Data Collection Challenges
Collecting the right data set posed a significant challenge in the initial stages of developing Lyrical. We needed a dataset that included both lyrics and emotions. It wasn't easy to find such a comprehensive dataset, but we eventually discovered a suitable one on GitHub. This dataset consisted of emotions like tenderness, sadness, and tension associated with each song, providing a solid foundation for Lyrical. We also utilized the Muse dataset from Kaggle and the Genius API to enhance the emotional range with options like euphoria and cheerfulness.
Training the Model
To train our model effectively, we used the GPT Neo model. With the user-provided title and emotion, the model generates song lyrics based on the given inputs. Lyrical AI also features an adjustable temperature setting, enabling users to control the level of randomness in the output. Our model relies on a vast library of song lyrics sourced from Genius using their API.
Obstacles Faced During the Project
While developing Lyrical, we encountered various challenges. One major hurdle was the scarcity of suitable datasets that combined lyrics and emotions. Thanks to the efforts of our team members Jay and Sam, we were able to create an API scrapper to access the necessary data. Additionally, website design proved to be unfamiliar territory for our team, which led to some delays. However, our perseverance paid off as we successfully overcame these obstacles.
