How to Curve Text in Procreate: A Step-by-Step Guide

Hello, fellow artists! Welcome to today's Procreate tutorial where I'll be showing you three different methods to curve text in Procreate. Curving text can add a fantastic touch to your digital illustrations and designs. So, let's dive right in and learn how to do it in Procreate.

Method 1: Curving Text Using Nodes

2.1 Adding Text in Procreate

To start curving text in Procreate, we first need to add our desired text. Tap on the "Actions" menu at the top, click on "ADD," and then choose "Add Text." A small menu will appear at the bottom of the screen. Tap on the keyboard icon to access the text input.

2.2 Adjusting Text Nodes

Once you've typed your text, you'll notice two blue dots on both sides of the text. These nodes can be used to manipulate the text placement on a single line. Simply drag these nodes to adjust the text accordingly.

2.3 Changing Text Font and Style

If you want to change the font and style of your text, go back to the "Actions" menu and select the text layer. Tap on the "Transform" tool, then click on the "Fonts" option. Choose your desired font and style, and you can also adjust the letter spacing (kerning).

Method 2: Curving Text Using Grid and Arc

3.1 Enabling Drawing Guide and Adjusting Grid Size

To create curved text using a grid and an arc shape, we need to enable the drawing guide. Tap on "Actions," go to the "Canvas" tab, and toggle on the "Drawing Guide" option. Underneath, click on "Edit Drawing Guide." Adjust the grid size to your preference.

3.2 Drawing an Arc Shape

Using the grid as a guide, draw an arc shape or any other shape that you want your text to follow. If you make a mistake, you can use the "Edit Shape" button to adjust and reshape the arc until you're satisfied with its appearance.

3.3 Placing Text on Arc

After drawing the shape, go back to the text layer and click on the "Transform" tool. Drag the text until it sits on top of the arc shape. Use the nodes around the text and the guidelines as a reference to find the center of the text accurately.

Method 3: Curving Text Using Mesh Warp

4.1 Enabling Advanced Mesh

To create more complex curved text, we can enable the advanced mesh. Tap on the "Advanced Mesh" option located at the bottom left of the menu. This will display additional nodes around the text, allowing for more precise adjustments.

4.2 Dragging Text Along the Arc

Once the advanced mesh is activated, use the nodes to drag the text along the desired arc. Any part of the mesh, even without a node, can be moved to modify the text's appearance. Play around with the mesh until you achieve the desired curvature.
