Upgrading the Van Setup for Efficient Detailing

Hey, everyone! Dave here from Dave's Auto Detail. I'm back with another video to give you guys an update on our van setup. It's been incredible to see the response and views on our previous van setup video, so today, I want to show you the upgrades we've made to the van. As a detailer, first impressions are everything, and a well-organized and efficient van setup is crucial. So, let's dive right into it!

Upgrades to the Van

Diamond Plated Door Panels

One of the essential upgrades we've made to the van is installing diamond plated door panels. We received these panels from First Choice Supplies in Southern California, and they have truly elevated the appearance of our van. As soon as you open the doors, the diamond plate design exudes professionalism and quality. It's a small detail that leaves a lasting impression on our clients.

Bottle Holders and Product Organization

To enhance efficiency, we added bottle holders for our owner's Pride products. These holders, also provided by First Choice, keep our products organized and easily accessible. With everything in its place, we can quickly grab the necessary items without fumbling inside the van. These bottle holders are a game-changer for any detailer, whether you have diamond plate or not.

Quick Disconnect for Foam Cannons

Another significant update we've made is the addition of a quick disconnect for our foam cannons. This simple yet effective feature allows us to effortlessly connect and disconnect our foam cannons, saving us time and effort during the setup process. It's the little things like this that make a big difference in our workflow.

Maxshine Brush Holder

To keep our brushes neatly stored and easy to access, we installed a Maxshine brush holder on the top of our van. This holder provides a secure spot for our brushes, ensuring they're always within arm's reach when we need them. It's a small but practical addition that adds convenience to our detailing process.

Cox Rail 50-Foot Hose

Heavy Duty Extension Hose

One of the most significant upgrades we've made to our van setup is the installation of a Cox Rail 50-foot hose. This heavy-duty extension hose allows us to reach even the furthest corners of a vehicle without any restrictions. Its length and durability make our detailing process much smoother and more efficient.

Platform for Equipment Setup

Affordable DIY Option

While there are numerous expensive setups available, we wanted to create a cost-effective solution that doesn't compromise on functionality. We opted for a DIY platform, which turned out to be perfect for our needs. Using a piece of plywood coated with heavy-duty paint and a crossbar for stability, we created a reliable platform to hold our equipment securely.

Cox Reel and Rigid Vacuum

On the platform, we have mounted a Cox reel, which has become our best friend during detailing jobs. This retractable reel allows us to effortlessly pull out and wind back the hose, eliminating any tangling or hassle. Additionally, we have a 50-foot hose connected to a rigid vacuum for powerful and efficient cleaning.

Tie Down for Secure Transportation

We understand the importance of securing our equipment during transportation, so we have implemented a reliable tie-down system. While it may not be the most glamorous aspect of our setup, it ensures that everything stays in place and arrives safely at our clients' locations. Safety and professionalism go hand in hand, even during transit.

Side of the Van Setup

Cabinets for Storage

Moving to the side of the van, we have added cabinets for additional storage space. While these cabinets may not be the most pristine or expensive, they serve their purpose effectively. We painted them to improve their appearance, and from a distance, they look quite impressive. Remember, you don't always have to spend a fortune to achieve functionality and aesthetics.

Husky Compressor

To meet our air supply needs, we invested in a Husky compressor. This reliable compressor, priced at around $199, has exceeded our expectations. We highly recommend buying the extended warranty, as it provides peace of mind should any issues arise. The compressor is connected to our reel, ensuring a continuous supply of compressed air when needed.

McCollum Steamer and Pump Sprayers

In terms of equipment, we have a McCollum steamer, which has proven to be an invaluable asset. Its compact design and efficiency make it the perfect tool for tackling tough detailing tasks. Additionally, we keep a few pump sprayers at hand for various applications. These sprayers are practical and reliable for applying cleaning solutions and other products.

Merchandise Storage

As detailers, we also sell merchandise, so we have designated space in our van to store and display our products. Keeping everything organized and presentable is essential to maintaining a professional image. We have shirts and other items neatly arranged for easy access and showcasing. It's an excellent way to promote our brand and generate additional revenue.

Portable Stool

Last but not least, we always carry a trusty portable stool. This simple piece of equipment allows us to have a comfortable seat whenever needed, whether it's for a quick break or reaching those difficult-to-access areas on larger vehicles. It's a small addition that adds comfort and convenience to our detailing process.

Cost-Effective and Efficient Setup

Our van setup may not be the flashiest or most extravagant, but it gets the job done efficiently and cost-effectively. It's essential to understand that you don't need top-of-the-line equipment to deliver top-notch results. By focusing on functionality, organization, and workflow optimization, you can achieve success even on a budget. Don't compare yourself to industry giants; instead, make the most of what you have and prioritize efficiency.

Expansion with a Second Van

Ford Transit 150 Low Roof

Exciting news! We recently purchased a 2020 Ford Transit 150 low roof as our second van. This significant expansion is a testament to the growth of our business. We're planning to replicate the same setup we have in our current van for maximum efficiency. We'll be reaching out to our friends at First Choice for potential diamond plating and other upgrades to match our existing van.

Importance of Quality Van Wrap

Just like our current van, we're going to invest in an Avery wrap for the new one. Quality is crucial when it comes to van wraps, as cheaper options can lead to disappointment and costly replacements down the line. Avery wraps are known for their durability, self-healing properties, and color-fastness. We want our branding to remain vibrant and eye-catching, regardless of the weather conditions or prolonged exposure to sunlight.

In conclusion, our van setup has undergone several upgrades to optimize efficiency and create a professional impression. From diamond-plated door panels and organized bottle holders to practical additions like quick disconnects and brush holders, each enhancement contributes to a smoother and more streamlined detailing process. Additionally, our side setup, with cabinets, a reliable compressor, and essential equipment, ensures we have everything we need on the go. Despite being cost-effective, our van setup doesn't compromise on quality or functionality. We're excited to expand our business with a second van, continuing our commitment to efficient detailing and exceptional service. Remember, it's not about having the most expensive equipment but utilizing what you have effectively. Stay tuned for more videos and updates on our journey.
