I decided to experiment with colorful liners to soften the line work.
Coloring In the Characters with Copic Markers
Finally, it was time to color in the characters using Copic markers. Copic markers are well-known for their blending capabilities and non-streaky application. I wanted to achieve a seamless blend between colors for certain elements, while also creating texture in others. For example, I aimed for a smooth blend on the sandwich's cheese but a textured effect on the lettuce.
Conclusion
In conclusion, using a random art generator provided me with a creative challenge and pushed me to explore new subject matter for my artwork. Drawing my smoothie and Subway sandwich as prom dates was a fun and whimsical project. By adding colorful details and giving each food item a unique personality, I was able to create an illustration that was both amusing and visually appealing. Whether you're using a random art generator or coming up with your own ideas, it's important to embrace creativity and let your imagination run wild.
