Introduction

Welcome to this tutorial series on how to utilize the free API to create an Android application for displaying cat breed information. In this video, we will be focusing on receiving intent data and displaying it in our UI.

Receiving Intent Data

To start off, we need to receive the intent data that is passed from the main activity. The getIntent() method will allow us to do this. Once we have the data, we can reference it in our code.

Setting the Cat Name

One of the first things we want to display in our UI is the cat's name. To do this, we can use the setText() method and pass in the received data using the getStringExtra() method. Make sure to use the same key that was provided in the main activity.

Setting the Description

In addition to the cat's name, we also want to display its description. We can achieve this by using the setText() method again and extracting the data from the intent using the getStringExtra() method. Make sure to use the correct key that corresponds to the description data.

Setting the Temperament

Another important piece of information we want to display is the cat's temperament. Similar to the previous steps, we can set the temperament text by using the setText() method and extracting the data from the intent using the getStringExtra() method. Again, make sure to use the appropriate key.

Setting the Image

To complete the UI, we need to display an image of the cat. We can use the Picasso library to load the image from the URL provided in the intent. By using the load() method and passing in the image URL, we can set the image into the designated ImageView.

Opening URLs in Browser

In order to provide more information to the user, we have added buttons for Wikipedia and additional information. When the user clicks on these buttons, we want to open the corresponding URLs in the browser. By utilizing a click listener, we can create a new intent with the URL data and use the appropriate key to open the browser.

Displaying Cat Breed Information

Now that we have implemented all the necessary functionalities, we should be able to display all the cat breed information whenever we receive a cat with the breed information. However, it is important to handle cases where the breed information is not available. If you encounter any bugs or issues, please let us know in the comments or join our Facebook group for assistance. We will make sure to update the application accordingly.

Bug Reports and Updates

If you encounter any bugs or issues while using the application, please report them to us. We value your feedback and are committed to improving the user experience. We will address any reported bugs and provide updates to the application on our GitHub repository.

Conclusion

In conclusion, this tutorial series has provided you with knowledge on how to utilize the free API to create an Android application for displaying cat breed information. We hope you have learned something new and have enjoyed this tutorial. Thank you for watching.
